Excluding this 101, Ganguly's last 16 innings when he batted are as follows:
37 3rd Test v Aus in Aus 2003/04 at Melbourne
73 Same Test
16 4th Test v Aus in Aus 2003/04 at Sydney
DNB Same Test
77 3rd Test v Pak in Pak 2003/04 at Rawalpindi
45 1st Test v Aus in Ind 2004/05 at Bangalore
5 Same Test
9 2nd Test v Aus in Ind 2004/05 at Chennai
DNB Same Test
57 1st Test v SA in Ind 2004/05 at Kanpur
40 2nd Test v SA in Ind 2004/05 at Kolkata
DNB Same Test
71 1st Test v BD in BD 2004/05 at Dhaka
88 2nd Test v BD in BD 2004/05 at Chittagong
21 1st Test v Pak in Ind 2004/05 at Chandigarh
DNB Same Test
12 2nd Test v Pak in Ind 2004/05 at Kolkata
12 Same Test
1 3rd Test v Pak in Ind 2004/05 at Bangalore
2 Same Test
The above Statistics are from a website.
The grand total is 566. 566/16=35.375. Since, Ganguly is DI DADA, I donot want to insult him by including his scores against Bangladesh: 88&71. So, it is 566-159=407. 407/14=29.071. Looks like DI DADA never heard of that website and so quite rightly he doesn't know THE FACTS. Did any dude out there said he is a LIAR? Wrong! He is IGNORANT as well!!:-(

Ganguly Should Step Down
by Vamsi on Sep 17, 2005 12:45 AM

Ganguly shouldnot be elated after scoring a century against a lowly Zimbabwe. That doesnot make him any better. Remember he scored a century against Kenya in the world cup. A captain should lead from the front at the time of crisis. I guess he never did that. I think at best he can be a non playing captain.

Ganguly should go!
by Tushar on Sep 16, 2005 11:56 PM

No point in him criticising anyone who asked him to step down, as it was obviously done in the interest of the team. 1000 runs in 16 tests is an average of 62 per test (or 32 per innings assuming all matches went to two innings), definately nothing to scream from the rooftops about.

captancy should be decided only after picking up the team. And it should be given to the most consistent player who is able to lead the team.

It's your frustration Greg Chappel that is telling
by A. MUKHOPADHYAY on Sep 16, 2005 10:27 PM

Every body was talking about Ganguly's head. What Greg Chappel has achieved? With Dravid as captain or with Ganguly as captain. He can not even improve the fielding of the team. Some body rightly said that best players do not make best coaches. This new coach will undo whatever is achieved during John Right't tenure. It's his frustration that is telling. How can he ask to step down a captain whom board has chosen as captain for a short tour. If he fails he will be removed automatically. You do your job for which you are chosen. Don't try to act as selector. Otherwise you may also be asked to step down.

this should have been done long time back
by wildcat on Sep 16, 2005 09:08 PM

Hey dada,

I was once a big fan of yours but I am not now.U were a great player till 2002. When u r not able to perform why dont u quit. Indidan cricket had enough of ur failures. U were and are a good captain. But we want u to perform with the bat too.

Why this has to happen to Indian cricket always. We will be blessed with a great cricketer (who gets into the team after a lot of struggle). After a period he is no more than an ordinary. He realises that but doesnt quit and hence prevents a chance to be given to emerging players. We have seen many cricketers like that who wont retire or who wont just give up. Ganguly has become one of those now.

Its high time he should be kicked out of the team. Sorry dada for my words. But there is no other go. Either u give up with dignity or face the music. I remember u once said about ageing Azharuddin under ur captaincy, that the team needs fresh blood who can score 100's and not 40's or 50's as Azhar does. I thought u had perfect mindset and India is going to have a great future. Now, I feel pity that u just cant realise that for urself.

It is out of sheer frustation I am writing such a big message. Leave dada.. just leave..

Ganguly's Issue
by Ram on Sep 16, 2005 09:00 PM

The issue is...If he is asked to step down now - By whoever it is - why he is there in the first place....put in by selectors...

Why he is being asked to step down.... On what criterai....Is it because of performance... If so...many of the guys can be asked to get out of the team....

I donot think it is fair to select him ...and suggest he be stepped down...on the eve of a match....
