There are many people who criticize sania for the fact that he didnt meet expection which is true. But one thing we should look at is the fact that, she's the one who FIRST broke out of shackles and made some name for herself and the country. She didnt yet blossomed to the potential. But she has an impact to the budding indian women tennis players like the way anna kournikova did in russia. Now we see the change. On average we see 2-3 russian players in semifinals of the major events. We can hope something similar happens to India
If Sania can go to semi-finals (which i dont think so will be a problem considering her current form) she can break into top 50 again. Good luck for her.
And many have commented that why not others getting media coverage like sania. Dudes how many of you will atleast bother to read half of the article on either karnam malleshwari or others who are not so called social celebrities.
By the way I have myself seen how people react when Karnam malleshwari and Sania walk in the markets. Hardly there were any gazers at Malleshwari, but people throng to see Sania. I hope now we can see why Sania gets publicity because people like to watch her....

I hope now we can see why Sania gets publicity because people like to watch her....
- u cracked it dude. we like to watch Paris Hilton also, who happens to be more infinitely more popular than the girl topper from Stanford MBA course :) or a top McKinsey lady consultant
Sania is a talented player, still she wont be able to get in the top 25.. just like cricket sachin only 26 at all-time test greats. For Sania to get to top 10 she must reach semifinals or finals regularly.
I pity on Sania's haters...really pity on them.... Can anyone of us stop her playing or stop her publicity by writing all the crap against her... the truth is that she is a celebrity... she probably has made more money than we all together in our lives... do u think she gives a f*** of what people are writing about her...instead she would be preparing hard to match the world best despite coming from a country where people are interested more in her balls rather than the tennis ball....just pathetic and pure insult to someones daughter, someones sister and more importantly one of ours

no, but we can start showing our support to more deserving players like Mary Kom the boxer. that way she will get some sponsorship to continue on her world championship ways

Women boxing is not a frontline sport, tennis is, neither is weightlifting a frontline sport, PT Usha got more coverage then Sania and she was not good looking but because she was a track athlete which is a popular sport, so May Kom and Malleshwari do not get attention not because of their looks but because of their sport.
-omens sport she has ever won anything above her sole tier 4 title, has never entered a quater-final in a major, has never broken the top 20, has a fake accent, does unlimited ads, looks average, is a show pony, thinks she is the modern day margaret court...... i am not coming back

And you urgently need psychotherapy.
I will come back in this forum and after reading all your posts I have concluded that you are a ........ (Sorry!!! The animal rights commission will arrest me for abusing animals if I continue.)
She is good looking..fine. There are many others. Media is obsesses with this mediocre tennis player who has hardly won anything for India. We dont see this much of boxers, wrestlers or shooters in the media. Even vishy anand is remembered when he becomes world champion not when he wins at many tournaments.

people who have stuff dont bother about limelight. They simply do their job and keep silent. Next to Anand it is Dr. Kalam.

Vishy is also a citizen of Spain besides residing there! He choose to take a behind door exit from the airport when he landed in India after winning the championship unlike Sania and Mahesh. Anyway it is awful to know why a thousand cockroaches try to twist and change the mentality and admiration of a million people who like Sania, because they simply love her without any strong reason. Try to accept bare facts. Why degrade Malleshwari by comparing her with another woman?

Completely agree with you. Sania is ranked no. 87. Her career best ranking was 27. On the same note Saina Nehwal in badminton is ranked 10th in the world. But there is no buzz about her. Vishy anand is the only true world champion india has right now. Our boxers are respected world wide and india is considered as an emerging power in world boxing. But boxers are ignored by media and govt. Our Hockey has hit abyss from its glorious past. And media only runs after the cricketing baboons and a buffalo named sania mirza whose huff and buff in court is simply pathetic whenever she faces a decent opponent.

Supriyo, Next you will say that so-and-so Kabaddi player is a world champ.He/she should be given more prominence than Sania. Why can't you just see tha fact that tennis is a bigger sport than badminton.More glamorous.

This is what happens when glamour overtakes true talent. The day will not be far off when we will have film stars ( maybe even actresses !! ) playing IPL, becos some business tycoon liked it that way...

Shtty Boy you forget that she has made Rs 6.5 crores in "prize money" that is money made on "winning" matches, so not quite all glamour.

U seems to have developed a phobia against the people who are causing joy to millions. Just to show off your so called self believed intellectual stand you are not only causing pain to the followers of cricket and tennis by calling Indian team baboons and Sania a buffalo but humiliating the fans who are fellow Indians! Just accept that Cricket and Tennis are in no comparision with Badminton or Ametuer Boxing! If Mohammed Ali would have never became a professional boxer, he would have never conferred as the greatest athelete of world!

Sania is a looser. thanks to Bhupathi she has got a grandlam title which will be her 1st & last. Only Lee/Hesh have done well 4 India in tennis. Sania is overrated.

Your country?. Wah! Some one plays and make money and keeps making money by posing for advts etc, and you term them they are playing for the country? What a joke!. If you play for India, you will be virtually a begger. Sports is a big business in INdia. Look at China, they garner so many olympic medals and there is no processions, advts etc. They continue to serve the country that way, not our way.
Re: Re: Re: She will not go any futher
by kaushik saha on Feb 17, 2009 11:12 AM
Kadam, this is the very point which sadly many dont understand.
A grand slam remains an individual event - and my dear Mukherjee, it is never written on the US open honor board that India or US won this year, it is always the individuals name.
Whereas for the Leanders, Karnam malleshwaris and Rathores, the word India would forever be written beside their names
Anyway, even if you dont understand the difference - well......

Well the Looser has earned Rs 6.5 Crores in "prize" money, that is money made on winning matches, so much for being a looser.

Dear Tathagata I do agree with you. Sania has carved a niche for herself and we are proud of her acheivements. In billions she is amongst the best 100. Mr investor if u do not know much of it better not speak up.

Indians make demi-gods of rising stars and that's it they fall with a thus and end up as mediocres endorsing products in ads. - whether Sania Mirza, Irfan Pathan (good allrounder indeed but lost his bowling magic) & harshvardhan Rathore. Millions of other examples, "MR. KNOW ALL".
