Cricket or any sport's performance levels in India is truly the reflection of our culture or system as a whole. The columns written and TV shows create sensation for commercial purposes rather than bringing about any change in our system. Why to blame Dravid, Sachin, Greig or Ganguly?

The article on cricket vividly and comprehensively describes the state of affairs today but fails to analyse the causes.Mainly they are:
1. Complete commercialisation by plitico-businessmen nexus purely for name,fame and wealth including the past and present players;
2. Total lack of professionalism in administration,Training, conduct, promotion of the sport, selection process, attitude of the players which lacks pride and self respect and above all a lack of WILL and Determination to win.
This is due to the excessive security,over-indulgence and creation of a star/super star system.Pak and other top countries produce cricket players to win and not stars to earn money. That is the main difference between us and all the other cricket playing nations who beat us with impunity including even Bangladesh.Unless we thorough professinalise the whole system with the primary objective of not only promoting the sport but also producing not one but 2/3 world class teams and Word Beaters we would continue to face disgraceful defeats like in Karachi and elsewere.

Stupid column
by Tarun on Feb 07, 2006 10:07 AM

Arvind's comments are totally outrageous and misplaced. It so seems that the author has wisely ignored the good all round performance of the Pakistan team.

As for the ineffectiveness of our spinners, I think it can be safely attributed to the docile nature of the pitches and the attacking nature of batsmanship. Nothing more.

Please note that the scoreline might as well have been 3-0 to Pakistan considering how easy it would have been for the team to have collapsed against mammoth first innings totals.

Indian Cricketers have really played well in this Pakistan tour. The have given a good fight to Pakistan. All the matches played were very tough. Also Saurav Ganguly should have been there in one dayers. He should have given a chance to perform in this batsman friendly wicket. This was an excellent opportunity for him to get back to his form and getting the confidence going. But i am really afraid of the selectors who does not respect the good batsman like Saurav Ganguly. (Second highest run scorer in ODIs)

view on the cricket column
by S.Kathirvel on Feb 07, 2006 10:02 AM

The media is playing cricket with paper and pen. It is very harsh to comment on each and evey performance as if the players and coach have brought the game to such low levels. The typical indian attitude to keep condemning ourselves and appreciate the neighbour.

Stop Criticising
by Kalpesh on Feb 07, 2006 09:58 AM

I have never seen anyone criticising the cricket team when it was winning .. so why criticise when loosing ?
I think more then the skills .. Indian team lacks the mental strength and determination & the junoon which the Pak or Australian teams have. Great players like Steve Waugh , Ponting come up with a performance when team needs .... and they do it consistently ...not flukes. We lack these kinda performers

immature

Hi,
A article pretty immature in thought. Although suggestions regarding harbhajan going to pras or karthik to bedi are warranted, Kumble's grip's criticism is pretty unwarranted. Kumble is a different bowler period. If he cant spin the ball and his accuracy is his strength let it be so, it is absolutely ridiculous comparing him with kaneria.
Regarding thepacers, You are right when we say zaheer has lost the yorker buthe just returned. Agarkar is somebody who has never been used properly

So pls rather than being critical and getting technical it makes more sense to appreciate we lost to a better team and we have our own strengths
