Hockey is not Cricket where handful of teams compete. Still we rank among better teams in the World and play this game well. We must agree that there is something in our blood for this game. Let's not lose it. Let's support our team better than before. Let it rise to a level never before. We have the potential. We definitely have ...

Sri Lanka - the name itself is from Ramayana.
The current name is derived from the Sanskrit (śrī lankā) with the word lankā, meaning "island",also being the name of the island as described in the ancient Indian epics Mahabharata and the Ramayana. The word śrī is a Sanskrit title meaning "venerable". -- wikipedia

India did play well in spurts
by ashok rengasamy on Mar 12, 2010 12:05 PM  | Hide replies

India for sure exhibited some good hockey but in spurts. Indians still believe in artistic hockey and has to raise and realize that synthetic turf means speed. I think we have to first start addressing issue from the school level and fitness is paramount importance. The major flaw what i could see our defence was porous and we need a wall!

no use man, when a hockey player gets 25000/- for a tournament where as a cricket gets 1,50,000/- per one day T20 and 2lac per test. Until this huge dispaity is removed, our national game will continue to suffer.

There are a few world class players in the indian team like sardara singh, Dhananjay Mahadik, Gurbaj singh & sandeep singh...going forward we should try and stay in the top six so that we can play champions trophy...

WE WILL
by jayadeva golvalkar on Mar 12, 2010 11:42 AM

You can't change things over night, Brasa is a good coach ,he is making lot of changes it will take some time for players adjust to new metods like, man to man marking, one touch pass etc.The thing is that we are lacking in basics of hockey like passng, reciving etc.Our defenders like Sandeep sing is very poor in skills We should give chance to youngsters like Mhd Imran,Roshan Minz,Dharmaveer Sing,Etc.We have talant but hey must provided with opporunities.National level tournaments are not happening beccuse of HI election problems.HI is not doing anything for Hockey. For everything elections should happen first.Brasa needs minimum of 3 yrs to prepare a world class team.
