Get the infrastructure in place
by kadimichetty srinivas on Aug 13, 2012 12:14 PM

No point finding a scapegoat , please HI should now spend money on infrastructure so we have players who be trained on artificial surface which will help them to train better.
There should not be any discrimation in selection process and if any player is not interested in palying for the country then please release the person so that we donot have to give reason for any failure.

team Top 12 teams are better then hockey india. We cannot attack properly in D. Look at great bretain, australia, neitherland, germeny hockey you watch there is good attacking and great stemina of plyaers.Look at australia they defeat in semis after a good game better then Great Bretain who humiliated against neitherland do not lost their motivation and attacked for bronze medal. India cannot seriously for playing against new zealand, korea, belgium. This is shame ful tha new zealand loss and belgium loss.Even korea defeat team india just only 15 minutes. But there are lot of chance in ajlan shah, saarc, asain games to win gold, silver, bronze but in olympics there is no chance of team india

At least I can concentrate on games where we have better hopes to win.

India is useless and history when it comes to hockey.

but previously they used to fight back..but after the introduction of artificial surface, they lost their way...now we have to start from square one...a new team, new coach, new grounds...we have talent no doubt, but we have galvanize it..

What can you expect from a squad that was deficient in defence, disoriented in attack and disgustingly inconsistent in the half-line.

Unable to sustain fluidity for less than a quarter of an hour in a contest, India tumbled from defeat to defeat to send passionate fans into a state of despair.

The hope after the fight-back against the Netherlands, the strongest in the pool, vanished against the Kiwis. Thereafter, it was a sequence of disasters with Korea heaping humiliation in the biggest theatre for the sport.

To blame anyone other than the players would be unfair. Everything was provided for them: adequate training, exposure to competitions in all climes and promise of generous rewards.

After artificial surface the game become fast and indian subcontinent are not having stamina to run with the speed and the stick skill will not work on astro truf and our sport ministry and board didnt invest and laid any trufs for junior level and moreover hockey in india become only for punjab players after Gill become President of board and he mistreated other state players best example is Mr.Dhanraj pillay, shadid and somany. No its time to remove the game just only concentrate on cricket as our culture and industry which supports only money making games

Indian Hockey was worse
by Face Dude on Aug 13, 2012 11:03 AM

even earlier. this team was better. The teams that played in 1976, 80s were all bad as well. Because by then australia, germany and netherlands have already established their supremacy. Only in 1980 moscow games india won gold against the only other hockey playing nation that year spain due to boycott by major countries against Russia.

Else it was downhill right from 1962 when we first lost gold to Pakistan in olympics. India just did not raise their game later on as far as olympics is concerned.

Indian Hockey
by satishgs on Aug 12, 2012 11:27 PM

A Team like Belgium who learnt to hold hockey sticks last year, beats India, and this is most incredible thing.

May be the entire team went there to have fun and boozed out, playing not for country but to enjoy the trip.

Most disgusting team ever produced by India and the coach must be sacked as well.

let India build new talents, and send the team to European tour for 2 to 3 years and learn how to play hockey.

Shame Indian hockey adminstrators and shame on the current team.

by SachinFan mother on Aug 12, 2012 11:19 PM

Now each of them should submit their report to the government what they learnt from their experience on how to improve India and prepare them for the next games. Else they should refund the money they have spent on travel, hotel stay and olympic ticket.

This is a ridiculous statement to be made by a veteran. Discouragement is the last thing our hockey team needs at this stage. They did play some good games. Claudius should keep aside his past and help the current team with his experience.

Encouraging someone who came in fourth or fifth and missed a bronze medal is of course appropriate.

Severely criticizing a team that loses six out of six matches of which only the first and last were competitive is entirely appropriate.

Claudius Saab. Last time in our Hockey team was not even on the plane to Beijing (2008 Olympics we didn't even qualify). This time we got ticket on flight to London (2012) and played hard and came 12th.

Is it not 1 step improvement. We are slowly clawing our way back from the deep trench Sir. Wait and watch. In 2032 Olympics we will even win GOLD. Be optimistic. Don't give up. We beat Germany in 1936 Olympics in Berlin and Hitler called Dhyan Chand to inspect his stick to see if there was magnet and wondered how the ball was sticking to the WIZARD's stick and German team wasn't getting much of the ball at all. Today that same weak German team has won GOLD in Olympics 2012 isn't it ?

Its the CYCLE of Life. Nothing remains forever. What was bad becomes good and then bad and then good .. Cycle continues.

In Hockey India was GOOD between 1928 and 1972, became BAD between 1972 and 2012 and then the cycle shall repeat and its time we can only go in one way .. GOOD and who knows we may slowly improve and go forward win and reach the Golden period once again in the next 30 years. Wait and watch. I am not being sarcastic at all. Jai Ho !

Well said Ganesh. Those times where Claudius played olympics ng I believe all the teams were newly introduced to the game then. Just like we are world champs in the game of Kabaddi today. Ones other countries have enough exposure we would know our real place.

Well I am not criticizing out Indian team. There isnt a lot of interest in hockey these days as there isnt a lot of prize money involved in the game. It is the same with all other sports in India, and we are not finding enough people who are interested in this game. We used to be weak in cricket too, but look at now we have improved a lot.

I wonder how many of us even picked up a Hockey stick in our lifetime leave alone playing a hockey game. At the same time there will not be a single person who hasnt played cricket in India. I am sure interest in other sports is going increase a lot in this coming decade.
