YOUR WIN IS THE REAL WIN FOR INDIA AS IT IS A GAME INVOLVING INTELLIGENCE, HARDWORK AND PERSEVERANCE.
The statement regarding the reception might be made by Anand or by media, but Anand deserves a grand welcome. Chess might not be as famous as Cricket in India but it has its own share.
If there is any chess lover please request your friend or relative who can present at the airport and share their happiness then that would be great. That is how we can promote the game and show our respect.
Cricket did not pull these many people on day one. It started with a small group of people and then it grew.
I think even the people who are sharing these views will make a substantial group to welcome an achiever.

Anand is always 'Great' since many years. He must be given 'Heroes' welcome when he lends. But I know there will be less people to welcome him compared to 'cricket'. as cricket creates more hype and revenues for all. At least Government should not discriminate when he lends. Media also must see that he gets total coverage.
Chess is a gentle mans game.So not many people in India adore it...Just kidding.
Yes ! as every one said don't expect a grand welcome like cricket. Even street player can comment on national team. But they dare comment so about Chess GMs.
Be happy that yu r in a decent profession.And kindly help other upcoming GMs of Inida like Harikrishna, Hampi ( Financially as well)

You must be an fanatic tamilian exhibiting loads of regionalism.!!! Nothing can be said to people who are prejudiced. Why does the thought come to that Hampi & Harikrishna are AP first. I see them as INDIAN first. the same way I am proud of Anand. So you better keep off from this board!!
Congrats Anand for the great vicory..but dont expect grand welcome as cricketers. And nothing wrong in that.. Indians don't burn your effigies or break your house when you loose so they wont make a big deal of your victory also..But you have really inspired a generation to take chess seriously

don't think of much, play like king in future as well, people are crazy here in india....they give such a grand welcome because they find this game (cricket)which they can play,chess (that you play)is not every one's game nor every one can able to play,In cricket every one think himself a best player of the game or the best who understand the game,so be care free !! for rest of the people u r the real champion & the most consistent, u ,sachin,lata & amitabh are the best ever produced in this soil ,always world class !! for this we r proud of you ...

people from other sports should be ready to receive brickbats as well, as cricketers are prone to when they are not performing well.So it is as simple as that regarding reception to cricketers.
