CWG village

Why did DDA had to buy the flats under construction from Emmar at a higher price than market price when because of recession Emmar wasn't able to sell the flats in market?

Why couldn't Govt. let banks to auction off the flats and let Emmar cite a loss or go bankrupt?

Whats the objective
by Ninja Kirgi on Jul 27, 2010 09:31 PM  | Hide replies

Whats the objective of organizing Commonwealth Games?
Just to boast to the world that even if half of our population lives at less than Rs 50 a day, we have enough money to spend on a sporting event!!!
What does IOC wants to prove? That it can organize a big sports event!!! IOC and Delhi government has already proven to be incompetent and thoroughly corrupt. We already saw what happened during Hockey World Cup this year, which IOC has almost successfully dumped away in dark corners.
While by organising Olympics China has not only proven that it can organize a world class sporting event, it has also proven that China has surpassed USA as worlds biggest sporting power.
On the other hand we are still praying that none of the world class sportsmen participate in CWG so that India can win atleast some medals.

With the Indian attitude of letting things cross their legitimate deadlines it won't be a surprize that some of the stadias and Games Village get finished just in time for Diwali or even Christmas.

Who other than some C-grade builders who are doing construction work for CWG, IOC members and people from Delhi Govt. is going to benefit from this disaster-in-the-making? Obviously not Indian sportspersons and neither the common man.

KALMADI A KURRUPT MAN.
by satyanarayan rai on Jul 27, 2010 08:51 PM

This Kalmadi is helding the top sports position for several years now. What great has he done for the Indian sports. One news is that Formula1 racing (byy the efforts of Vijay Malaya)is planned here in India later 2011 or 1012, was to be a national event or come thru a national sport bosy, but this Kalmadi destroyed all the plans. All the rights to organize Formula1 racing now belongs to his son and he has the rights for at least till 2018. His Son's company will make huge amount of money. Kalmadi shud immediately thrown out of IOC and black listed. I'm not saying that Vijay Malaya is better, but at least he has done some good works for the pride of India( bringing Tipu Sultan;s Sword and securing M.K. Gandhis' heritage in South Africa).

Money making opportunity for Kalmadi and co
by vijay M on Jul 27, 2010 07:12 PM

Aiyar does have a point. India with a population of more than 1 billion doesnt win more than one medal in Olympics.
India got an individual gold for the first time in last Olympics.
This is really shameful and embarrassing on the world stage.
The need is to invest a lot of money for infrastructure development in rural areas where people are much more stronger physically.
There may be a lot of potential talent to be unearthed which may win us medals in athletics and other events.
Usually everyone will talk about this when India comes back empty handed during world games but after a while everything is forgotten.
We cant win medals without talent and that's where the money should be spent.
Commonwealth games, Asian games are merely an opportunity for officials to become millionaires.

Aiyer is right
by ashish thapa on Jul 27, 2010 06:47 PM  | Hide replies

Few points:
1) Why all the Games happen in delhi only? can't they spend money on other regions?
2)Aiyer is right when he says , there is no infrastrcture for sports in Inidia...a country of a billion can't participate in World cup Football..commonwealth will not do anything gud for Indian sports.
3)By participating in c. wealth games we areonly accepting britishers as our masters.

The organisers of the Commwealth Games are not at fault that India is part of the British Commonwealth. That India should be part of the British Commonwealth was decided by India's political leaders, not the organisers of these games in India. And then Mr. Aiyar seems to have problems with Asian Games and Olympics as well. So he is against any type of games in India not just the Commonwealth Games, which is hard to digest. And if he is against any corruption in the organisation, then he should specifically talk about that. Why say that he would be happy if the Games are a failure ??

Why should India even think of hosting Olympics when we can't move up from the bottom of medal tally?

Also other than Beijing Olympics none of the other Olympics events in last 30 years have made money.

As a 3rd world country India cannot afford to waste billions of dollars in organising such an event which won't only be a big corruption magnet, but also a security and infrastructure nightmare.

Does Mr. Aiyar criticise Mrs. Indira Gandhi as well who made sure the the Asian Games in 1982 were a success ?

But who says that India is going to host Olympics in the near future ? As far as Commonwealth games is concerned, India has always been in the top-5 in the medals tally. We have successfully organised Asian Games 28 years ago. So we are perfectly capable of hosting Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. Why do the critics only talk about the expenses for the organization of the Games ? Why don't they talk about the other sources of wastage of money ?

CWG are over over hyped and a means of corruption
by Speaking Tree on Jul 27, 2010 06:42 PM

Common wealth countries consist of those countries which were once colony of British empire.... mostly african an south asian countries....
India came 2nd in last CW games...That's tell the quality of games

This game is only the ploy to loot public money in the name of games....Thousands of crore of rupees of contracts were distributed without following proper procedure( including smaller one worth crores of ruppes for which even tenders were not issued). Every project cost has been inflated in between the work without proper procedure to siphon off money.
Initial estimate of gams were few hundred crore of rupees has now now stands thousands of crore of rupees
