Other alteratives Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham or Abhishek Bachchan who are known to play sports (soccer) regularly, from what we see of media feeds would have been appropriate choice(s).
3 reasons in favour of RK -,Plays sports glamour quotient and popularity would be the best.
2 reasons for Bachchan and Abraham would be more on a glamour cinestar quotient and sports players themselves.

when ministers have been ambassadors in the past for not having done anything , i see no reason why salman khan should be disqualified.
I find no valid reason for objecting Mr S Khan occupying the post of an Ambassador for Olympics. Acting in films is the job of a performing artist like any game or sport.He is popular and well known.For a change let us have him this time.
the olympic is an iconic place where every sportsperson wants to altleast reach if not win..atleast once in his lifetime. the road is laden with pushhing oneself to the extreme and making several personal sacrifices. and one fine day a filmstar walks in and sits equal to a sportsperson and shares the limelight.. for what ? he acted like a olympic medallist somewhere doesnt make him equal.will we indians ever stop filmstar and baba worshipping. just now when amitabh bachan for president issue was getting over this new one comes up. i bet some staunch supporters will come up too. all you fools, atleast dont insult olympians, already we are a contry of billoins who are only good in movie giong and atleast learn to respect sportpersong who raised the bar.
Hi. Its a fact that today a large portion of Indian population does not know much beyond cricket. The glamour and money is also associated with only cricket. Appointing Mr Khan as a good will ambassador will only create more awareness about other sports. It is also a fact, that face of a sports event should be a sports star and not a film star. Again, bollywood has contributed a lot to the sports by creating interesting biopics which is motivational and imparts knowledge to people in the days where reading habit of kids and youths have decreased.

a large section does get awareness about sport stars from their biopics. In you haste to argue and disapprove Salman, you missed to understand what I stated. Did he come and tell u that he does not have any clue? Today lot many bollywood celebs are promoting sports( for your sake-investing in sports). For you information I am no salman fan. I am a Amir Khan fan so for me it really doesn't matter what salman khan achieves and does.
