Bad news for Nadal fans
by Anuraug Rathor on Jul 31, 2014 02:42 PM  | Hide replies

Nadal suffered a right wrist injury and pulled out of Toronto and Cincinnati, the two biggest hard court events before the U.S. Open. Nadal’s wrist will be immobilized for 2-3 weeks. The U.S. Open begins on Aug. 25. Can Nadal possibly be healthy in time or is his U.S. Open title defense in jeopardy? I certainly think so.

With a rejuvenated Djokovic, an energized Federer, a motivated Murray and a crop of youngsters intent on breaking the Big Four’s hold, the odds would be stacked against him at the Open.

If the wrist becomes a lingering issue, however, like it has been for Juan Martin Del Potro, then what? It’s generally accepted that he won’t age as gracefully as Federer. Will this latest one affect his ongoing G.O.A.T. race with Federer? If not for a freak back injury, Nadal would be two Grand Slams away from Federer’s mark of 17. Then again, Federer was a few loose points in Wimby away from extending his lead to four. There are no givens in this debate. For now, it’s advantage Roger.

Hey clone, nice language in your post! Where did you cut paste it from, the ATP website? It isn't your usual gobbledygook of abuses and cheap shots, plus it gives due credit to Nadal, so don't tell me you wrote it yourself!

Yes clone, you guessed it right. I got the news from another website, I had it edited and then posted it.... Felt like sharing it with rediff readers. So sorry for your idol. I hope he will be back for the USO.

Hope so, clone...even in Wmbledon his early exit made it boring as everybody wanted a Nadal-Federer SF. Anyway it shows that you can be nice if you choose to. Pity your friends here are not of the same class.

Djoko can now be certain to get the year end #1 ranking and Fede can make it to the #2 rank if Nadal also skips the USO.
As I had said earlier, its good times ahead for Djoko and Fede fans.

But then...just a few corrections to what I said
1: Djoko and Fede fans are one and the same. Frustrated Fede fans who jumped ship.
2: The word impossible doesn't exist in Nadal's vocabulary. He has been injured before, with career threatening injuries. The last time his slam tally was supposed to end was some time ago and since then he has added 4 to his kitty.
He swept the NA season last time capping it with the USO. This time having to skip Toronto and Cincinnati, it definitely doesn't look good. Hope he is fit for the USO.

Anuraug (nadal fan), you said, "I'm sure Federer holds the record for most rapid decline of a former champion".

But its actually turning out that the most rapid decline of a former champion will be Nadal.

I've predicted Nadal's downhill demise by the end of the year, except on clay. He has played and trained at 110% for almost his entire career. The knee will go again, his hand will be a mess of bandages, blisters and scar tissue, the wrist cannot fully recover.

Federer will gradually decline, but Nadal's late afternoon has come, evening and twilight are not far away.

During wimbledon you said its will be Raonic vs Djokovic final. You underestimated that Federer will lose at the quarters itself, but he made it to the finals. He is still ranked 3rd in the world, at almost 33 yrs of age. No other player has played at such top level even at such an age. Thats the greatness of Federer.

Federer has set the record of 302 weeks as No. 1. Nadal has only been No. 1 for only 141 weeks (not even half the time as Federer). Now you should understand the magnitude of it and Federer remains the greatest of all-time.

I clearly understand that Federer is the greatest at the moment and also all-time. I sometimes argue that he is not the greatest, just to create a controversy and for the fun of it. Federer is truly the greatest and I know that at the back of my mind.

No Federer is not GOAT and will never be. He is GHAT.No.1 record is not a criteria as it depends on extraneous factors. Anyway now I know FedUp fans are scared of quoting the no. of slams as criteris because it is under seirous threat and all their predictions have been ground into the dust by the real GOAT, Rafael Nadal.

Federer won the runners-up trohpy. So he still got some silverware from Wimby.
His tally may be stuck at 17, but I'm confident Nadal's tally will be stuck at 14.

By showing great spirit to beat the golden oldie and deny him another slam. I was relieved to see that. The golden oldie had a dream draw this time that he will never get again at any slam. I am confident his tally will remain stuck at 17 and he will never make the top 2 again. I'm sure Federer holds the record for most rapid decline of a former champion.

Nadal has been pushed to No. 2 position by Djokovic, who has shown tremendous fighting spirit to win Wimbledon. I'm happy Djokovic won the Wimby and also the No. 1 ranking. Nadal may not get to the No. 1 ranking again, but he is bound to stay No. 2 for a long time.

I predict Djokovic will rule for another 3 to 4 years as No. 1. He will most likely challenge Federer's record of 302 weeks and he is currently at 104 weeks. Djokovic is only 27 years of age, one year younger than Nadal so all the odds are favourable for Djokovic.

With all the ifs and buts there's one thing that's 100%- Federer will never win another slam or get to even no.2 as long as Nadal and Djoko are alive. I was very happy to see Nole win Wimbledon and defeat Federer...as long as Federer doesn't win I am happy.

One thing that is also 100% is that Nadal will never get to the No. 1 ranking again and will never win another GS title. Nadal prime is finished soon and as long as Nadal doesn't become No.1, I am also happy.

H2H
by Anuraug Rathor on Jul 21, 2014 12:03 PM  | Hide replies

The only way to differentiate between 2 players is when they face off, and face off multiple times.
No.1 ranking depends on the opposition too and that is why FedUp managed to stack up 300 weeks or whatever easily beating also rans like Hewitt, SAfin and Nalbandian. Not saying that Federer isn't great. Unlike the Federer fans we have class and wont talk drivel. But it is true that the moment a serious contender appeared who was not afraid to stand up to him, he closed shop and collapsed like a pack of cards.
Will Nadal overtake Federer's 17?That we cant tell just as we cant tell if Rory McIlroy will overtake Tiger Woods or whether the monsoon will be good in 2018.So sensible people will refrain from making outlandish predictions. Those who predicted Nadal wont win USO 2013 are now cloning my name and predicting that the likes of Raonic and Kyrgios are the next superstars based on performance at 1 slam. Shows their tennis knowledge and class.
All in all it's a sad time for the FedUp fans who can only abuse clone to try prove a (non existant) post. FedUp fans are now Djoko fans as he's the ONLY one capable of standing up to Nadal, even today. Not the so called young guns they have miles to go till their name can even be taken in the same sentence as Nadal.

No. 1 ranking
by Anuraug Rathor on Jul 19, 2014 01:06 PM  | Hide replies

Federer had been #1 for 302 weeks, was consecutively #1 for 237 weeks, another record which will stand the test of time.
Some (nadal fans) may argue that he had weak opponents in his early days... but how are we to measure that they weak or not... In the same way we can say Nadal won 9 FO titles because all his opponents were hard / grass court players. Nadal is the only clay court specialist in the present era so he keeps winning on clay....

I'm happy that Nadal has been dethroned from the # 1 rank... Djokovic rightly deserves to be the # 1, since he won the Wimbledon and also made it to the FO final. If Fed had won the Wimby, Nadal would have stayed at the top ranking and maybe held it for the year-end also.

Now Nadal has 4000 points to defend in the coming N.American swing. I feel Nadal will never be able to get back to #1. His rule is terminated at 141 weeks.

NO.1 for 302 weeks versus 141 weeks ?? Nadal has not been NO. 1 for even half the time of that of Federer. So clearly tells who is the greatest at the moment.

Coming to GS titles... Will Nadal overtake that 17 GS titles.. highly unlikely....
Nadal is 28 yrs.... after 30 yrs of age its highly difficult to win a slam... So Nadal has another 2 yrs to win 4 GS titles and overtake that 17. He may win the FO one more time, but other slams its unlikely since the young guns of Raonic, Dimitrov, Nishikori, etc have matured and now we have krygois.

So Federer remains the greatest and Nadal will not be the one to over-take his records. He can claim a superior H2H record against Federer and only that. Also when Djokovic finally gets a better H2H against Nadal ( trails 19 to 23) Nadal boast of superior H2H will also be squashed.

All in all its happy times for Federer and Djokovic fans. :)

Nobody brings in Davis cup for greatest argument, it is a team event and also has doubles, if thats the case then Fed has Gold in olympics.... again winning a majority Atp masters is not a great deal when 19 of those are on clay and if there had been ATP masters on grass then Fede would have won more.... French-wimby doubles? then why not think about USO, AO, Wimby 4 times....

Anyway whats the use of your said records of Nadal, if he is not able to get to the # 1 ranking for most times.... just like the proof of the pudding is in the eating.... the proof of the greatness is in the ranking.

Have a relaxed time and enjoy the Nadal's another record of staying more weeks on # 2.

Nobody brings in world no.1 for greatest argument as it is not dependant on the player himself but also on the competition.
Anyway whats the use of your said record of world no.1 of Federer if he is not able to win anything anymore...just like the proof of the pudding is in the eating the proof of the greatness is in the winning.

Fede's record of 302 weeks is the new holy grail,as the no of slams record (which was the previous holy grail) is no longer secure for the FedUp fans.
As it is there are no more slams for the golden oldie nor will he ever become no.1 again...so lets just hang onto the old no.1 record...innit?

RIP Tennis boards
by undertaker on Jul 12, 2014 03:45 PM  | Hide replies

I will probably get a lot of flak for this. But here goes.I'm an old timer here and blog very rarely, but I have been following the tennis boards keenly since many years. Sad to say that the boards as we know them have been wrecked by silly fighting between a group of so called fans. The tennis boards are a pitiable sight now.
This is mainly due to a fight between a group of Federer fans vs a group of Nadal fans. And it has finished off the boards forever.
I am a tennis fan and I enjoy the grace and finesse of Federer as much as the aggro and competitiveness of Nadal. There used to be very knowledgeable tennis fans here and the discussions were mostly positive.
To the Federer fans, you probably are 60% responsible for this state. Abusive language, threats and other antics are unnecessary. While you are entitled to your opinion, please respect those of the others as well. Cant you debate on merits? Is it a crime to think Federer isn't the greatest ever? Is it befitting of Federer to degrade, insult and provoke Nadal fans?
To the Nadal fans.. cloning is a form of impersonation and is not funny. It violates a persons dignity. I think Nadal would be ashamed to have fans like you. Does it diminish Nadal's greatness if a group of poorly informed non experts abuse him or degrade him?
Look at the boards now its a collection of reported messages. A lot of knowledgeable fans have left and I don't think they will ever be back.
RIP tennis boards.

I understand your feelings. There is a lot of abuse going on here in these tennis boards. Its mainly between the fans of Nadal and Federer. I know the fights are for silly reasons and each group claim their idol as the greatest.
When the players themselves have so much mutual respect for each other, the fans should also follow the same.

You are right. I know there were lots of people visiting these boards earlier. Now it has reduced, mainly I feel its because of the abusive language being used here.
I don't blog here much, but I accept even I've been guilty of being abusive. But I have decided to change for once and for all. I like a saying, "Be the change you want to see in others".... which is what I'm going to follow.
I like the main atp website, where people are very courteous to each other and at the same time support there players in a decent manner. I blog there sometimes and find it more entertaining.
