NADALS WARRENTY PERIOD
by RAGHU on Jun 09, 2009 02:44 PM  | Hide replies

Nadal is not a player, he is a tennis machine. All people know that every machine is prone to be faulty after the period of warranty. If over used, it can go permanently out of order. So let us see when Nadals warranty period ends.

Nadal vs Time - depreciation, wear and tear, weak.
Fedex vs TIme - Appreciation, strong.

Yes, your time is over much earlier than Federer or Nadal. Please go and jump in Arabian Sea or Bay of Bengal.

A little correction to the article........
by Arjun Gowalia on Jun 09, 2009 02:37 PM  | Hide replies

Andre Agassi is not the only man since 1970s to win on 3 different surfaces before Federer....

Swedish Mats Wilander also won grand slams on 3 different surfaces....
Mats Wilander won the French open thrice on clay, won the Australian open twice on grass in 1983 and 1984 and also won the Australian open on hard court in 1988....Wilander also won the US open in 1988 on hard court Deco surface....

So, in the open era, Federer becomes the third person to win on 3 different surfaces after Wilander and Agassi..

Rediff needs to improve the quality of its reporting and authenticity and that can happen if they ensure that only experts write such articles...

The reference to only Agassi being the sole player to win on 3 different surfaces is from amoungst the 6 players to win Career Grand Slams. Mats Wilander never won the Wimbledon, so is not a part of that elite club. Hence, Federrer is the only player apart from Andre Agassi to be a Career Grand Slam winner on three different surfaces.
This is an indication of his greatness.

Federer the Greatest
by SREENU RAO on Jun 09, 2009 01:37 PM  | Hide replies

Dear All Nadal Fans,
Atleast now please stop saying that Nadal is the greatest. Please read the following carefully................
a) After the match was over Soderling said that Federer is the gretaest player of all time. Even Billie Jean said it in her mail. Nadal has himself said earlier that Federer was the greatest. But it is ridiculous that Nadal fans are not accepting it. A classic case of Fans becoming bigger than their hero.
b) Federer had been on top for more than 5 years. That is the fitness level. Nadal has Knee pains already with one year at the top. How can you compare Fedrer who is 27 and Nadal who is only 22. Let us see whether Nadal can beat a 22 year old when he is 27. I dont think he will able to lift the raquet after being in top for 5 years in row if he can ever be.
c) Federer crushed Soderling who in turn crushed Nadal in this years French open. So whoever says that Federer would not have won had Nadal come into the finals are idiotic.
d) Federer lost most no. of times in a grand slam to only Nadal. But Nadal lost most of his grandslams to low ranked players. He knows that but His fans dont understand. What a pity.

To tell someone 'the greatest' in the world, it requires proper evaluation on many counts, including the period, say last 20 - 25 years etc. There were great players of Tennis in Sampras, Edberg, Lendl, Borg etc. You need to evaluate judiciously to say one 'the greatest'. However, if Federer can win 2-3 more Grand Slam title before his retirement, I would definitely say he is 'the greatest' till then.

@ SREENU,
Ndal also feels the same.He had told many times that federer is greatest of all times.
But dont be so arrogant.Nadal is also a great player,if not how did he win grandslams in all surfaces. And by the way if nadal was not there, federer would have won 20 grand-slams till now.Just think of it.
And surely nadal will win more grandslams as well as roger.
Like sampras and agassi these two are also legends of tennis, just accept the fact.Federer also feels the same.Remember 2007 final in wimbledon.Federer said after winning that he want to win more grandslams before nadal snacthed away all.

And your logic of beating soderling and soderling beating nadal is totally rubbish(if u know tennis well). Some players played well again some kind of players.Nadal always struggle if some play power tennis and execute them perfectly which soderling does. But he always played well against federer.
So federer fan, accept the fact nadal is also a great player and he will atleast win 10 grandslams. And in men's tennis and specially in federer's era it will be indeed a greatest achievement.

Here is a simple calculation of Federer's greatness. Since the beginning of Jan.2008 it it said that Federer is `out of form' and Nadal swept everything before him. During that period, outside of the Grand Slams Federer won a little known Halle tournament in 2008 and the Madrid Masters this year. But, look at the performances of the `in form' Nadal and out of form Federer during the same period in Grand Slams. Out of the six Grand Slams, Nadal reached the finals thrice and won all three against Federer. He reached two semi-finals and lost this year in the fourth round at the French Open. The out of form Federer reached five finals and one semi-finals and won two of them. Do you need anything more to prove the greatness of Federer! Even when he is out of form, his form in Grand Slams is extraordinary, which can be matched by no other player. That is the hallmark of greatness. At least till date he has not lost in the fourth round on his favourite surface. None knows what the future holds!

All my comments about Federer are after he achieved greatness - that is from 2004. Before 2004 he was a non-entity. After achieving greatness, he has not lost in the fourth round in Grand Slams. Nadal lost in the fourth round of this year's French Open when no one expected him to do so, and after achieving greatness. As I said, no one knows what the future holds!

U r right, but at 2004 what was federer's age,and in 2009 what was nadal's age.......age is on nadal's side........and by the way no one also expected federe to lose wimbledon and australian open to nadal..........nadal has improved so much in grass court and hard surfaces that even federer acknowledge that.......
yeah noone know what future holds but it is sure that dey both will win more grandslams,
And if nadal donot play in wimbledon none can stop federer from winning that, but we want again those classic finals which dey provide us in past, whether u r nadal fan or federer fan its irrerelevant,we want good tennis, and we all know in this era who can provide that(its only federer and nadal)

DONT BLAME FEDERER GUYS !
by bob dsouza on Jun 09, 2009 01:29 PM

I totally agree that Federer has been at the recieving end from Nadal but we must keep in mind that he has lost to Nadal on clay 8 times and infact beaten him also on that surface which is not his best surface. It proves how good Federer's all round game is as he reached so many finals there.I dont see Nadal coming in the Wembledon finals year after year as last year he played exceptionally well to beat Federer who was on a downslide after the mauling he recd from Nadal at the French.I wil be mighty surprised if Nadal did as even Agassi though he won it once never made it to another Wembledon final after that.Regarding dominating the game is concerned Sampras trailed 4-6 against Richard Krajicek and 4-5 against Stich but still we call him the best player of his generation .4-5 times on hardcourts and grass Federer will win but then can Nadal make it to those Finals ?

Definitely the best player in the last 40 years(Laver's record is just a tad more impressive) ...would have called him King but he cries too much. Also when some real competition(Nadal) came along he has not looked too good

Nadal is definitely rocked Roger's boat the last 2 years ... and because of lack of competition prior to that I don't look at Roger's reign at the top with the same awe with which I look at Borg's reign or even the Sampras years.

Yeah dude! I agree with you completely ... this Roger is a little suspect. Granted he has dominated the last few years and has all 4 grand slams and 14 slams ... but what was the competition and when Nadal came along he definitely was at receiving end. And so maybe not the King but definitely the Queen.

Whom federer def in finals
Wim 2003 def Philppousis, Wim 2004 & 2005 Final def Roddick, Wim 2006 & 2007 def Nadal, Wim 2008 got def by Nadal in Final.
French Open 2005 def by Nadal in Semis Nadal went on to win, French open 2006-2008 final got def by Nadal, French open 2009 winner def Soderling who def Nadal in 4th round.
Aus open 2004 def Safin, Aus Open 2005 got def by Safin in semis & Safin went on to win, Aus open 2006-2007 def Baghdatis, Gonzales. Aus open 2008 got def by Djokovic in semis n he went on to win,in 2009 got def by nadal.
US open 2004-2008Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Roddick, Djokovic, Andy Murray.
You can see whoever def Federer since 2004 in any Grand slam has went on to win the final. LOlz but it didn't happen in case of Nadal he lost to Soderling in the 4th round of french open 09, although he was able to reach the final but there was Federer who spoilt his party.

Some may claim that nadal lost in the 4th round so that he can avoid the humiliation of losing to federer in the finals..... thou' it may be partially right because federer was in supreme form. so now also nadal avoiding the wimbledon is questionable of his greatness.
