Yes we need more IITs, but there has to be a proper program & schedule by government of INDIA & Corporate Companies of INDIA to consume the best & i would say all IITians with in INDIA for its betterment, self reliance & progress, at least for next 15 years. we should not become IITian Supplier country becuase it is BRAIN DRAIN.
I'd say that merely increasing the number of iit's is just like what you call....total quality mgmt....well if quality has to be maintained then the quantity should be checked....better than making new iits ...it would be better to come up with specialized institutes for specialized scientific fields...well talking of increasing the numbers....if 12 IIT's why not 12 IIM's and 12 AIIMS too and 12 NDA's also if that could help...coz if the quality will remain the same then might be need not worry.....Huh..?...anyway I'd say "Govt of India" just freaked out.....After all.....
Creating more IIT's is the governments justificaion of churning out more talented engineers. But there is a flaw in the logic here. IIT's have been known to be the place where, the so-called, the cream of our country go for their studies. But there is only a finite number of bright young engineers that the country turns out each year. Making more IITs and creating more seats will lead to a dilution of the talent pool. The image that the IITs have strived to create over the past 5 decades will be diluted too. Besides there is already of surplus engineers in the country. Even the IITs are faring very poorly in getting all their graduates placed. Increasing the number IITians that pass out each year will blur their distinction as every second guy will be from some or the other IIT. Besides, the government can do much better by allotting more funds to the existing IITs. The facilities at IITs, though by far the best in the country, are still nowhere even near to those in countries like the US. So, my view is, that instead of a whole bunch of mediocre institutes, the government should concentrate on increasing the level of the present IIT's to world-class standards.
it is very good decision to open new 5 IITs as this will help to creat best technological environment in indian education scenario. It will also help to increase Technical power of India. And will give chance to some more able guyes which were unable to get admit to IIT just because of excessive compitition.
I do not feel having more IITs will add to exclusivness, but the IITs should be distributed uniformly throughtly the country.Besides raising REC's to IIT levels will only be a "paint job".One more thing is that we got to make the IITians so that they help in the development of our country and not cater to western market and lead to talent drain.
Calling some random institute in India an IIT doesn't make it one. What's in a name after all? On the contrary, it could have a negative effect on the IIT's themselves. If the quality of the schools that are in line to join the IIT system is not anywhere close to the real IIT's, the high regard with which the graduates of IIT's are held in India and elsewhere will slowly dilute into nothing, unless, of course, by some spectacular effort on the part of the government, the other colleges are improved to match the IIT Standards.
Since we need more institutions of excellence like the IIT's The best thing to do, therefore, would be to first improve the standards of the other institutions before making them or calling them IITs. I hope the politicians or whoever is incharge will see to it that the name that IIT's have is not blackened.
In the midst of growing so called educational institutions especially self - financing engineering colleges just for money - sake this is an intelligent plan and action which will heighten our status, would increase the masterbrains and ultimately would build a powerful technological India in the near future.
Methink that this move of government should really be appreciated (if it doesn't mix politics in to this).
The IITs and the NITs are the backbone of the technology of the country. They take the world with a passion for engineers.
In the other coleges (RECs and Government colleges) the faculty does not find it serious notto work. The work would include : Making students to get the maximum knowledge and practice.
Many a times the teacher who is workholic is made thrust upon more work by the collegues and superiors that he is also bend upon not to work and is left with no choice than to be with the other flock.
The NITs would get the faculty with the more of the working culture rather than the planning culture. The students strive for the admission in NITs but the compiotition is more. The inrease in the number will relieve the compitition to some extent.
Well I think that Making the REC's IIT is not a good idea. In Fact Governmnt should promote IIIT's & well equipped and reputed private institutes such as Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of information and communication technology etc.
