Hocky requires more physical effort than stupid cricketers..Those who know abt sports
No doubt Hockey has also not achieved much last few years bcoz of the petty politics..but at least look at the right reasons how much money is spent and how much effort is made by govt or anyone..

Hockey is National game..those who dont know abt it...probly just need to stop writing on such forums as they hv no knowledge abt sports and just worship their so called GODs of cricket..
Hockey and any other games..players earn very less money compared to cricket..
and most importatnly Players play for pride, for the passion of game and for INDIA not like cricketers play for BCCI and their money and the way they worship the board so they can stay in team or keep making money..

Bravo! This is an opportunity for the sports lovers of India to at least bring field hockey on equal pedestal with cricket. The raw power and majestic grace of hockey is to be experienced to be believed. Let us not be slaves of glamour & hype associated only with cricket. Imagine a scenario. Do we or should we show prefernce to the Army, Navy or the Air force in our admiration and pride. Similarly, be it cricket or hockey - our sportspersons out there are soldiers of peace and their endeavour is to raise the honour of India in the international arena. So instead of granting second grade status to the hockey warriors, let us show them the support and pride of being OUR INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM.

All u guys, fighting just because u r cricket fanatics, u guys r ignoring the fact dat in both cricket and hockey(along with many other sports), Australia simply rules.
Why?
its simple, in Australia Ponting is not a god, like Tendulkar
Aussies take exery sport seriously, and media gives equal attention to all the sports. For Aussies, the biggest passion is FOOTY(Aussie Rules,) of which many of u will be quite ignorant. Even then they r kings of cricket, hockey, swimming, soccer(they beat japan, croatia in world cup). Think on ur own, abt the reason for dat.
Come on ppl, atleast Indian Hockey Team has achieved something, if u can't admire dat, just keep ur bloody mouth shut. Stop whinging and stop this cat-fight.
Good Work Guys, Keep It Up!!!

u idiot..dont celebrate anything.our loser hockey team lost to Malaysia. Malasia in hockey is nothing but like bangladesh in cricket.Shame on the Indian Hockey team!!
Ashlansha tournament is neither World cup nor Olympics or not even asian games.Indian cricket team has won more no of cups in such tournaments not like the Indian Hockey team which got only Bronze. If they were beaten by any other better team then it would have been pardonable but they were kicked out by the minnows Malaysia.SHAME ON THEM!!

These cricket lovers do not know what physcial sport is! It means playing against men and not waiting for the ball to come to and hit like cricket, hockey is played with a narrow stick and not like a broad bat, you have to know to dribble the ball and run with ball. My friends who think hockey is just a play can ask any cricket player to compete with hockey player to see who is the fittest. In hockey you will not find player with belly like Sachin or so many else.So please do not underestimate hockey it is one of the toughest pysical games.

undertaker and agniputran are both typical cricket fanatics. instead of applauding a fine performance by the team which is but a small step in the right direction they go about criticising it. looks like they dont follow the sport at all. malaysian team can be compared to the sri lankan team which was bad at one time but have taken giant strides in recent times. india lost to australia by a goal and to malaysia 2-1. so its not a spineless performance. this trophy has been played for 16 years and it has quite a reputation now. well done boys and keep it up. now if only kps gill resigns that will give everyone a huge boost.

Ganesh Rajmohan, do not make statements which are not based on facts!! As for my understanding of the game of hockey, well i would not even get into that cos you will beat a hasty retreat!!
suffice to say, i can reel of the performance of Indian hockey in any major tournament (Olympics, WC and champions trophy) of the last 30 years!! So chill!!
and about Azlan shah being a major tournament, all i can say is that you are ill-informed!!
the absence of Germany, Holland, spain and Britain should open your eyes!! Otherwise the fact that most teams fielded their second string should make you realize what i'am saying!!

Malaysia is not a major hockey power, though they are surely better than India!!

the media hype has resulted in a big nosedive to cricket.Better the media keep away from hockey. At the sametime the people of India should lend support and encouragement to the team to do better in the coming years.Let us not bank on olders as you see how younsters are delivering. No regrets we r 3rd placed. That means we r proving ourselves to reach greater heights..That day is not faroff.Better propple of India get it os the sorrow thru cricket and limp back to feel happy with hockey.I wish the hockey boys od speed in their endeavours.

by potnuru kumar on May 13, 2007 06:49 PM  | Hide replies

for all the Tom dick and Harry's....this is a young team with 6 of the seasonal players missing in the line up.but still performed very well though they could easily have been in the final....IHF has to groom these youngsters and give them all teh support to make it india a formidable force in the world again.....
one has to confess that the game is not suited for skilful and less paced indians but they are on the learning curve....support them if u r a true sports lover...and don't bark just like that.
