by BrotherhoodofNod on Jul 18, 2008 12:20 PM  | Hide replies

It is indeed very sad to read the interview..
I love boxing...i watch it if i get a chance...
and just for this...
TODAY I WILL HATE CRICKET..AND I M AGAINST IT..
I think we have given way too much importance to cricket..
i mean we have a population of 1.1 billion..
and all the 1.1 billion is into cricket..
this is very sad for india..

and all the best to the boxers of our country..

PS: i dont like cricket anymore...its not a sport anymore..is just business...

Pugilist Akhil says GOLD MEDAL means my effort, any other means luck.
by Gulabjamun Bhujiya on Jul 18, 2008 12:20 PM

I saw a nicely packaged small programme on Akhil Kumar on DD Sports yesterday.

He is an amazing boxer. National Instt of Sports (NIS) Boxing Coach Mr.Sandhu who is also his coach (who has travelled with Indian boxing contingent 4 times as coach) was all praise for AKHIL. Even his team mate and friend Jitender (who has also qualified for Olympics this year) vouches for Akhil and says he learnt a lot from the great boxer AKHIL.

The clean shaved, muscular and fit AKHIL KUMAR was so confident and he really packed a punch when he spoke on TV yesterday. In a shining silver track suit Akhil looks like an astronaut boxing around and training very hard and sweating it out at NIS in Patiala.

"Pugilist Akhil says GOLD MEDAL means my effort, any other means luck". He oozed such confidence and has completely recuperated and recovered from his wrist inury/surgery and has beaten even Olympics Silver medallist.

Even his foreign Coach from Cuba is all praise for AKHIL.

He has killer looks and in his eyes is STRONG DETERMINATION.

He trains 6 hours daily for bringing India a medal at Olympics and even after that he doesnt take rest. He goes on boxing sand bags etc. Boxing is his passion and he wants to achieve for India.

Go Akhil go. India ka naam ROshan karo. Box your way to OLYMPIC GLORY. A nation of 1 billion is praying and supporting you.

Thanks DD Sports for the wonderful small programme capsules on India's Olympic participants.

Recently we celeberated 25 years of our Cricket world chapionship win. We will celeberate golden and platinum of lords win, as we are not going to win any world-cup cricket .Our captain prefers to cool and rest when it comes to playing for india not in IPL!! our students will still read about Milkha Singh PT Usha because we could not produce even 4th placed atheletes which ethopia and Kenya can do.

My best wishes are with him and sania, Mahesh-Lee, all shooters .I wil pray to the God for their success and celeberate more than you if they win, But we can not ignore pathetic sports environment in country to be positive when out shoters dont have consumables, Badminton camp called of as there were no shuttlecock.
Akhil can do best as he is most promising of all boxers.

AKHILesh ... your name also has AKHIL man. Atleast be proud of that aspect , if not anything else. Stop talking negative and unnecessary things and just watch AKHIL KUMAR and then you will be shocked that even INDIA can have such a great boxer. He is amazing and his left punches can rattle any high class boxer. Even foreign boxers have said "Oh 54 kg Indian ..Akhil ...he is too strong". They watch video tapes of our AKHIL to prepare and learn. AKHIL is too good even in his feet moments. In boxing its not just about hitting bang bang ... its also about escaping punches and avoiding getting hurt. You have to move your feet in time and watch out think the opponent. Modern boxing is not just about physique its also about mind. You have to outclass the other boxer by thinking faster than him within fractions of seconds. Because if you are even a second slow..a blistering JAB or a LEFT HOOK can leave you shattered. Its just 12 minutes you (3 minutes per round) have to show your class. Its all about SCORING POINTs and avoiding punches and also LANDING your PUNCHES on your opponent. Anything below waist is not counted. Before opponent bends or avoids your line of strike, you have to hit him on the head to score each point.

So please dont compare athletics and all that. WATCH AKHIL KUMAR Mr.AKHILesh. Cheer for him. He has beaten Olympics Silver medallist. Watch him properly. This deadly boxer has great mind and great skill.Yet he is so humble & God fearing. He wil win surely
