Too bad, instead of fiat paying duty on sachins car duty ,which he can very well pay himself ,fiat should give that amount to upcomming sports person who are not encoraged by govt atall
there are lot of players who deserve that money.
sachin does not need charity, he is taking the food from other players mouth who deaerve this money more then sachin who can very well effort to pay this money from his own pocket
Maybe this silences 90% of the so-called "I am a Sachin Tendulkar adorer but since I don't like him being wealthy so I want him to pay because it will help educate and lit the families of poor Indians", Of course the rest 10% will always find another criticism. One for example would be (which is very true) Well if they pay the customs duty then that becomes an income for Sachin for which he should now pay income tax and then gift tax, and "ofcourse he can afford it" so he should pay definitely else it would be very shameful of him. But what fiat has done here should be a very resounding slap in the face of us Indians and we should remember it for our lifetime. Here comes a MNC saying "We gave a good Indian, an Indian of whom most Indians WERE proud of a gift and that caused the rest of India to ask for 120% of the gift we gave. Let us give them the 120% too. Our culture of what we are proud of is really great. Next time we get a gift we should also ask the giver for Gift tax because that is something we Indians always pay tax right ? Because I see 1000s of people complaining over tax evasion.
