Indian team doesn't deserve any respect
by Vikas Aditya on Oct 29, 2004 10:59 AM

The way this team has been playing for such a long duration is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is the sympathetic attitude of team selectors & media. If a person is not performing why he can't be shown the door ? let him play in domestic cricket, get his form back then expect a place back in the national team. Why they keep playing & earning money which is in fact, the hard earned money of Tax Payers? Similarly the media, they make such heightened statements about individual performances, but it doesn't come back that hard when the performance goes abysmal.

It's high time to be performance oriented otherwise news lows will keep on recorded.

Bunch of thieves
by Dinakar Rayaprolu on Oct 29, 2004 10:59 AM

This Indian team presently playing against Australia must consider themselves as thieves. They simply follow the egoistic approach and put the pride and honour of the country and its 1 billion people at stake. These people are not at all applying their will and interest towards the game, but just counting the money on being in the side. The attitude is I am in the team, I got my money, why to take pains. For ascertaing their place they score once the minimum required to secure it. After that it is counting money only. When new comers frm Australia and lower order players of their team show some grit and professionalism, the so called "master blasters" and the senior players pocketing huge public money are simply forgetting their responsibility towards the society and country.
I suggest as rewards are being paid on good performance, there must be some punishment for failures also. Nobody is bigger than the game and 1 billion people.
Remove all the non-performing players and replace them with enthusiastic younger ones. They play atleast for some time before they also become "Seniors". Further the board represnting Indian cricket must be made answerable to parliament.

inconsistence pays
by pkb on Oct 29, 2004 10:58 AM

I agree with the author that out of forms player are long runs stating their previous records. The result is that the player is too expensive for india to take defear after defeat. Laxman is an example so is agarkar who has cemented his place without any matching winning performance for long so long that no one remembers when he made an inpact. Prathiv is joining the already big list. His keeping has allowed the aussie to pile up run but in return he is isn't scoring that many runs as he is giving away with poor keeping. Its real tragic that 35/2 is considered a good start given up openers by all the leading commentators. What now u can expect. Captain ganguly has taken his ample opportunity to each one to prove his mentle too far that now its reflecting on his captaincy stuff. Too many defeats will definately take its tolls on all other player like rahul dravid who now burden the frequent out of form of top order batsmen. Better to have a decent consistent player in the team than talented inconsistent player. Hope the selector interwin before the mumbai test so that we can atleast save some pride if any left.

laxman shoudl be removed from one dayers
by aateef on Oct 29, 2004 10:44 AM

ok,just leave it about the test matches. i know india cannot do anything in these test matches. just keep the same team for the fourth test and practice for the one dayers, because that is what th fans are looking for. laxman is a great batsmen, no doubt but their is no point in keeping him in teh one dayers. instead a good hittig batsmen can be brought in, becasue he is very slow. teh aussies tour and the pakistani tour succes was i think was just like a flook. this is real india, the performance you are seeing now. rotisurat. when one plays , every one plays good for their indiavidual records. but when one doesnt play no one takes responsibility.,.,.,.i am fed up.,.

Great Review !!!
by Nataraj on Oct 29, 2004 10:42 AM

That was really a good analysis about the present scenario, things can't go worse that this if so we have a better option we have better players waiting to be recruited...........to give a good fight we have better people than Tendulkar, Laxman , Agarkar.....etc.

It is time we rule with an iron hand and remove non- performing players, even if it is a Tendulkar or ganguly .........it is time some one does act. Is some one listening out there.

Hiprocracy in team management and caption is the reason
by kulasekaran on Oct 29, 2004 10:40 AM

Indian team have all the capabilites to win against any team. The problem we face now is the EGO problem and too much of off the field and on the field activities in the team. Like Australians do not bother of the track record of the individuals and rather bother about the present forms while selecting the team, Indians have to do the same. Say players like Rahul Dravid, Shawag, Laxman, Ganguly or even Sachin if they are not in form, their place in the team is assured and hence probably they are complacent which makes them not to thrive more for performance. Its not the mistake in their part rather in the part of team management. Also if one shines in one or two matches, immediately they will appear in handful of commercials. This again makes them to feel complacent. More than all these things, the Politics in the management is more than the team. See better Wicket keepers like Dinesh karthik are not given chance but Partiv patel inspite dropping lots of chances are given chance. Probably Dinesh could not influence his caption/management like partive. To conclude Every one of us should thank to the Team and Management for making INDIANS to loose interest in this much hyped GAME.

Indian dont deserve to win
by Dr.Manoj on Oct 29, 2004 10:32 AM

How long you are going to wait for form of Laxman, Yuvraj, Ganguly, Patel?? ofcoarse Akash Chopra (I dont count him as a batsman)!!!! Akash Chopra is playing for India since last one & half year without any significant inning. He makes 8-9 runs with 2-3 lives (2-3 catches always dropped.) Laxman is no more valuable aginst aussies also. Yuvraj is failing since last world cup final. Patel!!! what should I say about him? He should go & play a school cricket first as a WK. Lot of young talent like Dheeraj Jadhav, Vinayak mane, Gautam Ghambhir & Dinesh Kartik are waiting for the opportunity. But I think If the selection commitee is like this then there shoud not be any selection commitee. Say Ganguly bye bye now. We dont want captatin who depends on others for his captaincy. We can not waste a place of good batsman by only a captain who depends on others performance.
Its a high time to change the Indian team for forth test in Mumbai

Team Indian is now again Indian Team
by pijush on Oct 29, 2004 10:32 AM

I completely agree with the column. I agree we must give players chance to rectify there mistakes but not so many that it starts causing frustration.
Why Lakshman is in the team, why patel is still there? And why chopra is there? why they didn't called back dinesh and kartik? To keep the sprits high the team need to perform well and win also.
Do the Indian team again wating to see the public anguish which they saw during the world cup. I personally don't want to happen but it really hard to accept such perpormance.
I think it is better to say that the players play for BCCI rather than the country.
Drastic condition needs drasctic steps, which the team is feared to take. We tend to forget the past perpormance of the players just after a win. In the news papers i read shewag is back in form and all other praises. But he does't deserve it, had the australians fielded properly he would never have got those runs, true for others also. If u give so many lifes to a batsman he will score runs.
The captain and selection commette needs to work out plans and take steps to pull out the team from these state. I am a die hard supporter of India so can't see it loose like this.
