nothing was wrong
by kumar saurabh on Sep 16, 2005 06:37 AM

if it was told to the captain to step down on the eve before the first test...i think it was wrong..and after this inning ganguly proved nothing...as far as past record is concerned there is no doubt about his glorious carrer only in one day but in the test ganguly was never ever the player to whom indian selectors take in under 11..this is not the fault of ganguly but it simply reveals the curruption in our selection board who always want from vvs laxman to prove his capability as a test player and ask ganguly through the coach to step down before the test to whom they selected for the whole tour unanimously after windrawing captiancy from the most eligible player of indian cricket...and these people hope that team india will win the next world cup....but at end ..being an indian my best wishes r always with dada

he has to go
by danny on Sep 16, 2005 03:19 AM

Too long has Ganguly dwelt on his past record. It is time he willingly resigns as Captain of the team and allows Dravid or Kaif to take over.He may get kicked out uncereominiosly otherwise. A Century against Zimbabwe is no big deal. Try sending him to Bangladesh, he might score a Century there too.

Indian Team!
by beautiful_mind on Sep 16, 2005 03:18 AM

Nowadays I really don't care about what's going on with Indian Cricket. This ignorance is not only because the Indian Team is performing badly, but also because of the non-aggressive selection committee. If I look at the current progress of the Indian Team I will say they have no chance in any series with any big Teams in near future (unless we do some drastic changes). Just look at England, Aussie, SL, NZ etc.
Following are my suggestions which may sound crazy but I thing they will provide long term solution instead of patching current issues,
1. Remove Ganguly from the Team. This might sound little harsh but that's going to help in future.
2. We don't have a right leader in the team so make Sachin as a captain till next world cup and simultaneously groom Kaif or Sehwag etc. for captains role so that they can take over once Sachin is out. I am sure team will be a nice unit under Sachin and they will play well.
3. Retire VVS Laxman from one day cricket, never ever think of Ajit Agarkar in future and bring in some fresh talent in terms of youngsters.
4. Concentrate on physical fitness as well as mental toughness of the team
5. Use secondary team against ZIM, BD, KENYA.
I'll work!

Wake up Dada
by Satyabrata Das on Sep 16, 2005 02:40 AM

Dear Saurav Da,

Whose sympathy are you trying win by disclosing such internal team matters to the press and public. If you still think the Indian public wants you at the helm, then wake up and if possible remind yourself of the crowd reactions you got in the recent Bangalore Test against Pakistan. The fame you had earned for your leadership skills, you yourself are spoling it by continuing to play for India and blocking the way of emerging youngsters. You know that BCCI does not have the courage to take steps like discarding you, so you are just taking benefit of that. Look what England selectors did by dumping the ageing Graham Thorpe and winning the Ashes. So, your batting display against Shane Bond's bowling should convince you that you are past your glory days and you are no more the God of the off side. So, if you want to say good-bye to international cricket with any dignity left, then this is the perfect time. Learn from Nasser Hussain and act fast. You are just spoiling the fighting spirit and unity of Indian cricket, which you yourself had brought by your unquestionable leadership skills. But wake up Dada, everybody has a time and your time is over.

what we suspected would happen, has
by Dr. S.S. Bakshi on Sep 16, 2005 02:20 AM

if ganguly thinks his slow painstaking century against the pedestrian attack of zimbabwe is enough to atone for his past sins he is living in a fools paradise. we want to see him doing the same against australia, pakistan or england. he should be ashamed of crowing over a century against a college level attack..shame. better retire when you are still remembered for your glorious past rather than being kicked out by public protest

Ganguly's foolish act
by Sudhir on Sep 16, 2005 02:03 AM

Hi All,

Mr S. Ganguly may have been the most successful captain of Indian Cricket, but at the same time I have never seen such a selfish person ever before.Ganguly who scored Thursday's century from 262 balls after a near six-hour stay at the crease against an inexperienced attack should understand that he is a spent force. He needs to take rest gracefully. This century may mean a lot to him as he had not performed well recently and was under a lot of pressure. but one young guy will take much les time to proe him. he has not preformed since 2003. but he still says only abt him and his achievements to the media. Every dog has a good time and he should learn that his time is over. But he is saying that he was forced to step down. If I would hav been the bcci president, i could have thrown him out much earlier. He shold give others a chance to prove them.

Thats Correct
by Girinath Managari on Sep 16, 2005 01:36 AM

Yes It is correct who ever had told him to step down did the right thing and Ganguly should step down...what is he trying to say now?? what has he scored in two years...? a mere Century and that too against Minnows Zimbabwe.... Thats shame...before respect for him turns into angry and people start hating him he should step down in a respectable way.

Ganguly asked to step down
by bodaskhan on Sep 16, 2005 01:18 AM

If it was Greg Chapell who said so then Kudos to him. Only he has the guts to tell it like it is. It was horrible seeing the indian team fielding on day 1. They looked like zombies on the field and they were just going thru the motions. Is it not the captain that has to pep up his troops when they are down? Nothing like that happened here. Put Dravid in the driver's seat for a longer term and given him a chance to prove his worth. He will probably turn out to be even better than the best Indian captain.

ganguly should go... its time he graciously step down
by satheesh on Sep 16, 2005 12:39 AM

Its time, Ganguly step down from the captaincy and stop boasting about his previous records and do something with the bat. The earlier he realises that, there are better cricketers than him, who is unable to play because of his place in the team. He is become a unbearable burden for the Indian Cricket Team. He better realise it and leave by his own accord now.
