Indian football has to sell dreams
by Indian Guru on Sep 01, 2009 03:32 PM  | Hide replies

What lacks in Indian football is lack of organisation and lacklustre attitude of officials. Officals have to realise that its the public, which gives credit to a sport. If you have to win anything, you have to win the hearts of the public.

Footballers have to make a dhamaka like India did winning world cup cricket. Public always wants to be associated with victors and being the best in the business.

You have public watching EPL, FIFA, BundasLeague, Spanish football, European Football with high TV ratings but you do not have the same public watching Nehru Cup. This comparison is sufficient to prove that there is no dearth of interest in football and definitely Indians are no less talented guys.
Indian football Board has to sell dreams to Indian public, the dream is about making money, fame, glory, glitz, glamour, career. Can Indian football give any of them?

BCCI has a structure in place with states and UT having respective boards, there is league system in place, where lakhs of cricketers vie for top spot.
What Indian football needs to do is replicate the business model on lines of BCCI rather than fire fighting with them.

Unless football caters to Urban middle and higher middle class population, there is no scope for football in India. A poor example is the price money $40000/20 players. A descent middle/higher middle class family income ranges from $10000 to $1million why would he send his child to give a shot for $2000 at the highest level?

Why should government give so much money, facillities from the taxpayers pocket for a sport like football.

It is already allocating 100 Crores for sport, which according to me is too much.

What the government can do is providing spaces for construction of football stadiums across the country.

Its time a professional football board is formed on the lines of cricket board BCCI, which is a not for profit board. The board can give proposals and the government can give the all important land for lease.

It is upto the board to create the sponsors, advertisers, viewers, earn money and spend money on development of football. This is the setup in every country including Australia, USA, England etc.. The government comes into play only for represenation of a football team for olympics.

Even FIFA is just a body and association of Football boards like the ICC but is not a government backed body.

The only organisation, which is outside the purview of the government is the most successful in our country (i.e. BCCI)

Even badminton had tried to come out of the clutches of the government by forming a seperate association. It is the GopiChand / Padukone private academies that are producing the best results for badminton.

Know our Real Hero- Subrata Paul
by G Srinivasan on Sep 01, 2009 02:30 PM

Here is his personal history on his on account:
I am the fourth child in the family amongst three sisters and two brothers. As a child I went to Agarpara Mahajati Vidyapith (School) for my formal education. Thereafter I joined the TATA Football Academy and passed out in the year 2004. Presently I am Studying Graduation (BA).
My love for football grew from a very early age of mine. During my childhood days I used to practice playing football in Sodepur Club (located in the outskirts of Kolkata, India) under the guidance of Mr. Samir Chatterjee whose contribution towards my development as a number 1 goalkeeper in India is immense. Words just cannot convey my thanks to him...
Cooperation and support from my family members have always been huge and great. In cool and difficult times they have always been my greatest support.
Another person whose contribution towards me being what I am today is Mr.Debasish Mukherjee, the Ex-Goalkeeper of the Indian National Team, who has coached me personally for my improved performances. Words again are too little to express my gratitude to him.

is relentless and a tremendous fighter...he has the guts of oliver kahn and brilliance of the great Danish Schimichael... he can play for an european club thats what he deserves right now..
havent seen so much confidence in his/her skill for a long time ...he delivers day in and day out ..its crazy to see his dedication and motivation on the field....hes so consistent with his saves ..its almost a god like ability to save penalties and such close shaves during the matches ...even in the tie breaker the ones he missed he had near 70% accuracy as he jumped on the 'right' side where the ball was directed to when shot..great reflexes and super cool agility
Please support INdian football atleast when its doing great...i remember a time when we were losing to indonesia and thailand i can bet that we can beat them now ...i rmbr a time when we wr playing with 9 players against indonesia with 2 players being sent off and bhaichung doing the goalkeeping duties ....he has run a long lomg mile ..hes a real hero

Start a football league on lines of IPL
by Rahul Prakash on Sep 01, 2009 01:52 PM  | Hide replies

I would like to suggest that to create Indian Football League on the lines of IPL. Big industrialist/stars should come forward and buy out team for different states and we should have these matches involving big players from around the world playing for each team. Same should be followed with other sports as well.

Nehru Cup Win memorable
by Kumar Chakraborthy on Sep 01, 2009 01:44 PM  | Hide replies

India's win in the Nehru Cup is very memorable. But still I feel India is short of quality strikers. I.M.Vijayan was the best. Bhutia & Chetri are no par with him. India needs quality strikers agt. more balanced team if they are to be a reckon with. Coach Houghton should keep an eye on this matter. Else everything is Ok with this Indian team. Goalkeeper is world class. Defence is also rock solid. Midfield needs some more improvements. But the lacking is striking ability of our so called strikers. India made numerous inroads into Syria penalty box. But the finishing was very poor.

u r wrong. Vijayan was god but Bhutia is far better and far tougher, He is right up there with many international players. u got to get ur facts right mate. Don't support because of state and colour but do so on merit only.

Isnt it so pathetic to see the news of such a deserving win been placed third on rediff sports section.
Harbhajan comments are of much much more importance than this victory.

I agree with you Sachin, this is a great win for Indian football, we have won for the 2nd consecutive time and our bloody cable wala did not even show Zee sports channel to see this match live. We were glued to news channels for the updates. This is really pathetic of not only rediff but everyone who do not give importance to any other sport than cricket.

India Won the nehru Cup beatin syria in Sudden Death.. Nice play by Subrata Paul, especially that 2nd penalty he saved was truly a best 1. but i think, we still required to improve. Throughout this nehru Cup i observed 1 thing, they were passing high balls to the D box. but if they practise short pass games(like we see the game of Barcalona) then surely india can coe inside 100 in the rankings. and defence must be improved still. but quite a nice improvement
