Argentina's

94-2nd rnd exit, 98-quarterfinals, 2002-1st rnd, 2006-quarterfinals, 2010-all know now

Argerntina's so called "achievement"in the past 5 worldcups or say in the last 20 years.

Guys were so mad about this team, if it was a germans or italians(this time was odd one) who had a rich history of at least reaching the semis minim in the past 20 years, or on a consistent basis, it was understood....

Not only this time, Argentina were never a big team who can b tipped as favorites to win, maxim is quarterfinals, not beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May be just their likings towards "Maradona".

see u dunt always follow a team because of logic or statistics ... yes, somewhat it is is due to maradona effect ... but argentina played beautiful football over the years .. that also matters to some !

I would rather say Argentine football style is 'win by hook or crook'.
They took the wrong cues from Maradona and play football by all crooked tricks and tactics.

ya-we very much agree-just before match there're so-much hype about Maradona & his so-called magical eleven-but it seems that they're more popular for wrong reasons-like abusing on field -just see how Power-packed Germans resilenced them by adhering to their basic game of defence & counter-attack instead of wasting time in all this showbizz media-hype-the way Maradona created before this match

Germany all the way!
by mefunxy on Jul 03, 2010 11:21 PM  | Hide replies

What a team! Absolute perfection. I believe Germany is 20% faster as compared to any other teams in the world cup. Precision to the ultimate!
I feel sorry for Argentine. They remind me of old school indian hockey. They spend all their time in foreplay with the ball but cud never bang it at the spot which matters the most. Tragic!
You cannot have a baby with foreplay...that happens only in mythology

germans are strategical kings..the wya they played today was different from teh way they played against england or serbia or ghana or australia....the team which plays strategically according to the situation and opposition will rule the world..though am an argentinian supporter, my full marks to teh germans..we can defntly witness mouth watering finals..

teh reason y serbia put the brakes on them is that they crowded the german frontline with defenders which the argentinians or teh gnlish failed to do so..

Argentina needs a better defence & midfiels
by sourabh bhowmick on Jul 03, 2010 11:17 PM  | Hide replies

we all saw the thrashing argentina got from germany.Argentina will loose half its charm if Maradona is not there.Messi is brilliant but we all saw how the kakas..gerrards n rooneys failed because of lack of team effort.Let us get to understand that Argentina has a very poor defence..n even the midfield is lacking strength.
Messi is very special but he will easily be bottled up by 2-3 defenders manmarking him.Yes forward line looks impressive. But days like today evening which slowed a somewhat off day for forward line will always expose weak defence.
Defence n midfield needs an overhauling. These Verons ,Heinzes,Burdisso, etc are not good enough.
They need a tighter tougher defence. But as always all Argentine fans like me will wait 4 another 4yr to watch Argentine magic again..Maradona really has cast a spell from 86...we always expect something from argentina...but reality is somewhat different.

Its not just the defense is weak and forwards are impressive. German forwards are impressive too.

Difference is Podolski and Klose run back to help on defense. The same Messi was repeatedly marked by Podolski on defense.

However the Primadonna Messi, Tevez and especially Higuain never came back to help out on defense. So you had 5 Germans attacking and 7 Argies defending leaving gaping holes in defense.

The only up and down player for Argentina was Angel Di Maria.

Argentine fans ...

It is high time to stop dreaming.
24 years have already passed since Maradona.
There is no more magic left in Argentina.
And neither will there be any in future.
Maradona was just a one-off spark in an otherwise low profile team.
A team always hyped up by media or Maradona's antics.
And every time put up a flop show in last 6 world cups (including this one).
So, STOP WORSHIPPING FALSE GODS... and wasting your energy and time.
Change your loyalties to teams which play better soccer or will do so in future.

Yes Sourabh you are right about the Argentine defense being very weak & had many loop holes. I too a die hard fan of Argentina since I heard the magician name called "MARADONA" from my child hood. Most of the fans of Argentina support the team due to him till date. I am too sad to see this defeat by the Germans who are playing too good football right now. But I would love to see them loosing to Spain in the semis. Well have to wait again 4 long years to expect Argentina to lift the trophy again & repeat 1986.

Yes we will wait 4 the better days. Its the legacy of Maradona that keeps the argentine fans waiting n watching. But still feel ..nobody can ever match him..nobody can galvanize a very ordinary wild side to such a glory.Still times have changed We have players like Messi n Tevez..hopefully a crop of young n talented players like Germany may come up in next world cup.

The ball matters no doubt and releasing a new ball in February is rubbish. FIFA ought to know better as the Bundesliga did not have a contract with Nike and used this ball whereas the other leagues had a contract and did not.

@Mr Vij and Mr Marathi
The balls maters or not is a separate issue. ADIDAS is official sponsor of German as well as Argentinian team. The balls were issued to all the teams at the same time, although ADIDAS sponsored team one had a slight advantage. To add to that the world footballer of the year "Lionel Messi" and other Argentinian players are brand ambassadors of ADIDAS. And if only ball would have been the issue Netherlands(Nike) and Uruguay wouldn't have reached the Semi's. Grow up and learn to accept defeats rather than finding excuses.

Issuing balls to teams is different from using those in match situations. But never mind ... you won't understand.

And this is not a excuse. If all leagues cannot use the ball it is hardly fair.

German football has always been a very physical one. But this German team has added another dimension to it by the inclusion of skillful players like Khedira, Ozil and Muller. Podolski, Klose, Lahm and Schweinsteiger brings in the much wanted experience.
The Germans are looking very dangerous...
