ODI at Peshawer on 6/02/06
by Akshaykumar Jain on Feb 07, 2006 10:59 AM

Time and again it has been proved that captaincy is a measure factor when it comes to winning a match. In that sense i strongly feel that Ganguly has no match in Indian or even any other side in the wourld of cricket.(barring an exception of Australia's performances)It was quite disheartening to see that in ODI at Peshawer, Dravid continued bowling with Irfan Pathan who should have tried few overs in the end that could have improved Indias chances to win the game. I think Ganguly has unnecessorily been made scapegoat and his captaincy tenure was not rightly judged by the so called selectors of Indian cricket. As long as a captain wins max. games for India- his contribution should be viewed as a perfactionist captain rather than his individual performance where also, he has not failed so miserably when compared to his recent/past counterparts. It is rediculous that the whole system functions at the behest of wrong signals from foreign coaches which is proving to be detrimentle to indian team in general and players like Ganguly in particular.
I hope country would pay heed to such suggestions and actions are taken to set the things right or petty polytics would ruin the spirit of game.

Too exaggerated
by Mani on Feb 07, 2006 10:57 AM

I am wondering if such strong comments came when India won against Pakistan in the home series at Pak last year? Or just because India managed to win it meant that everything is fine! By the way Sehwag's 309 was one of the imperfect innings. Look at the number of lives he got during that. Compare that with Laxman's 280. Well i am big fan of Sehwag, no matter what. But my point is during adversity every one comments about everything. Doesnt this all seem ridiculous. Some of your comments were bang on target and some just too cliched.

Cheers!
Mani

Well said Arvind Lavakare!
by Raj on Feb 07, 2006 10:55 AM

Its difficult situation when the auther writes the facts and readers respond to him with nasty remarks. Many readers feel that this was just one loss at Karachi! This one loss had cost us the series, which they probably fail to understand.

I know its easy to write an analysis article then to perform in the middle. But both are bread and butter for the respective people. This is well said and written analysis of the facts which millions have watched on the TV sets. Why can't our cricketers pull together all their strengths and dedicatedly perform to the expectations in the crucial matches when this game of cricket is their bread and butter? I agree with Arvind and let me tell you that I will not apply for any visa for Habajan because he blames the balls used in foreign soil. What is needed by Irfan is forget his batting while bowling and play like a bowler not a batsman or an all rounder.

And guys please stop blaming Chappel because he is doing what is best for the team!

Who is Aravind?
by praveen on Feb 07, 2006 10:47 AM

Hi Aravind,

Who is this guy to teach Kumble the nuances of gripping the cricket ball? Kumble has taken 480 odd wickets in Test cricket which is no mean achievement. Give him his due mate and stop whining that he is not a turner of the cricket ball. He had not been, is not, and will not turn the ball just because some Tom, Dick, and aravind comment on that issue.
Coming to the Kaneria-Kumble comparison issue; Kaneria never bowled in the Ist innings and took two tail wickets in the 2nd innings, which do not really amount to a victory. Stop being a vulture and if possible, write constructively to improve the Indian team's cause.

This is ridiculous.

We Indians are great critics. We dont even give our team some time to come together, build confidence and perform. Even if they want to, our media tries to put in a lot of pressure which in no way is going to improve the team's performance. After reading this, one thing surprised me a lot. Comparing Kumble with Kaneria. How can one do that???....Both of them are totally different and have their own style of attacking the batsmen. Morover, Kaneria is a rookie and comparing him with a legend like Kumble is absolutely ridiculous.
The way the author says that Indian cricket is back to square one is baseless. You just cant judge the team's capabilities by one Test match and that too an away match.
Coming to Pathan, the point has been made clear that when Pathan holds the ball the way he did in the first two matches, he can pitch it wherever he wants. It will definitely reduce the pace but he has been able to take wickets that way recently. Trying out new things like these should not be discouraged. Instead, try to suggest alternate methods of improving his performance.

Dear fellow indian BCCI officials,

Why can't u read and digest the contents placed in this article. I feel it quite lucid and the clues given by the author are good enough(abt players weaknessessss)to fetch atleast a world cup. Do try to understand betweenlines or just stop our so called BCCI/Indian teams visit countries like pak,aus for atleast a whole new team is found.

Indian Cricket

The points raised are relevant and important. But the lords of Cricket India are always reluctant to do any real or worthwhile soul searching. Now, look at how the team made a mess of the ODI at Peshawar yesterday (6th Feb 2006)! By promoting the two batsmen capable of big hitting, Irfan and Dhoni, quite unnecessarily to no.3 and 4 and thereby making batsmen like Dravid and Kaif to bat down the order at the most crucial time, Team India lost a chance of posting a total in the vicinity of 350 and this cost them the match - not their bowling failure (which was quite understandable -what with the size of the ground and the nature of the pitch combined with the current form of Pakistan batsmen down to no.7) Will the coach who gets a fat pay cheque ever be made accountable for fancying and carrying out such silly experimentation? Will the mercurial captain Dravid tell the coach that enough is enough at least from the Second ODI?
