Sania is every one's favorite. She is special and we all love her. OK?

Then how come she reached finals at Pattaya Open? Leander / Bhupathi have played only handful of singles matches in their career.

You comment as if Leander and bhupathi has touched peak in their respective individual games. None of us Indians has evolved into top individual players. Atleast she has broken into top 30 once. Surely a hallmark for Indian women tennis.

not political affiliation dude .. its simple show put up at applease the muslim people. But these arabs are hand in glove with the americans. This is just a stint .. what use is banning a tennis player when they coudnt say anything when a thosand people were killed in bombings in gaza .
i dont know why people are praising sania as she is not good player. she has come up due to publicity not with the efficiency. if she play against a good player she can not perform well

Well she only has Rs 6.5 Crores as "prize money" so far ( that does not include endorsements) not bad for someone who is not a "good" player is it not ? Prize money is what you earn when you win matches, So now do tell us how did she get this "prize" money through publicity ?
Sania has miles to go before she becomes a real frontline ranking player. She has to believe that she has the potential of winning over tough rivals also. Often after the first two rounds, she seems to loose steam or interest or both and crashes out. That's not a good player is all about!
Re: Sania is far away from the frontline!
by Red Pascal on Feb 17, 2009 02:53 PM
Mohan is the first two rounds you play less rated players, as you advance you play players of a higher calibre, so the issue is not of "losing steam" but of being able to improve one's level and game, she is a top 30 to top 20 player, and to win more finals and semi's she needs to get to the top 10 to 15 league.
Most of the female tennis palyers ( barring Serena who reminds you of Ben Johnson, and who should not be palying in womens' circuit) are fit, great bodies and pretty faces, while at the same time abundant talent. Sania certainly is a charmer and talented one too. She deserves all the attention and adulation she gets. While there could be other deserving female atheletes in India, Tennis is most watched and followed all over the world.
She is popular because she is the best female tennis player india has every produced. No matter if she couldn't make it big in any Grand slams.. but she has inspired lots of young indian girls who can make it big
Also, She was the best single rank holder from India , For your information Leander Pace best ranking was 84 in singles!!!

i beg to differ it was 73 when leander won the newport tournament in rhode island in 1998.and when did he change his name from paes to pace.u watch too much cricket i guess.

30 is way better than a ranking of 73, so does not matter if it was 84 or 73, the point is in singles she has done better.

I agree with you Suresh. Farziyat thinks about cricket but comments about women tennis. Sania is below average player and will never be considered as good even!
And the biggest blunder did by our Indian Govt was giving Sania Mirza Padma Shri so early in her career,it should have been given to her later in her career where she should have prove by advancing to finals of some major tournament. I am not against the award wat she got,but it was o early.....
