Foreign coaches

I agree with Faisal Shariff. John Wright did a fanatastic job with the Indian team and should be retained. Indian coaches want the job because of the money and to dispense favours on recommendation from powerful quarters, which will only undermine the quality of the team. They have their own business interests and are uncapable of putting the hard work required from a coach.

by pradeep on Apr 06, 2003 09:30 PM

I dont know why these ex cricketers are gunning for Wright . He has done a fantastic job and we should continue with him ,Le roux & Leipus.

I think all these guys are frustrated and jealous of Wright and what he has done with the Indian team

by Vikram on Apr 06, 2003 08:31 PM  | Hide replies

I dont think Kapil and Vengsarkar have the right attitude...i would like Bishan Singh Bedi to take over has coach who can instill a sense of aggressiveness in the Indian team.

Vikram,

you know what I wish??

I wish you were sent to Iraq or N.Korea.

Think this is gonna happen?

Same likelihood of Bedi being Indian coach.

Bedi is a person who can't coach himslef to keep his trap shut; How on earth, will he coach the the Indian team?

Bedi doesnt have any control on his own mouth. See his recent remarks on Ganguly about his decions to bowl first in the World Cup Final.

He dont have any control on his own things and he cant coach the Indian TEam

Be Proud that India is runner up
by Abc on Apr 06, 2003 07:31 PM

I can't understand why everyone talks when things r going well. Be happy that India is runner up. Be proud of it. Stop pin pointing on others. Wright is doing good job. When players are not having and problem in wright as a coach, but why others ?. Stop thinking about foreign coach or home.

Wright is better coach than Indian counter parts
by Dinesh on Apr 06, 2003 07:12 PM

These senior indian players, Kapil and others, know themselves what they had done to team as a coach. I never saw indian team as aggressive and united as they are now...India knows what was happening inside indian team when kapil and gavaskar were playing for india, team spirit was in mire coz of internal rivalary between these two giants. Also when Azhar was captain and kapil was coach, team spirit was at the lowest point of all time...kapil as a coach publicly criticised that no player want to share the room with azhar...what a trend kapil was trying to set...if india is playing better or i say best of all indian team then it is beacause of john and sourav who had backed his boys against immense oddd...if BCCI want to replace wright with other coach, please dont bring these indian stalwarts, they will again bring the now dead rivalry. Please select a new foreign coach as he will bring new and fresh thinking into the team but no indian big shot please.

Wright is the right man
by Ritesh on Apr 06, 2003 04:09 PM

Hi,

John Wright's record as a coach has been great. AS far as Kapil is concerned, he was always an inspiring captain and not a thinking one. He would lead from frontwith his performance but was short on tactics. His stint as a coach was perhaps the worst by any coach in last 5 years. Sandeep Patil had a tenure earlier with no great success either. He has succeded with Kenya but is his record as good as Wright's? India has had former test players as coach for ages but ddi it make any of the overseas performance better. Ajit Wadekar was the captain of the grat wins against West Indies but his presence as coach never bought the same success overseas. There is an incident when the coach of the Indian touring team took "the opportunity" to get his knee operated while the team was having a torrid time. And guess who it was:- none other than Kapil.

Foreign Coach
by Raghu on Apr 06, 2003 03:54 PM

I can't understand why all the past Indian cricketers get prickly when they see a foreigner (John Wright) doing such a fantastic job for Indian cricket.

I believe the Indian cricket hierarchy (BCCI) can't bear to see a foreigner doing such a great job. I am a strong believer that BCCI's opinion when appointing John Wright was "he is another sitting duck and as soon as he stuff's up we will get in one of the ex-Indian cricketers."

As soon as India lost that first test against Australia the BCCI must have been get the blade sharpened for the culling. And the blade was terribly sharp when India was bowled out cheaply and asked to bat again in the now infamous Calcutta test.

I know I am playing the "devil's advocate" but I might as well keep playing this role, for one more scenario. When India played terribly in New Zealand and then got beaten, actually thrashed, by Australia the writing was on the wall for John Wright.

But through ways in which only he, his support team and the Indian cricketers must know he brought the team out of it's doldrums. And how wonderfully they played to make any Indian proud.

And now the BCCI and some "so called experts" ex-Indian cricketers want to get rid of him. SHAME ON YOU BCCI...SHAME ON YOU KAPIL, ANSHUMAN, DILIP et al...get a life and stick to what you are good at...which is talking SHIT and leave the Indian cricket management to John Wright and the rest of his support team.
