It is very clear from this world cup that level of indian team is far below the other top 5-6 teams in the world. It would be too much to expect any success from this team in near future unless a new team is formed and well trained. Also it is too much to expect that our (corrupt) hockey associations will change their style of fucntioning.

Do u know abc of Hockey from 12 to 7 and what a display of the game changes do not come overnight give brasa some time i think this was best display of tactics by india in field attack so good.. This was best performance by india al leaset in last 20 years thats my age
It is not a good idea to play against Pakis. Better we have to play against european teams to test our skills. Pakis are playing same style as India. But european style is different.

Agreed,,,also with Pak, the game becomes something else,,its like bhai-bhai series,,,rubbish,,,I think we shouldnt play with Pak,,,
Re: Not a good idea
by Gaurav Mathur on Mar 12, 2010 10:58 AM
right... but it sure is better to practice than to not practice at all... playing pakistan will boost the viewership and interest in hockey in both the countries and will also give a chance to our players to try new stuff...

Time Brasa has spent with the team is very short, to expect any dramatic improvement. But results will be achieved say in the next year or so.
Re: Brasa
by Venugopalan on Mar 12, 2010 11:31 AM
Brasa has done a good job. But within a short time you cannot expect a miracle. If you go on changing coaches/trainers that will leave Indian hockey nowhere. We should have faith in coach, I am sure brighter days are ahead of us..just keep hope..
Re: Re: Brasa
by sachin gharat on Mar 12, 2010 11:47 AM
Before worldcup our standing was 12th, now if we cn jump to 7th or 8th position it would be good enough. We had lot of expection from our hockey team but we dn knw much about the game and the current situation, we jus wan to our team to win all matches
It makes greater sense to play against teams that have finished with better rankings than play with Pakistan. Our team needs greater exposure to the style of hockey that is being played by the europeans or australians. Nothing is achieved overnight. Brasa has done a good job.
Re: A fifth place finish would have been good: Brasa

Pak is not bad team. Australia Just managed to beat them 2-1 where as India was trounsed by Aussies 5-2.

Pakistan lost to England 5-2 while England just manged to beat India 3-2. Now what?
Re: Re: A fifth place finish would have been good: Brasa
by Venugopalan on Mar 12, 2010 10:44 AM
NOT only that pakis beat spain, whereas India lost to Spain badly. so playing with pakistan is not bad idea, technically speaking...

by himanshu sharma on Mar 12, 2010 10:49 AM
But I think what India lacks is European style of hockey. We shud be playing more with Europeans teams now.
Indians have a sixth of the world population and still cannot excel in their national sport. What loosers. You guys really suck, especially given your large population.

Lankapat, Enough of you trading punches..Do one thing.... organise a beauty contest, between both the countries. If you guys win... I will accept the bitter pill :-)

See the difference of medals tally of Australia and Srilanka in the last olympics, inspite of the fact that both AUS and SRIL has nearly same population. Why?? Whay do you do??
Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 10:53 AM
Australia is much better in sports than us. We admit it. They are a richer country. But India thinks of itself as a power AND has a sixth of the world population ha ha.

Sri Lanka's ranking in their national sport "Volley Ball" is a joke. You should know that better before writing this comment.
Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 10:53 AM
why speak rubbish. Volley ball, you are good at making things up. In Cricket, we are top 8 in the world. We are a small country. We compete and beat a country of a billion people often.
Re: Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 11:04 AM
but we have beaten indian many many times. so it is okay when we lose because we are not loosers like indian hockey ha ha

we are top 10 in Asia in hockey. So stop speaking crap. Speaking crap is of course india's nubmer 2 past time after hockey.

India is just waking up. the future looks bright for young indians.the large population is a curse and not a blessing, as you believe. A large population brings a lot of problems..
Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 10:55 AM
if it is a curse and you think you can provide better quality of life for a smaller population, then why not decentralize. The fact is that a large country is an advantage. A small country cant go larger just like that but a large country can break up or decentralize easier. The fact is that despite the advantage of large, India sucks.
Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by Zero h on Mar 12, 2010 11:03 AM
but small country which is purly dependng on India called srilanka sucks more!
Re: Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers

how do we depend on india ha ha. china is building a port, not india.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers

A (one) port - thats only. ask some one who have knowledge about ur economy or just learn from wikipedia.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 11:17 AM
yes, they only built one port, we build 3 more. We don't need more. Colombo port is bigger than most south indian ports by far, including your ltte chennai.
Re: National game and still loosers

Sri Lanka ranks 55th in world population. Let me know if you even rank 55th in the world in your national sport.
By the way do you know your national sport?
If you have done that analysis then let me also know who sucks.
Do mind that we have world's sixth of population but we don't have world's sixth of money. People fend for their bread first than playing sports. Don't write such comments if you struggle to apply common sense.
Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 10:56 AM
yes, we are top 8 in Cricket. Volley ball is not our national sport. they wanted to make it in 1991 but it was subsequently changed.
Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by Zero h on Mar 12, 2010 11:11 AM
so a country donot know which one needs to be national sport is arguing with others. How many times ur country were world champs in ur national sport. We won it atleast 1 time and wererunnersup in 1 year.
Re: Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 11:18 AM
Cricket, we won once and we thrashed india in their home yard twice during that time.
Re: National game and still loosers

Does't matter we are 2nd largest populated countries. But, genitic-wise, India, Srilanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh are more or less same. See, India has topped with around 100 Golds in recently concluded Dhaka Saff Games. How many Gold Sri Lanka won man
Re: Re: National game and still loosers

Comparing on a per capita basis, we were far ahead of india. far far ahead of india, so dont even compare.
Re: Re: Re: Re: National game and still loosers
by lankapat on Mar 12, 2010 11:19 AM
far lower than india. Did you know that UK donates more money for poverty alleviation projects in india than the whole of your space project. If it wasn't for UK, you wouldnt have the money to divert to your space project. A billion people in poverty. At least we don't have as high percentage of people as india in poverty ha ha.

@lankapat its such a shame that we indians reply to those whose countries economy depends on BONO and MADONNA concerts... i heard in future srk aamir akshay will also be doing concerts so that rajapaksha can run his govt..lol
raised nations expectations to unreasonable levels, but 5th position would have been great, let's hope we can settle for 7th, which will also be a good show.
