It was a very unfortunate that Rajiv Tomar with whom we had high hopes to qualify & win some medal had lost in 129 kg.free style wrestling to American wrestler Steve Mocco of Unites States in Qualification round on the Thursday, the 21st of Aug.2008 at Beijing Olympics-2008.Well, we can only say that it was Tamar’s hard luck. We must admit very frankly that the performance of wrestler Steve Mocco. Let was far superior to Tomar.Any way, let Tomar not be disheartened as this failure may lead him to grand success in international games ahead provided he puts his heart & soul in wrestling & continue his constant practice under a good coach of international repute!

Wait Bishwa....dont say anything yet. He is still a MEDAL hope. He can try for BRONZE by means of REPECHAGE (just like Sushil Kumar yesterday) incase its porved that he lost to worthy winnner Steve Rocco that is if Steve Rocco wins further and reaches Finals. But even in that case for RAJIV TOMER chances are very very less as he has to not only depend on Steve but also battle hard and win all his repechage rounds and also beat losing Semifinalist to get a bronze. He has to REPEAT Sushil's performance yesterday and he may still win a bronze. First we have to pray that Steve Rocco of USA reaches Finals so that Rajiv Tomer atleast gets a chance.

Wonder why rediff repeats its mistakes again and again. Yesterday also it reported that SUSHIL KUMAR bows out. Request rediff to report results of the matches only after its FINALLY confirmed. Sushil didnt bow out ...but he bowed to receive Bronze medal later by excellent fights. Sports reporters must have good knowledge of Olympic sports rules before wrongly reporting like this.

So lets wait and watch. Who knows Rajiv may still try and win a bronze if he fights hard and REPECHAGE luck favours him.

What wrestlers and boxers has done in Beijing is commendable. Atleast they have forced every sports lovers and sponsoring corporates to look beyond cricket. Now corporates should start investing in other sports which has global presence. Nothing against cricket, its a game played in erstwhile British colonies, which is dying even in its place of origin. Let the average cricketers and their (mis)administrators do something else for livelihood instead of wasting huge amount of national resources and time.
This olympics has definitely proved that India has talent of International Class. With proper backing especially from corporate private sector Indian sports can reach top of the world. Lets not depend and blame the Government to do something which they have not done in 61 yeras.

Why the hell everyone criticise Cricket when they refer to other games. The amount of popularity and money attracted by the cricket has made many of us jealous about the game. Cricket is a game played and enjoyed accross the Country by millions of youngsters. No other game would stand before the game when popularity is taken in to account. Those who hate cricket please keep away from this gentlemen game and concentrate on any game they like but leave cricket to those who enjoy it. Can't they keep their views without mention of cricket?

Because cricket has been over publisized, over funded affecting other more deserving games

How medal is fixed for Rajinder in boxing when he has entered into semi final only. Two semi finals, four candidates, three medals. Rajinder could be fourth. - EIL

In contact sports like Boxing, Judo etc since there are too many categories, Olympic authorities dont conduct play off matches for 3rd position for all the categories. Thats why for all contact sports (unlike other sports) there are 2 bronze medal winners. Hope this clarifies.

Izaz I know what is in ur mind. Don't think too much if you don't know the rule. You will be disappointed as dear Vijender (not Rajinder) has already in race for Gold but Bronze is guranteed for him.

Winning habit helps making failure not an option
by Secular India on Aug 21, 2008 09:35 AM

instills pressure on every athlete - that they have to get the medal else they are failures. this is what what should motivate our sportspersons. They are in the games to win and not participate. Winning is everything. There are no marks for trying. Losers talk of trying, winners get the medals.
