LEE PAES
by amit hazra on Jun 24, 2012 05:17 PM

LEANDER PAES IS BY FAR THE BEST TENNIS PLAYER,IN SINGLES OR IN DOUBLES,THE COUNTRY HAS PRODUCED IN THE LAST 10/15 YEARS.HIS ACHIEVEMENT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF AND EVEN IN PRESENT FORM HE IS SUPERIOR BY FAR THAN BH&BO.THE GOVT.SHOULD HAVE NOT HAVE GOT INVOLVED IN THE SELECTION PROCESS AND PLAYERS CHOICE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN PAID HEED TO.

ONE HAD HEARD ABOUT RUSSIAN PLAYERS NOT WANTING MARIA SHARAPOVA IN THE NATIONAL TEAM -BUT WHERE SHE REACHED NOW -AND WERE ARE THE OTHER RUSSIAN PLAYERS TODAY.

SAHARA SUBARATA ROY MUST BE COMPLIMENTED FOR TAKING UP THE ISSUE.LETS HOPE SOME SENSE WOULD COME BY OTHERWISE LEE WILL HAVE TO SUFFER JUST LIKE HIS FATHER DR. VECE PAES HAD TO UNDERGO IN HIS TIME WITH THE PUNJAB HOCKEY LOBBY.

MINISTER'S ARM-TWISTING OF AITA DEPL;ORABLE.
by damodaran mohan on Jun 22, 2012 01:16 PM

Last week when S M Krishna, the Foreign Minister on TV made an appeal to Leander Paes to keep the national interest in mind one could guess the shape of things to come. But AITA further goofed it up by pairing Leander with Sania, perhaps some 'deal' with Leander. This decision on mixed doubles coming just couple of weeks after Mahesh-Sania winning the French open by itself reflects how unprofessional AITA's decisions and working have become. It also shows Leander in poor light. AITA giving in to the unjust demands of Mahesh Bhupati under govt. pressure is certainly going to set a very bad precedent and no wonder with such weak AITA administration we have factional fights and a lot of mud raking at every Davis cup tie. Now if Leander refuses to go to Olympics then perhaps SM Krishna-Anil Khanna can form the 2nd team for the Olympics .And in case Sania also refuses then Sonia can take her place.

Selection Process
by Saurav on Jun 21, 2012 10:44 PM  | Hide replies

Selection process could have been simpler if the media did not create unwanted mess. The action from AITA should have been simple.

Since Paes is in top 10, first select Paes and then select the next ranked as partner - Bhupathi. If Bhupathi disagrees, select the next - Bopanna. If he is also refusing to get into the team select the next one - Vishnu Vardhan. Ok that is the team - Leander and Vishnu Vardhan, and there is no question of second team as there was no plan of sending two teams. The second team itself was a compromise formula worked out from some quarters.

Doubles players are expected to adjust very quickly. If Vishnu Vardhan is not suitable for selection because his style does not combine with Paes, they should go for another one. At least that way politics can be avoided.

Expect if luck is on their side, I don't expect Mahesh and Rohan to cross QF. If Leander is a true champ, then leander needs to go with Vishnu and even winning a bronze will suffice. Wonder if this will happen?

You need to be kicked out of India for thinking along these lines. unless you are already out and commenting from the neighboring country.

If your cheap idea is to be followed, many minority leading players from many a countries of many a sports will have to be thrown out!

Those 2 players happen to be the best option right now. If your suggestion is to chose a player based on religion and not talent, then i suggest you move to the neighboring country they will welcome you their festering sore of a country they call land of the pure.

Leanders attitude

Ramesh Krishnan paired with a lowly ranked Leander during his formative years to help him gain confidence. Why refuse to help Visnuvardhan.

Ramesh krishnan's singles ranking was quite good when he was young. but when he paired with paes his doubles ranking was quite low. Ramesh never won a doubles title.

Shame on AITA
by Francisco on Jun 21, 2012 08:52 PM  | Hide replies

Injustice has been done to Leander Paes. Shame on AITA. They could not decide firmly and went the way of Bhupathi.
Justice and right has no place in India. Paes should migrate to some other country. It is of no use continuing to play for India.
Pained to say so but that is the truth. Spineless people in AITA. Now they will try to put blame on Paes to cover their weakness.
India lags behind in sports because of this type of decisions.

Only Paes
by Vignesh on Jun 21, 2012 08:44 PM  | Hide replies

Only Paes is a patriot. No one else has a right to win India a medal even if they form a better team. See for last year he partnered only foreign players so he can have a great doubles rank all so he can get be the first choice of India. Bhupathi on the other hand partnered Bopanna for selfish reasons like trying to win a olympic medal for himself.

So if you qualify for the olympic's because of your ranking and you have the first choice to choose your partner, are you saying you can ignore all that because 2 people decide to choose and make their own team to represent India? does that sound like blackmail.

you cant stand paes because you think along religious lines. Sania and bhupathi are both globosport promoted players, a company owned by bhupathi so every body knows why they prefer bhupathi.

AITA
by thomas mathew on Jun 21, 2012 08:43 PM  | Hide replies

The AITA guys should be flogged for making this fiasco. Bhupathy the business man flexed his financial muscles and these backboneless money hungry men bent their back for him to ride. Leander for Indian tennis is much more than Bhupathi and Bopanna put together and had always been compromising but there is something called self respect which he can;t afford to lose which these AITA besterds wated him to . They are ruining Indian Tennis and peol,e who take pride in our achievements in the field . Shame on you guys!!!! And Bopanna , the yesterday's boy who does not have the right to even lick the feet of leander shows his horns when supported by the opportunistic doubles player Bhupathy who has never played a singles game in davis cup for India . Bopanna should be flogged for disrespecting a senior player like Leander when he has never played alongside him, but just repeating what Bhupathy says because he is contracted by Bhupathy's company. This is business ruining sports and AITA aiding it when their duty is to stop such things

Mr, what was Paes doing all last year? Bhupathi asked him to play with him and Paes refused. He instead went and played with only foreign players. Had Bhupathi also done the same, he would have as good a rank as Paes. As for AITA, Paes and his dad Vece Paes have more control there than Bhupathi. You seem to think only Paes has the right to get India a medal. Bhupathi is as good a player as Paes and in addition he teams up better with other players. No ego for Bhupathi. He just cannot tolerate the ego of Paes which is blown sky high with that one medal ages ago and some davis cup wins centuries ago.

Dear Sir sure you are more knowledgable than me but I have to remind you that there is a thing called personal acceptance which is fundamental for any team work. And you cannot force a person to make him accept you. What I gather that this guy paes is not only not acceptable to these two char lies but is at a very low level of acceptance by most of the other players as well. Even Sania
Mirza has reportedly said Bhupathy is my first choice and my first preference as a mixed doubles partner. Please carefully see for yourself before passing any judgement as to who should be flogged. I am sure you will be rolling back your earlier comments.
