why r they in the team??
by kavan on Oct 29, 2004 08:58 PM

just look at the scorecards of the three tests...who have scored runs???? Patel, Kaif, Agarkar, Kumble, Harbhajan, Zaheer....Except for Sehwag, none of the top 5 batsmen have made a respectable score...still they need to be in the team as they have scored well in past....THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AUSTRALIAN AND INDIAN TEAM. The dont care about records of waughs and lehmanns and bevans...if you dont perform you are gone...
Single series failure like that of Dravid is acceptable...even Sachin can make an excuse that he is returning from an injury..acceptable??..may be..but what about Laxman, Yuvraj, Ganguly?? Why the heck they are still kept in the team even if they are not performing...Where is BADANI?? he performed well last year..atleast he scored more than the 2s and 3s these guys are scoring...

Re: Why o why does it happen so often???
by arnab on Oct 29, 2004 08:20 PM

The once mighty Indian empire of cricket has crumbled at the feet of the "Oz"ies and in what fashion!!Since they hit their purple patch in 2003, Indians have been resting on their laurels since and after the 3 month break, it seems that they wont simply come out of their shells!!!after the Asia cup, ICC trophy debacle when it seemed that things couldnt get any worse, the Aussies decided to get on the India loot-o bandwagon!!!
All the three test matches, it was always the Aussies who were in the limelight (tho' many would argue about the outcome of the Chennai test)! The Indians looked out of sorts.. Dravid's "Wall" had crumbled, Aussies found VVS a very delectable target,Viru was mercurial,Sachin was a shadow of his former self as was Ganguly...it seemed that the tailenders had more character than the famed and feared top -order!!Wat happened?was it the excess pouring of money and endorsements which had made the team soft and slobs??or was it a miserable patch which all of them have strangley hit all at one time???
Some serious rethinking has to be done and the BCCI should set aside its political bickerings and do something about the future of the team.

What Next ????????
by Pradeepta Panda on Oct 29, 2004 07:53 PM

The most important question comes to mind is what next ? Did the selectors still willing to buy the arguments that great Indian batting line up still one innings away from hitting form. Heads must roll! Should start right from the top. Nobody should be considered indispensable. First Sourav should be replaced as captain, as he is getting unfit quite regularly of recently and it donot auger well for the team. Let's give Kaif the captaincy for a year, no Rahul, Shewag etc. As for great Indian captains, if Azhar (with aid of crumbled pitches), Sourav (mostly aided by good team mates, to some extent his own) without ever captaining a Ranji team can be made Indian captain than why not a experienced guy do better than them. Than let Sachin take enough rest to be completely fit, no more one should declare himself fit. If phisio says he is fit take him or else dump him, no concession. Send Laxman back to Hyderbad. We need fit players who should be more atheletic in field. He is one of the biggest roadblock, poorest fielder and worse in running with only Sourav leading him. Get a new opener for Shewag, may be Gamvir (left-right combination) and few guys like Sriram.

Indian stars owe an apology to the public.
by Suresh on Oct 29, 2004 07:43 PM

I feel cheated by the indian batting stars. They have let us down for the upteenth time and we still worship them like gods.

The so called "Batting Stars" of india owe an apology to the cricket lovers of the country. Time again they let us down.

We dont expect them to win all the time. But at the same time we dont want them to go down without a fight. Are these stars really worth the grade they received during the contract time.
Dalmiya should probably ask them to pay double the amount they have recieved for a test match every time they fail without fight.
We, The Indian Public would rather prefer the national team going down fighting.. Please for god sake, drop parthiv , chopra and laxman.
Rest Dravid,Sourav ( The Wall seems to have a crack).
Get a fresh look at Das, Jaffer,Mongia, Rayudu, Karthick, Badani, Munaf Patel.
Hand over the captaincy to Kumble / Sachin.

I demand a public apology from the batting stars to the indian public.

India's defeat
by Srinivas on Oct 29, 2004 07:30 PM

It is very shame to hear that India lost with such a huge runs. They would have even try till the end of five, but no resistance. Our middle order batseman are failing again and again. On this issue, BCCI should take firm decisions even sacking some of the senior players and giving chance to young players. One should play the test match the way Aussies are playing, not like Indians who are playing like one day or even in fact half day match. One should take bold step to revive Indian team.

No one is above the team & national interest of the Indian Cricket Team
by Ronak on Oct 29, 2004 07:30 PM

I think it is time to look beyond greatness of a particular Cricketer or a statistically genius player.

Tendulkar, Dravid, Yuvraj, and above all Ganguly should be dropped and asked to play in First Class cricket to prove their form before coming into the National team to show such miserable form. Ganguly can have a remote conrol in his hand from the Pavilion if his captaincy will be missed so much. And as for Tendulkar, well its too bad that he had the TENNIS ELBOW, he can check the status of his form on lesser venues than a series of such prestige.

Dravid needs rest genuinely, and Yuvraj looks like a one match wonder, what with him being linked with so many Love Interests in personal life, does he have time to play cricket or does he think about who he has to meet next.

All said, new players need to come in and old retire. In-form players should be part of the team and not "Sure place in the teamers".

Also, is it a deliberate move on Australia's part to allow the tailenders to score, so that the selector make a wrong choice of selecting weak players, who Aussies get out at around 50. Just a thought.

Guys, time to have private teams, rather than BCCI B=Beurocratic.
