AIBA

AIBA should better probe the referees and their decision and watch the recording of the bout. The Indian boxer did the right thing by refusing the medal. They all work so hard for years, only to be deprived by some partial decisions. It's shameful.

Strong boxing association required
by Rajan Sastri on Oct 01, 2014 11:27 PM

Let us face it. Nations respect only those nations that are strong. Our boxing association is a weakling. The Indian officials are out on a jaunt. The only way to defend ourselves from such blatant injustice is to have a strong association. Look at BCCI. It dictates to the ICC. BCCI built clout. Let individual sports associations also build clout vis a vis the international sports governing bodies.

Is this really indiscipline

Can the experts in these laws answer my doubt please?

If a sportsperson refuses to accept a medal, does it really violate any rule / law?

I can understand rules against actions such as flinging away the gold medal or yelling. No such thing has happened. It was an extremely dignified expression of her outrage at a grave crime that was committed in full public view on an international stage.

If you refuse a medal, it does not violate any rule. But the report here does not mention the complete incident. Sarita took the medal in her hand from the official and when the Korean silver medalist bowed to her in the typical Asian way of greeting, she put the medal around her neck saying that you deserve this bronze medal. In my opinion, this act on a fellow sportsperson was crude and mean. It does not justify her cause. Her fight was only against the corrupt association and judges, but I fail to understand as to why she humiliated another sportsperson. In all likelihood, the sportsperson herself might not have bribed the judges to declare the result in her favor. Judges must have been bribed through the Korean boxing federation. So why disrespect a fellow sportsperson?

How do you protest if you have worked for years, spent mornings running and putting your body to pain? How do you protest when at India a women goes into boxing? How do you protest when in Govt. quota jobs your promotions are linked to sports performance? How do you protest when only Mary Kom and she was tipped to gold medal winners? It is very easy for us city bred butterfingers to share views as we have no where got into that pain. Do we react the same way when Kohli screams at an umpire or a cricketer picks up a fight or Bhajji calls someone Monkey aka Maa Ki ... ? She did what she felt right at that time.. if she had not gone to the podium or refused to take the medal it would have been the same humilation. She is repesented by a country which is poor in sports standards and zero on political influence on sports issue (have we forgotton the olympic westling issue). So dont judge her actions... she did what she could vent out... lets pray that she can play again

The only actions required now
by Chaitanya on Oct 01, 2014 11:11 PM

If any wrong has been done at all, it is the judges verdict in favor of the Korean.

If any investigation is required at all, it is into how the judges arrived at their scores.

If any speculative statements are to be made "that the whole incident looked like a well planned scenario", it is about how the judges arrived at identical scores in favor of the Korean. That's a "well planned scenario" for you.

If any action is to be taken, it is not on Sarita. It is to be taken on the stpd rules that do not allow for an appeal, despite blatant judge buy-offs having happened in boxing history.

If Sarita decides to stick to her stand, and if it results in her being suspended or disqualified by AIBA, every Indian should rally behind her, fans, including Indian boxing authorities, government, corporate sponsors, et all.

If that Korean Jina Park has any iota of honor in her, she should admit the truth -- that she lost and Sarita won, and Jina should hand over her silver medal to Sarita. It would still be small consolation for Sarita's lost opportunity to try for gold.
