i am sick of seeing politicians and officials seek glory instead of athletes

saw how that idiotic sardarji official was disturbing jitender kumar during his bout and not allowing cuban coach to give him live strategy feed. thankfully, vijender's coach was allowed to give him tips during the bout itself. idiot sardardji official stole away chances of another medal for india. also i am sick of how indian politicians and other officials are trying tot ake the credit when it should only be the athletes who got their due.

What nonsense you are talking man ? Nobody stole any chance for another medal for India. VIJENDER is in Semifinal's and he is already assured of a bronze. If he wins tommorow he is assured of a Silver atleast and if he packs a punch in the Final and outpunches the final opponent he will stand with Abhinav Bindra on same GOLDEN pedestal when he reaches India.

So wake up from your hangover and smell the coffee. Nobody stole any chance of medal. Somebody stole your mind.. This is what too much of alchohol does to you :-)

u idiot did u at all comprehend my message? first learn simple english before u blabber nonsense. i said it was jitender kumar who was not allowed to get tips from his coach during the game due to idiotic official's interference. thankfully that didn't happen during vijender's match and thats why he won.
people like u are blots on sensible debate as u can't even understand simple english that is being said.

u moron, whatever be the case, he was interfering with the international coach giving the tips. if GS Sandhu can do it himself, why even hire international coach? He was clearly blocking the cuban from giving jitender tips. I guess u are of the same idiotic thinking as that sardarji. block others and try to get credit for hard work others have put in. no wonder india sucks in many fields because of stupid indians like u...

We all Indian are immensely proud of Sushil...More because of the very modest background he had come from & yet the strong grit shown to make all of us so happy, indeed. I saw the place he lived in Delhi (in a news channel) since last 15 year since he was taking training...a small dingy dormatory room where 4 persons used to stay in the most modest way (it shows the economic adversity he was stryglling with!!!) & yet reaching to that coveted sopt!! A great heroic feat indeed after all these hardship!!! Sushil, you are one of most gifted child of Mother India & we all are proud of you...Go on with this vigour & one day surely you would seat above everybody!!!

My Dear Friend "Indian" - It gives me immense pride that somebody reckon his identity by such a powerful name like "Indian". But, your comments do not reflect that you strongly feel proud of an India that spans from Kashmir to Kanyakumari!!! My humble request to you - please do not create cultural & regional divide by making such ordinary comments!!! By the way, I am not from South, I am only an Indian from the proud middle class mass & I love all my fellow Indian brothers and sisters...It is my only identity...Jai Hind

Dear Indian....why dont you change your name to North Indian ? First there was that other idiot on rediff who used to talk of his NEW country called SOUTH INDIA just like saying SOUTH KOREA. Now you are from another new country called NORTH INDIA.

By the way ...can you please say why only people from South India are dominating & winning in Chess all the Grandmaster titles etc.

Simple man.. GOD made INDIA a beautifully balanced country. We Idli Sambar guys (including me) are brainy and you Northies up there are brawny. This is what makes India so strong. We have STRENGTH up North and BRAINs down south. Thats why Bangalore is also IT Capital of India and 2nd biggest Software city in world after California

The reason why India is struggling for a single medal at Olympics is because we are a nation always saying North South East West and not UNITED like UNITED States of America. I am waiting for the day when our country becomes UNITED States of India (USI) or United Indian States(UIS).

By the way Rajni Sir is originally not a South Indian...Who told you so ? He is a Maharashtrain guy whose real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and he was born to Marathi parents.

He got good opportunity in South India to act in films so he changed his name to RAJNIKANTH for movies sake and almost became a Tamilian and a Tamil superstar now.

most talented software professionals in bangalore are from around india...not specifically south india. some of the best performing guys are from north only. vinod dham the pentium designer is from delhi, sabeer bhatia the hotmail founder also a north indian so to speak. it just happens that medal winners in present olympics happen to be from north. but that dosen't discount the efforts made by sportsmen from the south. anyway, its stupid to label achievements as from north or south. it leads to stereotyping which is the biggest flawed theory in the universe.

Yes you are right. Finally you got it. Problem with India is we have very poor memory. Have you forgotten the SYDNEY 2000 OLYMPICS already ?

Who saved a population of a billion from sporting disgrace. It was KARNAM MALLESHWARI a South Indian woman from AP state. Our total medals tally was 1 BRONZE in that Olympics. If she had not won for us we would have not even been shown on the Medals tally.

So many strong Sardars, Haryanvis and men with big moustaches & muscles from India - we are a billion on this planet and Sydney Olympics 2000 shame was avoided by a WOMAN from Southern state of India who lifted nearly 136 kgs almost the weight of a refrigerator on her head to WIN bronze from India while all the strong men of North India merely watched that time.

Better support INDIA always. Anyone from any state can win any medal for us. Dont divide the country as North South. Remember that on everybody's passport its written Republic of India. not North or South India. Lets be UNITED always .JAI HIND

Dear Vinayaka - I do not understand as to why you are presenting statistics on the past deeds of either south or north Indian people when such a concept does not exist in the perspective of our rich Indian culture. If you start presenting facts on the regional basis, it would again create divide. It is not also desireable at all to make comments like south Indians are known for brain & north Indians are known for strength. If you comment like this, it amounts to humiliate the other & we as a nation should go beyond making such statements...Everybody irrespective of the regions in India have brains & strength...We all can do it & we must help each other to get the best out of us as a nation...My humble request - please desist yourself from making comments that may hurt the sentiment of others & our national integrity comes under any jeopardy...Jai Hind

Thanks for your sentiments being a very proud Indian, indeed. Believe me, I read all your comments befor writing something particularly directed at your end. Infact, I was very happy that you had come up with the strong assertion that we are united India when a so called "Indian" was propagating some baseless North & South theories. That is why I wrote back to you when the discussion was taking a different turn. My only assertion was to tell you that let somebody else evoke the argument from a baseless perspective that would harm our national integrity, but we should never present some statistics to counter that lest that baseless theory may unintentionally get more focus. I did not anyway mean that your feelings toward our loving country is anyway less than other. I deeply apologise, in case I have sounded like that - but my intention was to request you to stop giving statistics that would create divide amongst us...Thanks for your reply...Jai Hind

Sorry Sumit. What you have been telling is exactly what I have been saying.I never brought up this North SOuth thing. It was one blogger called INDIAN who started this....and I merely responded to it. INFACT if you read my previous message fully and carefully till the end you will see that I am advocating for UNITED India and just saying that we have different strengths in different regions and all of INDIA is so beautiful and each region has its own contributions to our GREAT UNITED country. I am saying that we have to be UNITED. I was amongst many Hyderabadis waving INDIA flag at Airport and welcoming Saina Nehwal when she returned from Beijing (who lives in my city Hyderabad) although she is a Punjabi (not a Southie like me) who is settled here in my city due to excellent badminton infrastructure and a worldclass badmninton academy here.

I support INDIA my country always boss. Look at all my message before also..I have always supported India and I have autographs of all the hockey playes the great Sardars of Indian hockey when they came to Hyderabad and played in Afro Asian Games and also Jr. Asia cup hosted here. Jai Hind !!

u idiot vinayaka, ur the mirror image of that indian...if he boasts of north indians, u do the same of south indians...u are stereotyping and literally hitting ur point on others's ears that karnam malleshwari was a southie....anyways just for ur info, not that i want to create a divide again like these fools, karnam was fully trained in haryana...and her coach was her husband who is incidentally from haryana itself..now she stays happily in haryana with her husband...so stop this stupid stereotyping and start accepting india as one.

Triumph of Determination!!
by Sumit Deb on Aug 21, 2008 11:06 AM  | Hide replies

It is being said that the true colours of India resides in her villages. We have lots and lots talented merits in our villages, but most of time we choose a safer path to ensure two square meals instead of pursuing fields of our talents. It is quite justified too, since we do not have a very strong social security system ensured by our government. But, the truimph of Sushil & Vijender is actually a victory of our masses. They both come from very modest background (both of their fathers are driver), yet they valiantly pursued their cherished dream amidst all odds!!! These success stories should inspire million of our talented brothers living in villages & small towns to come forward and chase their cherished dreams...As a result of this, I am sure, India a few years later from now would not anymore celebrate every medals (in olympic) but would look for nothing but remaining at the top of medal tally. Congrats to our bravehearted hero's of today to inspire your million of your younger brothers & creating an platform for resurgenge...Jai Hind

Its the environment which matters!

Till today, how many of common people like us were really interested in seeing Olympics broadcast or news. Now only when Bindra has got a gold, Sushil a bronze and Vijender will surely come with one medal, we are getting attracted towards Olympics. A positive atmosphere is getting created in the country.

Why cricket is successful in the country. Because we all watch it, appreciate our players and as a result they earn like hell.

So, it is up to us that we watch and appreciate athletics too, than more medals will be won in next Olympics.

Cricketers earning get high only after Kapil Dev bring Worldcup to India.. before that everyone know their pay scale.. they hav to join some company as employee for regular income source. Even pension to retired players started just few years back. BCCI start heavy earning only after successive winning performance given by CKT team wcup in 83, asia cup 84, mini worldcup in Ausi 85 and many more followed by.
Again in Olympic Milkha Singh, P.T.Usha, Saini Ebrahim also given some hope in athletic events. Even they r not able to bring medals ppl appreciated their perfomance and afforts.
Fans of Hockey coverted to cricket fan due to winning perfomance of ckt team and loosing perfomance of hocky team.
SO cricket is not success bcos ppl watching it... but as ckt team gives winning perfomance ppl is like to watch it.. as no one like to see loosing perfomance.
