carl lewis lost his respect. he also said that blake did not try hard, meaning that bolt got the top ranking on a platter - which is just plain ridiculous.

CRYBABES
by drax on Aug 11, 2012 07:50 AM  | Hide replies

Typical American crybabeAttitude. Even on TV before 100m final he was predicting that Bolt will definitely not win the 100m. CarlLewis is frustrated that Bolt has achieved what he couldnt. Americans by no stretch are clean and know ery well how to mask even random dope tests. So until and unless something actually concrete emerges regarding Jamaican doping he should keep his trap shut.

100% agree with you.American athletes are no saint. They are master of doping but are saved by the agencies because of money power

Same thing can be said about America

Americans have won innumerable gold medals in athletics specially in 80s and 90s when the dope tests were not as advanced and athletes normally used to get away with it. So it is highly likely that most of their athletes were taking drugs and setting new world records. At least now dope tests are much stricter and more prevalent. Bolt is absolutely right in slamming Carl Lewis because Carl Lewis himself may have taken drugs and he is now criticizing athletes who are much less likely to take drugs.

Carl who?
by Laid in India on Aug 10, 2012 07:33 PM

Americans taking the moral high-ground on any issue - be it environment, financial ratings of other countries, religion or ethics is always funny. What they need is a big shiny mirror. And Bolt has rightly called Carl Lewis's comments as nothing but a attention seeking stunt. I'm sure Vinod Kambli has started following Lewis on Twitter :p

Just a mindgame of Americans

Americans are good at it. They will try to arm-twist others to submission. If they can not, they will try such verbal attacks! Fitting reply from the Jamaicans! Bolt's records have been set in International Meets and defaming such achievements is not in right spirit.

Carl Lewis scores a self goal

It is very ironic that the man Carl Lewis, himself is strongly suspected of taking drugs in the 80s, when it was "standard" for top teams having very sophisticated drug programs. Flojo, Randy Barnes were known drug takers, to catch up with the all conquering East Germans in the 80s.

80s were also the period where as he is alluding to in interview, "random drug testing" was not prevalent. Also lots of drugs were undetectable at the time.

One has to appreciate the fact that West Indians were all natural athletes. Earlier they migrated to US to have better chance at winning, now they are doing on their own countries resources (how Bolt was offered a sports scholarship in US and he declined it).

Guessing from press reaction, it seems that except Americans, none care too much for Bolts comment. Carl Lewis had his share of wins and controversies, but he was never as popular or marketable as Bolt.

Well said Sir. Why Flo Jo retired immediately after setting world records in the 100m and 200m as she was very young at that time? Carl Lewis might have been a great athlete but he was nowhere as spectacular and crowd puller like Bolt. Lewis is making these statements as if Bolt is setting world records at a club level, where there is no proper drug testing. Bolt has performed over a period of 8 yrs at the international circuit and he would have been doping then why he has not been caught for more than 8 yrs?
