India can make a comeback
by Manjapara Rangarajan on Aug 13, 2012 12:47 PM

HI and IHF should come together first , so that we can have good pool of talented players. In the WSH league , we saw lot of talented players who could have been selected in the present Indian team, but they were not eligible. India could muster only those players who did not play the league, maybe about 40 % .
Nothing is over still . If we pick the right combination of a major tournament , we will certainly see results.
I am an optimist , and I believe India can be the world champions again.

Intentional move
by desi twist on Aug 13, 2012 12:30 PM  | Hide replies

The European move to introduce astro turf was an intentional move to suit their style of play of team work, more speed and passes, rather than the artistry of dribbling.
That being the case, if India is unable to cope, they should either avoid playing the game, or start their own Asian Hockey league (on grass).

Hockey debacle
by anand Swaminathan on Aug 13, 2012 12:22 PM  | Hide replies

We need to admonish our Forward line by stating that please pass the ball who can score the goal as he is in better position near to the net. But current forward position members would like to see that the goals scored
in their names. Because of these reasons, we lost so many chances. Like Cricket, we have to give more bonanzas to Hockey players. For example, if the opposition doesn't score a goal in a match, we have to give a reward. Likewise, if we score 1to 3 goals, we may give some award.

What is paramount important that our coach should say to the forward line members that all of you will get adequate coverage in the press even though one of your member score the goals.

I watched the first match between India and Netherland. I found that forward line members would like to score the goals individually even does not want to pass the ball to other member and they want to show their artistic work before the audience. This is the main reason for this debacle.

Not just that, on the astro turf, they are simply unable to cope, their passes are typically intercepted or just off target. When they are on target, they are not intercepted correctly.
Probably that also plays in their minds and they try to go solo, but on the astro turf, even that does not work for long.
These factors also play a role, in addition to the individual desire of heroism.

Get the infrastructure in place
by kadimichetty srinivas on Aug 13, 2012 12:14 PM

No point finding a scapegoat , please HI should now spend money on infrastructure so we have players who be trained on artificial surface which will help them to train better.
There should not be any discrimation in selection process and if any player is not interested in palying for the country then please release the person so that we donot have to give reason for any failure.
