India's medal quota is achieved
by sudarshan chat on Aug 16, 2008 05:45 PM

Bindra relieved the rest of the contingent off the medal pressure by winning at the outset of the Games. Most of the remaining squad will now make merry at Govt's cost

I can also win medal provided government give me some world class infrastructure, job security to me and social security to my family. I will go and collect all medals be it gold, silver, bronze or tin. Problem is that just by eating samosa or bred pakora after training, you cannot produce world class sportsman. Long ago, I saw a news on one of the new channel. The clipping showed some kids outside the National Stadium in Delhi. The kids were waiting for the bred pakoras being prepared next to them. On being asked what are they doing here, kids told that they just came out after finishing their training and now they are waiting for the bred pakora as this is the only refreshment they are entitled as per their training schedule. Just by eating Bred pakoras, how we are supposed to produce character like US swimmer who won 11 gold alone in just 2 olympics which entire india could not won in so many olympics.

u have valid points but it takes more than infrastructre and facililites to produce world class athletes..read phleps interviews .. he has confessed in his autobiography that, before athens olympics he did not take more than 4 offs in 4 years!! thats the committment which set one above others! do u think, other athelets mainly Indian, can show such dedication for a long time? aussie swimmer rice who is more attcative and glamarous than our sania has a vigourous and gruelling taining session!she has alreday won 3 gold medals in beijing!!

Anjali = Flat track Bully of Indian sports!
by sandeep kumar on Aug 14, 2008 01:34 PM

Asian medals against philipines, vietnam etc? Or some commonwealth medals against 3rd string uk teams? Even I can win medals by aiming a gun against target and against weak competition. She is "a flat track bully". Sania has to regularly play against top players all over the world...she is injured yet she gave her best shot. Also others.Like S
Sachin 114 in perth wicket.
Bhajji 32 wkts against aussies.
Sreesanth bowling wanderers 2006
Anju gorge..world champions bronze

The above people are true heros in Indian sports, with the passion shown by bhajji n sreesanth the real aggresive face of new India.
Anjali is overrated to the core! retire lady plzz

it would be like this....
by sanjeev sharma on Aug 14, 2008 01:30 PM

it would be like this till radical reforms are not done in sports administration and management in this country. Bindra won gold , thanks to his foresight that he chose to practise outside the country. We have talent, we have many corporates to come forward, but, sports needs to be independent of govt authorities. This is just one of these un-important departments of govt whose performance they dont have to account for..

Abuse
by debjyoti chatterjee on Aug 14, 2008 01:22 PM

Why friends why?Why are you abusing my athletics? What you did for this country? Atleast they are trying to achieve something. What infrastructure have our govt provided to them? What facilities have they been given? Most of them don't have good coaches, no proteinous food and no job security.I met so many such individuals who are willing to do something but unfortunately they couldn't because of lack of basic infrastructure.Think before you abuse anyone. They too want to prove their worth as all of us do to make our motherland proud for whatever we do.How many of us could think of making a career option with sports.Except cricket no one bother to watch any other game.We need to abuse ourselves for not showing our enthusiasm by going to the field and cheer them.Hope someday things may change and we could also produce players with international caliber.Jai Bharat!!!

Why abuse past performers?
by bharat on Aug 14, 2008 01:07 PM  | Hide replies

Anjali Bhagwat may not have done well in the olypmpics but she does have credentials and has done well in the past. Before abusing her, why don't you abuse all those numerous Indian players who managed to get into the olympic team without having any decent past showing at the international level and returned with a listless performance?

Players like Anjali or Sania had atleast done enough to give us some hope. There are other undeserving participants who have poorer showing at international level but escape wrath of the fans because they never did anything in their career to catch attention!

What can we expect with these sportspeople when the state ( India) hardly ever takes interest apart from Cricket...

Olympics is not the final month preparation .. It is a 4 year long preparation ... So as we have our country so we have the peoples and so the Sportpeoples
