Factionalism

First it was Bhupathi and Paes now the other players with support from Bhupathi..Indian tennis requires a re jig and perhaps the best way is to ask all players to shape up or ship out. If each one has ego problem then the country's interests are under mined. If the junior players cant win playing ATP tournaments they should not behave as if they will win the Davis cup and that too as if only the captaincy is stopping them achieve greater heights!

by hardhitter hardhitter on Feb 24, 2008 07:01 PM  | Hide replies

Suddenly some people in Tennis fraternity realized India is progressing in Tennis Globally. Oh NO ! How can we let this happen? Start pull each others legs, lets create as much controversy as possible, lets vitiate the association with as much politics as possible, lets sabotage matches & Indian Tennis as much we can & then point fingers at Govt & whoever we feel fit.
Sania Mirza doesnt want to play in India. NOw there is revolt against Paes.
Well done fellow CRABS ! Lets next target Chess, Golf & shooting. Some buffoons making rapid progress in those sports in India. Hurry up guys.. Rathode, Anand, Jeev .... they are just sitting lame ducks waiting for us to be pulled down !!

I am not so sure about Paes, he seems to be the patriotic type and all that stuff; knows what's the right things to say. But I think he's behaving too big for his shoes and he's too autocratic. Its his ego?

Paes has already himself and has made the country proud time and again. The newcomers instead of getting petulant against the maestro, should do something phenomenal and prove their worth.

It is this regionalism that has spoiled sports in particular and generally the results of the idiotic politicians. Why should we play that? Chari.

We all are proud of Paes, but it is eqaually important for Paes to let the youngsters under him take some credit so that the future line-up is well groomed

Leander's contribution to indian tennis is unmatchable
by on Feb 24, 2008 04:47 PM

These junior players have not done any thing much so far and if at all they do not want to play they should be left out and new players brought in. For once let us all congratulate Leander for the various joys that he has given us in India which never was on the tennis map before him. It is sad that Bhupathi who also mainly grew in stature after playing along Leander paes is using opportunities to splash mud on him using these useless junior players

Dont support PAes blindly
by Tabassum Javed on Feb 24, 2008 04:42 PM  | Hide replies

I will reqyest all the readers here not to support Paes blindly.

Know the truth. Why will the Junior guys revolt. They already know what they are. Its the high handedness of Paes and his sheer behaviour which has pushed them to the wall and its coming out like this.

If Paes is good .... why dosent he play the best of the other team. Why does he always play the 2nd best. Indian Tennis should investigate this and if found true .... he should be the one excluded and also stripped off the captainship.

I believe you are writing based on the accusation thrown by Prakash Amritraj. He is an american citizen playing for India just for the sake that he would not find a place to represent America(shortcut to success). He must understand that it was Paes who had brought India glory in Davis cup and his singles won-loss record is among the best in the country which truly reflects the amount of patriotism and pride he has in representing his country.

You have to understand that he is playing the last singles for 2 reasons.
a) Winning the tie depends upon this crucial match.
b) As a captain, he is shouldering the burden and responsibility to bring laurels to the country.

He had played those matches only because the situation had warranted him to do it. It is all the handiwork of Mahesh Bhupathi who always has his business interests (Globosport) above the country.

Finally the truth is out
by Tabassum Javed on Feb 24, 2008 04:39 PM  | Hide replies

I seriously believe that Indian tennis can live without Paes.

The person always plays for himself and is very self centered.

I beleieve he should be dumped and pack his bags in the interest of the larger interest of the game of tennis.

More than that, I believe Tennis should be dumped from Indian Sport - nay, all other sports should be banned in India & Indian Sport should be focussed completetly on Cricket.
That too on how to stay permanently at the position behind Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe. Because many nations including China are fast developing themselves & will soon become Superpowers of Cricket. & India will keep going beloe n below.

Tabassum, did Paes jilt you years ago? Why this hatred to the man?
You clearly know nothing about Indian tennis. He has NEVER played for himself and ALWAYS for the country. Look at his Davis cup / Olympic records (country) and compare that to his ATP ranking history (self). I could never understand why he couldn't motivate himself to play well when he wasn't officially representing the country.

HERE ALLEGIANCE SPEAKS,NO BJECTIVITY IN DISCUSSION
by vinod on Feb 24, 2008 04:23 PM

Readers should know that whatever the junior players have complained can be verified throough investigation and required action could be taken instead of reacting emotionally. Each one of you may attack or defend senior players but we should also know that they too are humans.Let not our hidden allegiances based on region, caste, creed or religion rrule our minds to tarnish either of our great players.Paes and Bhupathi are icons in this country in Tennis.Any claim made by the junior players if without merit should be given due penalty and if there is substance the issue should be resolved amicably for the betterment of Indian Tennis. The news cited above is also in bad taste whoever reported it with no valid reference made by any of the players indicating Bhupathi's role.
