In that case India shoulds stop sponsoring Sania...
by Arya on Feb 06, 2008 01:14 AM  | Hide replies

I agree that Sania is a good player but if she is thinking not to play in India then she should be banned from all commercials she does in India as well as all the sponsorship money she receives from India... I would say if she has guts then stop playing as Indian representative in international arena... She knew this that if she leave Indian name in international arena nobody will even notice her.... She is still not a top class tennis player anyway....whaatever fame she has its coz of Indian people .. nobod recognize her in international arena....

The rule is simple if you want Sania to play in India let her play, and don't load her with all the law suits against her.
Let her concentrate on her game and not on fighting against the bureaucrats.
If she is making money from adverts and sponsorships so be it she deserves it.
A|s for international playing field she is the Indian representative.
We in foregin all recognizes her as Indian tennis embassy.
Of course we will miss her, who doesn't need a break. don't you get holidays.
She may not be the top seed but we have faith in her soon she will be.
If Sunita williams is the queen then Sania is no joker, for us she is the ACE.

Where were you when Mahesh & Paes splitted & said they wont play together for COUNTRY(I mean tournaments like Davis cup/Asian Games/Olympics where players truely represents country)???

This is an individual WTA compition.. legally she can say no & not even The President of India can force her -- by law!

Is that just because she gave true reason all this blow??

good qn.. when the male duo split nobody raised any stink... now when she has to fight her battles with crazy fundamentalists and silly petitioners no one comes to her support but instead have salvos... amritraj expressing shock now.. did he express support when a fatwa was issued by a silly mulla... no one has spine in asking the real qns or taking a stand against a force...

But she has no where else to play once she slides from her current rankings. Only Indian media built her up, despite repeated failures and not a single grand-slam "quarter final" to her credit.

Nothing to do with controversies

Sania is avoiding the tornament because William sisters are taking part and she knows that she will be thrashed. To save her face & pride she is not participating in the tournament

maybe.. but for a sportsperson to say that she's backing out cause of pressure created by media, critics n narrow minded people shows that she's already lost evn before losing to the william sisters

so now will she announce that she'll stop playing in india forever.?

come on..
by arun premraj on Feb 05, 2008 11:48 PM  | Hide replies

Well.. controversies won't end .. the flag controversy happened in australia.. so will she quit playing abroad too...
i think the best way to answer all this is to win.. or play well..
Agreed she'll be beaten by venus or serena in the bangalore open n again be out .. but if she spoke out against this issue n went on to play .she'll gain much more respect...
As it is.. for a player.. they have to pull out when they have injuries..
players play on even if there is a death in the family... so sania.. rise above these things.. its a part of being famous.. in our country..
then many female celebrities would have to opt out.. of their careers if they thought like u..

its much tougher being a lone celebrity in our country. cause one becomes the only object of the media... and is virtually under a microscope ..
She may even get beaten in the first round if she plays in bangalore open.. n face more harsh comments.. but then.. in a sport.. only ur physical fitness should stop u.. n nothing else..
her inability to handle this pressure is the reason she can't win big matches... she can't rise to the next level cause she can't handle pressure of big matches also..
one should learn from james blake's comeback..

u can't change anyone around u... will people change, media or critics change? people will still comment on her skirt length, religiion, ranking, performance ,etc.. n still file stupid cases..
Its sania who has to change her mindset..only then will she win the mental battle .. now n in big matches also..

you are right about most points you make.. but doing them or even saying them under the circumstances under she is in is extremely difficult.. do you know how many forces are acting against her? You will be absolutely right if and when we find out that zpm5rthe 'controversy' was just an excuse to demand higher pay from the KSLTA...

Our stupid news channels love making a mountain out of a molehill, creating news where there is nothing newsworthy, creating controversies where none need exist.

Ok so Sania Mirza does not want to play in the Bangalore Open because of all the controversies that take place each time she plays in India. Fine, respect her decision and let it be - she needs to recover her frame of mind to play good tennis.

But no you do not want her to play good tennis because that is not good news is it. Instead creating a controversy and getting various idiots to speak on TV makes good news right?

Well as a fan of sport I have done the best thing I can possibly do in the past two days since Sania announced her decision - I have switched off from watching news channels!!

Indian news channels kindly note that you are losing viewers by chasing imaginary controversy.

The funny thing I noticed is the aping of foreign TV media, by sending reporters to provide "live coverage" of a spot. Dead pan faces and cliched languages, these apes cannot make an honest day's living without this yellow journalism.

Indian Media is dominated by Marxists who want to level and erode any peak they see.
What you are seeing is typical Marxist response
to Sania.
Many people in our media simply deserve to be fired from their jobs.

Irresponsible !

We support your decision
by Antistupidity on Feb 05, 2008 11:03 PM

Dear Sania,

This is to let you know that there are a whole lot of your fans in Bangalore who whole-heartedly support your decision to withdraw from the Bangalore Open.

Your stand is very valid and we are fully behind you in this. Those who are now opposing this decision of yours can instead go fight the stupid cases brought against you by various people seeking publicity at your expense. Let there neo-critics vacate the cases brought against you then they have the right to talk.

It is a great decision on your part and we your fans respect the same. Let us hope that these stupid controversies do not come up, leaving you to be able to play your game in peace.

Once again, all the best and we'd like you to know that you have all the support of your fans.
