tri series final
by nishat on Nov 21, 2003 04:07 AM

india lost the final match within first 10 overs of its batting. they let the australians feel that they can defeat india by even scoring just 235. had the australians scored more than 300 than india would have lost the game by the same margin of about 40 runs. its the mental thing more than anything. the way sachin and sehwag started the innings clearly showed the negative attitude and the game was lost then and there. just i want to remind the finals of 99 world cup, how gilchrist demolished paki bowlers, even though they were chasing a meagre total. its not the target, its the mintal strength and attitude which india always falls short of.

Inconsistency

Great win for Aus. They are the best in the world. They prove it once more. They beat India in the world cup(fast & true) and here (slow turning). A great side can win on any condition. India deserve to lose the final after so many missed chances. It is not at all a shame to lose to Aus. Instead of finding excuses, we can learn from the Aus. Not only the players but the board, selectors, team management. Then only India can play consistently well. First and foremost India must end make-shift policy. Then there should be accountability.

Never make a mistage of dropping KAIF
by Meraj Ahmed on Nov 19, 2003 03:36 PM

So, Ashishji, you are writing on "Australia win tri series" Where Faisalji has gone?

He was arguing yesterday that Laxman should be in the team because he made those 281 runs 30 months ago against Australia. Now Laxman made his presence felt in the entire match. Dropping catches and then making a mess of batting.

Kaif would have been a much better option. In fact he ought to be an integral part of India's one day plan. His outstanding fielding lifts the spirit of the entire team. His running between the wicket forces even a slow mover to work for runs. He is agreat team man. How on earth you can remove Kaif from one day team. Nobody even talks of the poor form of Yuvraj but people like Faisal Shariff only find faults in Kaif.

Constant shuffling of his batting order has made life very difficult for him but he never complains. He is sent at no. 3, he plays good knock but in the very next match he is again sent at no. 7. why?

Untill and unless, we choose team honestly and give young legs and lungs better bigger share of play, we can never be a winning team. Politics has really marred our chances. we have world class players but a third class team.

Get rid of Laxman
by Vikram on Nov 19, 2003 03:20 PM

What is Laxman doing in the one day squad . How many chances shall we give this fellow ? He is a hopeless fielder and was the primary reason for India's loss . Even Deep Dasgupta will field better than him . Its abt time Ganguly sends him packing from the one day squad . Speaking of Ganguly ...without him the Indian batting line up was very fragile today . He would have held up one end in this slow and low conditions . Also Dravid cannot lift the morale of the Indian team .Anyway now its time to look forward to the Australian tour .

poor team selection
by bunu on Nov 19, 2003 01:40 PM

what can i say after seeing the selection of the team one can only pray the god. why did we exclude kaif. why not laxman. he made a 100 vrs aus and then there is not even a score of 40 is there. and to make the matter worst he missed 4 opportunities. it was the same selection that laid us down in cuttack.why aviskar salvi if u decided to opt out kaif why nt kumble when the pitch assisted the spinners. dravid aghain proved that he cant lead the team. b coz i think he is main person behind the selection so as the selectors we lost tye match b coz of laxmzn and the selectors. had kaif ben there it would have been a differnt matter. any way we cant hope any thing better from the selection squad.jokers r they.i dont understand why they did nt select kartik 4 the tour of aus. what a bowler he is luv him lovely guy guy with courage to bowl flighted deliveries.laxman shd only play tests. he is responsible 4 70 runs or so made by the aus.

Australia Won the match because of some reasons
by Panidhar Kumar. V on Nov 19, 2003 12:29 PM

One main Reason to won Austria is because of poor fielding by Indians...Mainly Laxman Fielded very very bad..He didn't bat well also.

I expected a lot from Yuvrav..but he once again failed to get runs and Sehwag is not consistent in this series at all..

Selvi also didn't bowl well...

The player in this series who impressed well is One and Only Sachin..

All the best to Indian Team for next series

Poor fielding cost the match
by Seetha Ram on Nov 19, 2003 12:29 PM

I think the pressure put on by the bowlers propped by stunning fielding of Aussies enabled them to win the cup.. even, they restricted Sachin with that tactic in the first 15 overs...

Exclusion of Kumble also made a lot of difference... Eventhough he's not a flamboyant batsman, he won't give his wicket easily unlike kartik, Bhajji...

Kaif was missed
by Meraj Ahmed on Nov 19, 2003 11:57 AM

So, on the final day Mr. Faisal Shariff wrote on rediff.com that India must play Laxman becasue he has made 281 in TEST against Australia on the same graound and should exclude Kaif because he is out of form!!!!! So, what do you Mr. Shariff now.

Laxman made his presence felt right from the word go by dropping no. of catches. Your companion on rediff.com Mr. Ashish writing about the defeat has written "The Indian fielding left a lot to be desired in this match and this was the first of seven chances the Aussies received. Chances were dropped left, right and center. Laxman was the main culprit."

Mr. Shariff, One day is different ball game. Fielding is the most crucial factor. By not playing Kaif, we ensured at least 30 extra runs to Australia.

Coming to the match, Badani who is again in the Indian team after innumerable failures in his earlier stint, played as if he is in a great hurry to finish the match on his own and catch the flight to Australia. Whereas, all he was to supposed to support "The Wall". Here again Kaif was missed. He is a solid defensive player who rotates the strike the best & He could've proved to be an ideal ally to Dravid in that situation.
