Better boycut than hunger strike

Its better the Hockey player stop going to any event say Asia cup or Olympic it they are not treated well.
Out government don't know the value of the difference between winning one bronze medal in Olympic has better value than hitting 6 six in one over. While the former get hardly anything the later gets one core for it. What a joke...

"olympics is just as rotten as ur mind . it was started by rich nation to flaunt there money n wealth. It is highly boring n totally waste . We donot need gold winners in olympics we need world cup winner in cricket only ."

--This kind of people's attitude only harming the existence of other sports in India.

Orphaned hockey stars
by Arun Nair on Sep 27, 2007 09:15 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Joaquim, Adrian and all other worthy hockey stars...
What else can you expect from a bunch of politicians in a nation that has managed to murder the national game to shame? The status of national game ensures that the game and its administrators are well taken care of by government funding. We are still stuck with the Raj euphoria. The political circles have made sure that the federation of Indian hockey will forever remain in the dark alleys of the sports arena's of the world. They have no national pride in your achievements. It is sad, of course, but all the said and done, what can you do when you have politicians around who are in the business of leadership only where the money is? National pride???? Forget it, boys. It is only you guys, when you take the field to play this game, have national pride in mind always. The politicians are there where the lucre is. I am sure that many hockey fans are with you in your predicament. I for one, has done a silent protest by refusing to watch the euphoric celebrations on the streets and all over, and the grand welcome given to the cricketer's on the news channels. I support your hunger strike and shall be there, if I can, to join you in this novel protest. The national game is also my personal pride. Like it is for all Indians. Keep it up guys. Your day will come. It has to. You cannot be neglected for long. For the moment forget the corporate sector too. Sahara and such sponsors have short term goals, and do not look ahead.

Hi Arun,

I totally agree with you.

I think cricket will lose its shine, say in another 5 to 6 years. Fast games like hockey, football, volleyball and basketball will be preferred over cricket, as happened in west Indies. West Indies cricket has lost their good heighted people to some of the above sports. The same will happen to India one day. Eagerly waiting for that day to come.

all said and done cricket is palyed seriously by only 8-10 nations. Except for australia and englan these nations do not get even a single olympic medel. cricketers cannot be termed "world champions" in its true spirit. success in cricket will not give india a good place among world sport fans.

india, srilanka, pakistan and bangladest will do good till good sporting nations like china, kores, us, germany takes up cricket.

where is the BJP?
by anzar shennatt on Sep 27, 2007 09:02 AM

BJP and other sangh parivar outfits always mak a hue and cry abt nationalism. Are they also cricket fans and dont support the national game .I also feel hockey needs to be given due respect. He requires much more skill and stamina than cricket. Why the indian players wer not fined for their poor performance in world cup .Then wat is the logic behind announcing the rewards.
Kerala FM says everyday kerala runs on overdraft still he announces 5 lakhs for sreesanth.
Vilasrao deshmukh blames the vidhabha farmers and ignores them while he announces 10 lakhs for the cricket players.
The cricketes are already rich.
Govt dont have to give gifts to them. These politicians will never change

guys like kpsgill should go for starters
by ashok pai on Sep 27, 2007 03:52 AM  | Hide replies

kpsgill doesnt own hockey, just like dalmiya he should be kicked too. but that position shouldnt be occupied someone like pawar again.

hockey has to re-invent itself. stars should be promoted, and PHL should be encouraged. we are a one sport nation, time to chanege it.

I do understand(and respect) the mind-state hockey players are going through. But here are few pointers for supporting cricket rewards:

- In 1 bn society, most of us have association with cricket. Most of us want to be a professional cricketer, hence competition is really really high. Shouldn't this be expected that the handful highly skilled players (who have put that much effort, playing from 5am to 11pm, to cut-through-the-crowd) be payed well enough?

- We all watch cricket, the only return we get back from the sports is emotional, i.e. INDIA WON! Don't you ppl think, making 1 billion population happy is worth more than sweeping 50 million hockey spactators off their feet?

Though, I feel it is totally ridiculous for gov to offer Rs 1000/goal for entire team!! I am sure they deserve way more to the effort they put.

- the reading is on the wall, despite what the media might think, the public are disillusioned after the worldcup. the 20-20 was good, but another series loss against aussies will get people back to the disillusionment. people are getting wiser, if they arent winning, the tide will keep moving the other direction, time for other sports to tap it

competition may b high in cricket at local level but at the international level hockey is 10 times competitive than cricket... also in india, thr is lot of scope, support and money in cricket as compared to hockey... so its 100 times tougher to bring lorals in hockey!

so, u r giving lame excuse as making 1 billion population happy.... then all these cricketers shud b hang till death for giving sorrow to 1 billion people for last 24 yrs!

We love anything connected to India.Just think mite be wishfull thinking but nevertheless think about India playing Brazil in WC final.Wherever the no of countries increase India Mucks up. When we won glory in hockey during the olden days European countries were picking up the sport . nOw look where we are. even in football we reach the olympics in the 50's but lack of support and lack of killer instinct finishes us. If cricket is taken up seriously by Germany brazil netherlands and china india wont even qualify. These bunch of jokers with ferraris and porsches will go and get their asses kicked and come back. At least the hockey team qualifies for the olympic games

Sad State of Affairs!
by Shvet on Sep 27, 2007 01:22 AM  | Hide replies

I had watched the Asia Cup and the Indians played wonderfully! Especially the finals. But the govts. decided to felicitate and enrich the already cash-rich cricketers. On the other hand the hockey players remain impoverished...both in terms of money and recognition. Totally unfair!! And Mr. Shahrukh Khan makes a film on hockey..makes money out of it...but reaches South Africa to cheer the cricketers but cudn't reach Chennai to cheer the hockey players! Sad!

yeah, shahrukh's a hypocrite anyway, all the biggie wiggies want to be seen i nthe cricket stands anyways. if only these biggies realised they'd have got a great publicity in an emerging sports. other sports ARE getting attetion these days. it will need the media to project other games. right now they too are for the indian democracy. go with the votes, go with the tide.

Awards & Indian sports
by Murugan on Sep 27, 2007 12:44 AM  | Hide replies

In India , sport means Cricket. All the channels , news papers (media as whole) , politicians ( gamblers) , other state goverments (just for poor publicity) only support Cricket or cricketers. Then how can India get medals in olympics. We are one billion ( who knows now it might be 1.3 billions) poeple but no medal in most of the olympic games except one or two bronze medals.

Its shame to talk but the way Hockey Federation Cheif (Gill) anounced Rs1000 rupees for one goal (That's for entire team has to share) for the Asia cup series. They have to play 10000 games against Thailand or srilanka only to earn some decent money to lead a life. This Rs1000 is not enough to travel to Hockey stadium to Chennai Airport. Its ridicular.

No one against cricket, I watch cricket but I like other sports too. Why these marons are offering good money for cricketers only.

God save Indian sportpersons (except cricketers) & save sports as a whole.

When will we win gold medals in Olympic? year 2020 or 20000 ???????

are the politicians even bothered ?
are we citizens even bothered about sports ? we want out children to grow and be an engineer and doctor, until that mentality goes, we'll never produce a gold medal. there's no dignity in labour either, our feudal mentality exists in job scene, while its okay to be a cricketer at the national level that too earning a lot of money, being a ranji player sucks for the feudal lords (most of india). there's the ICl luckily, which has moved bcci to reward ranji players too. there's rot all over, but basically the blame lies at our doorstep.

why u r jealous of olympics, its bcoz cricket is not getting place in it even after begging for last so many years...

fyi, cricket is waste of time, and money..

see, china have good name in sports.. do we indians have any name in sports..

we indians, usually take e.g. of china when it comes to sports... did any chinese ever refer india for sports.. lol

so, we need to make us better.. rather than saying olympic is bad bcoz we r not as talented to bring medals in olympics..

and fyi, cricket is a sluggish sports, played actively in hardly 3-4 nation.. bcoz its toooo boring for the world.. so, now they reduce the overs to 20.. but still no competition with power sports like football, tennis, basketball...
