Shame
by Ganesh Kini on Aug 24, 2010 04:11 PM

The Govt. has gone to such low levels. Vishy has always been playing for India. The person who has brought so many laurels to India, this is the treatment he gets from our politicians and bureaucrats.. Shame on you.

Vishy Anand rejects doctorate after citizenship questioned
by Hebbar R on Aug 24, 2010 04:10 PM

The Hotelier from New York Sant Singh Chatwal is eligible for Padma Bhushan honour that is totaly controversial and to date there is no clarification on this. The name of the PM himself is involved in this controversy. But, a great player like Anand is being treated like this. It is a shame. What does it matter where Anand lives, so long as his Passport is Indian?

The same Govt is shameless in talking greatly about people of Indian origin, who are big time people in Obama's Govt. Though some of them have renounced India publicly.

Doctorate to Vishwanathan Anand
by seshadri venkataraman on Aug 24, 2010 04:10 PM

It is a shame for the whole country and each and every citizen by denying (or delaying) the conferment of Honorary Doctorate to the World Chess Champion.
If the same is conferred to any politician, will the Ministry look into all the minute details that was checked for Anand.
I think by denying to Anand, they might have reserved that Degree to any `dirty politican'.

If Indian-American can get Padmabhushan...
by Rajani Benimadhavan on Aug 24, 2010 04:08 PM  | Hide replies

I know at least 2-3 Indian-American (having American passport/citizenship) who had been honoured Padmabhishan. Then what is stopping this univ./HDR ministry do such blunder to Anand. An honorory doctorate is not limited to Indian citizens. Height of Indian Babuism, shame!
