National Game

I am doubt whether hockey is really india's national game. See how media is reacting after india's Azlan Shah hockey title win after a 13-year gap & India's cricket win in NZ.

The media is run by corporates and consumer companies who use cricket and cricketers to push their low quality and over priced products to Indian people. They see as advantage with cricket as individual are ad models and their performances are glorified, and team wins and losses are not less important.

In hockey, win or loss is important as it is attached to National prestige. It is a team work. So, corporates do not take interest. For corporates and companies India's national prestige is meaningless. For them the one which can penetrate the 115 crore market is important.

Shrikanth go see a shrink. Your views are not even fit for the dustbin. Responding to this junk is nothing but lowering my self esteem but need to clear some cobwebs stuck in your mind and those of other readers. Just to remind you the Indian Hockey Team is sponsored by Sahara India a large Indian corporate.

Media to blame
by Sohan Jha on Apr 13, 2009 08:53 AM  | Hide replies

It is sad to see that this news doesn't appearing as main headline, if it is cricket even Mr. Dhoni sneeze that vl be the headline on front page, but this is a hockey win mind u malasia is a very good hockey team n we have beat them twice, but no newspaper, tv, etc. vl show them as thier main news all of them r busy with IPL news or election news, its sad very sad, i m not against cricket which is also my favourate game, but other sports also deserve to me shown or written. 2-3 yrs back India was loosing in cricket from every team, but still it was headline, plz rememebr in hockey india is ranked 7th out of 30 countries which play hockey seriously, which is not with cricket where only 5-6 good teams.
your suggestion is welcome fellow reader.
Thanks
Sohan jha

I have seen this news with huge photo on the front page of Print edition of ToI Delhi with Team Captain Sandeep Singh kissing the cup.

Also, I found on the front page of Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, Delhi edition.

Its really heartening to see National Game coming on front page.

Shahrukh, where are you? Are you hearing this? You made a movie on hockey featuring the fairer S#x to make money, but rushed to cricket when it comes to sport in real life.

Corporates, are you listening? Indian hockey team has won 2 prestigious champioships in a year - Asia Cup and Azlan Shah cup. Your cricket team is yet to go beyond easy fixed bi-lateral matches.

This is good

news indeed! We're still smarting from the Olympics debacle where India failed to even qualify, and where an Indian won the first individual Gold medal (what an ironic twist, as all the team gold medals were won by the hockey team)! This should infuse some confidence into the players, and trust the team management will keep the team up to speed with more engagements and matches to keep up the tempo. Best wishes for the upcoming tournaments. We're rooting for you.

Indian Victory

Gr8 victory. Hope we advance to higher levels from here. Still lot to be done to beat Europeans and Aussies consistently. The real talent of hockey lies in tribal belt of Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and orrisa. If this young talent is captrured then indian hockey scene will change. there is not even a single ASTRO TURF in these states. Sports ministers are you listening..?

gr8 day for indian hockey. I hope we only advance to greater levels from here.Still a lot is needed to be done to beat Europeans and Australians regularly. The real talent of hockey in india is still untapped in tribal areas of chattisgarh, jharkhand and Orrisa. If this young talent is captured then indian hockey will regain lost glory.there is not even a single Astro turf in these states.Sports ministry are you with me..?
