Contrast this with football clubs
by Dhan on Jan 03, 2005 10:45 PM

Each premiership club pledged £50000, bringing the total to £1m from 20 clubs. This is in addition to footballers individual contributions and other charity raised from the public on match days. This gesture from the clubs came almost immediately in the aftermath of the tragedy. Auctioning torn undies and making the public to pay for charity in the name of a cricketer is alas the most we can expect from BCCI and its boys. And once the aid work is done, some of them will for sure visit the affected areas and sign autographs smiling into the camera!

Donation from Indian celebrities
by Umang on Jan 03, 2005 09:13 PM

The problem of sharing is not limited to just the cricket players. It is with all the celebrities. I have not heard anything from the Indian film actors who make lot more money than the cricketers. Where are they when their fans are facing such a loss? Why no one from either Bollywood or the regional film worlds have said a word about giving anything to help? This shows how greedy these people are. that's it.

Why these writers are behind the cricketers?
by Kiran on Jan 03, 2005 08:28 PM  | Hide replies

This writer ( and a few others from their tribe)seems to put down our cricketers everytime.
Just because these cricketers do not not broadcast their ( like bollywod stars & netas) contributions to humanitarian causes, doe snot mean that the players are not doing anything. Does these writer know what Kumble & Dravid is doing for children in Spastics Society or other origanisations in Bangalore? Does he /she or anyone else what Sachin is doing in Mumbai.
Our players know what is better for them and how the affected people needs help. Just big mouthing will not do Mr.Writer.
Would you let us readers know what you have done for these victims.
I agree BCCI is one of the last to respond. But for that you cannot hold the players responsible.
Why are you not asking the MLAs & MPS to contribute more.Even they earn more than the players. You will not do it because you will need their protection.

Shame on you & your tribe.

I fully agree with Kiran. People like Kumble, Sachin and Dravid are doing a lot for the society. I have followed them closely over the years.

Indian cricketers dialemma
by Vignesh on Jan 03, 2005 08:21 PM

We have again started talking about how our cricketers must morally react to situation bcos we know how much they earn. First of all the Indian team could not announce any aid on hearing the incident bcos,

1. They did not know how much they have to contribute. If they contribute less the media will be up in arms.

2. There were a lot of young cricketers in the team who were for the first time making money so it becomes difficult for the management to ask them to contribute a major share of their earning and it would look ackward if 80% of the money is paid by the senior cricketers.

3. We always think that any news that is publicized like Australia contributing 14,000$ is the major contribution. Do we have any idea how much our senior cricketers would have given personnaly to the relief fund. They do not want to publicize it and might have made a large quiet contribution. And if the Aus players contributed 30,000$ the indian board matched it with 250000 10 times more than them.

Instead of demanding publicly judging what our cricketers must do we must appreciate what they are doing and without the facts as to how much they have contributed it is useless to chide them.

Selfish Cricketers

"Sachin Tendulkar wont pay for college neither will he help you find a freakin job...get a life and shut down that idiot box".
Those words from my Dad still ring resoundingly after ten years. The analogy holds good here too..we dont need a Sourav Ganguly to come forward and help our countrymen. Charity begins at home and If each of us makes a genuine effort we dont need these guys who own 50 cars /feraris and cant look beyond their own ends. I am still a student here in the US but that did'nt stop me from donating half of my meagre monthly pay check. I have finally come to a realisation that at least this time ,Dad was right.

I am a middle class man and for this destuction i am giving my a one day salary for this but our cricket team is not contributing anything according there income they earn 50 times more than my salary from match fee and 80 times more from advetisment but they are not contributing anything comparing to there income this is shamefull for our whole cricket players.
Its shamefull for those cricketers who were collecting money from auction or charity shows instead of contributing money from there income.

I really hate such kinds of articles which are more preachy than comming to the point.
Asking BCCI to be the first/last or 100th what ever is so silly.
As an organisation what ever it is required to do on volunteer basis if it does than fine, plz dont force it.
The reasons is.
Whats the gurantee that the money donated is not pocketed by the middle men.

What is the gurantee that the government will actually use the amount to fund the relief measures and not to divert to its party fund.

So forcing people to donate and then unearthing a scame would bring more shame to the bcci than being the last or the second to help the people.
So You the writer plz do think twice before u put up u r article on net.
This is disgusting to read.
