Fault finding
by kskumar on Oct 05, 2010 06:14 AM  | Hide replies

The author appears to be one of those professional fault finders. What does she mean by saying that India should have projected its " modern " face ? Does she want the techies from Infosys or TCS to come up with their own floats ? Or that somebody should come and lecture about the amazing progress made by India in all fields ? Nowhere is there even a hint of what she expected. Every culture tries to show off what is unique to itself and that is what everyone expects too. The train thing could have been avoided, but otherwise it was ok.

This is a poor article from somebody who finds nothing good about anything, a cynic and is best ignored.

CWG Ramblings
by Dheeraj Tyagi on Oct 05, 2010 06:13 AM

The best part about CWG opening was that it showcased the entire India. It was heartening to see that the Indian contingent was lead (I mean the Name signage)by a girl from North East. The "Railways" show indeed show cased India's chaotic and teeming millions. the seven year old whiz kid at tabla was a sight to behold. If any thing that was missing was perhaps the glimses of small but upcoming "modern India". Hats off to the Choreographers, dancers and other participants to make it happen and make India proud. Bravo

senseless bouncing around, incessant and boring drumming, waste of human and electrical energy, totally ignoring all the realities that India is, forgetting, or pretending to forget that poverty and deprivation is paramount in our country and giving a false make belief image to a world that could'nt care less about our realities.

So Mr.Sood,
What do you propose? Parade all the beggars that they evicted from the streets? Conduct the games in a slum? Just because India is poor, it doesn't mean that you roam around wearing your poverty on your forehead. You showcase your country to the best of your ability in these events, after all image counts and it will help in advancing the country in the future. You can't really progress if you hang on the past. Since you sound like a neo commie, you should look at what the Chinese did for the olympics.

There is something unique culturally in old India. But new India is all about corruption and wealth accumulation by a few. Then there is shopping, more cars, traffic jam, pollution and not caring for anyone else outside the immediate family. How can they show new India?

i am sorry to say mam,but it was much much better than sania and shoaib malik marriage coverage which was in the front pages of papers,we Indians moan about good things not happening and on the other hand moan about good things which have happened or will happen,I am very proud with the opening and it was just what we wanted to happen!!!be part of it and tell those people who on television were saying that they want to get out in the event of the games, dont they have national pride or shame!!

have you EVER run competitively?
by desman on Oct 05, 2010 05:10 AM  | Hide replies

Do you know how it feels when you see someone else inching ahead of you, while your organs are almost bursting out from under your skin? What thoughts go thru someone's head in such a situation? There's anger, rage and despair obviously. But if you are lucky there is also wonder, exhilaration and a mad dissonance. Everything converges, and you remember anything/everything even dreams that you dreamt years ago. In India everyone is doing that, from the poorest labourer to the richest businessman. They are running outside their skins. They are slowly forgetting who they are and why they are running, but the compulsion is inborn (not imposed as in China). If, during this race, the Indians want to dream an identity for themselves, would you deny it to them? Is your ivory-towered heart that ossified? If you think an identity as huge (and as free) as India's will manifest itself in a remotely linear and sensible fashion (like what Nehru and Gandhi envisioned - IN THEIR OPTIMISM) then I believe you are too naive to be believed as a reporter. Glad that at least SOME parts of the ceremony impressed you. As for the Ganda Nala, even if they fix it now the monsoons will get it later, unless they raze half of Delhi and build it again with proper plumbing... So Good Luck INDIA! JAI HIND!

Thanks! Encouraging words feel nice.
India is an explosion of life happening at all scales (and beyond) of human perception. If more Indians understand that then perhaps they can manage that change better, both individually as well as a nation. Actually, with today's technology, this suggestion should be applicable to all humankind. Take care and live well!

Another thing: I was wondering how the heck did they manage to balance that HUMONGOUS turban on that rickshaw driver's head? Ancient ritualistic knowledge? Modern engineering? JUGAAD technology? All of the above? none of the above? HOW can you NOT comment on that? If anything that image is a symbol of modern India in SO many ways: drives a rickshaw but has big dreams etc...

You know they actually did that: raze half of delhi and build it again. So maybe the Ganda Nala shudn't be there. but the rest of my point stands...

In the past traitors like this b1tch would be shot or hanged for their anti national behaviour. Instead the Cangress party rewards such traitorous stooges of the west.

Is this a compliment or an injury? What ever the case - I am happy and proud after all the hoo haa - CWG have started out very well. If some one says it has been better opening ceremony than Beijing - I agree.

by bkrishna_009@rediffmail.com on Oct 05, 2010 03:58 AM  | Hide replies

Sheila, you u r simply un-indian and disgusting who is so desperately trying & praying for things to go wrong. The rest of the world had loved especially India has shown "What India is about". do you have any idea how much criticism we(Indians living abroad)handled in the past few days? Step up and love your country, just not blasting & criticizing every single move.

i think this lady sheila is not happy for the CWG.lady, u have the freedom of speech,so can say ur thoughts. but i think, whichever games u consider, olympics, CWG, any world cups, the host always tries to show its rich tradition to the world at the opening ceremony, and thats what we did. Did u see the world cup held is SA, or the olympics held in China ?? they had shown their tradition someway or the other..so y cant we. either u have no respect to india or u r bugged up seeing the indian tradition to much !! i hope u r praying for the indian cwg team to win as many medals as possible. in case india performs well, plz try to write some good things abt the players, instead of criticizing them. thanx anyways !!
