mr. mehta,

this what happens when you start doing something in the middle of the night. Wake up man from your sleep and write constructive criticism and not filthy abuses as you have done - hope next time onwards before starting to comment, you will not only think twice but at least 200 times before saying bad about fellow Indians !!

Hockey Or Cricket
by atul langer on May 12, 2007 01:47 AM  | Hide replies

Find all the possible reasons, excuses... We just do not have the temperament or the skill to win matches. Its pathetic. Sports shud take a backseat now. Hockey our national sport, and cricket which is taken as our religion, we cant make any inroads.... No point. Sports should not be given any priority and should be taken off our radar. We are incompetent for whatever reasons.

if u r talking abt cricket, i can understand. media, public, govt everyone have wasted so much money, time & energy in the sluggish sports cricket but in return we got nothing.

but in hockey, what we have done other than criticizing our team. did media, public or govt give any kinda support to hockey. no, not at all. so u have no right to criticize them.

they played very well and reach semis. isnt it good. and against malaysia also they dominate the field but unfortunately cant convert it into goal. and lost just by one goal.

remember this time we r above pakistan. this time we reach semis, next time we will reach final. we shud keep patience, victory doesn't come overnight. it takes time...

rather than motivating our team u r demolarising them

Yes..it takes time.. since 70s it is taking time and we have to wait anothe one centuary when u will find our Hockey team in Final and that to in Azlan Shah hockey where European nationa are not playing... Hockey has got enough money being a national sport and govt has taken right decision by reducing funds to it...because since last three decades we are getting humiliated by our National game at the international stage...

vijay, indians r only waiting for our team to perform. but unfortunately, 99% of us dont do anything for our nat' game other than criticising.

its the hard work of very few people that still india have some name in hockey in da world.

or ur kind info, thr is no support frm govt, media and public for indian hockey.

govt could have done lot for hockey but they never did anything.

its our nat' game and more than 80% public have never played it. its really very shameful.

when someone cant able to sing nat' song, we raise an issue but if some1 cant play hockey it doesn't matter. why this discrimination?

we ourselves r responsible for the poor condition of india in hockey.

Problem with Indian hockey
by jaikishen sony on May 11, 2007 11:37 PM  | Hide replies

Give them a hand atleast they r not overated like our cricket players who have individual brilliance and collective absurdity. The problem with our hockey is chopping of players and only KPS GILL is responsible for this state of sorry affairs. We cant win any major tournament without proper grooming in fitness ,speed, counter planning to match the agility and speed of Aussies or the European style of play.We need to adapt to the speed, guile of the game immediately for that we need a team that will be groomed from right now till the next world cup without chopping the players.

Bravo, well said. I fully agree with you. Today we played quite good hockey, but our poor trapping and lack of finishing touches cost us dear. The result could have been in our favour but still our underpaid boys gave a good account of themselves. Keep it up. All you boys need is proper grooming. Gone are the days of individual skills, today's hockey is a team game. Aussies, Dutch, Germans, Spaniards, Pakis, Koreans, Pommies are as deft and skillful (if not better than our players). All our players need is a hard task master. Give them the same incentives as are given to our cricketers, and you'll see the result.hz2xk

The great KPS Gill. He first proved himself destroying militancy in Punjab. Then he destroyed the dignity of at least one woman co-worker by molesting her. Since then he has been systematically destroying Indian hockey, destroying player unity and team cohesiveness. Greg Chapel at least had a cricket background. What does Gill have that he should let his ego run amock as the proud traditions of the Indian team are ground to the dust?

And no! We will sack captains and coaches, change team composition, withdraw priority sport status - we will do everything we can think of except, except sack Mr Gill. I wonder why.

Having said all this, this has still been a commendable performance from a young team, and lets hope they are given a chance to grow into a strong team.

Gill should call it quits
by jyoti kanungo on May 11, 2007 11:04 PM  | Hide replies

We had the ignominy of losing to China during Gill's reign. Today, we r exulting over our win over China and Argentina whom we should have beaten by at least a dozen goals. Gill has been there for so long and we have been tired of hearing platitudes. Let the Govt ask him to go. We r dropping players over the hill, why we should keep an aging man at the helm who can not see, hear and only brags?

the turnaround has to start somewhere and this tournament is as good as any. we need to encourage our boys on a good performance here. they will hopefully do better with more exposure. and of course we can only reach greater heights if the crap management at the top is cleared out completely starting with kps gill.

The only remedy is to ensure that Buffon Gill is laid in rest.
India can then certainly aspire for olympic gold

Government should ban playing all international games for five years...be it Hockey, Cricket, Kabaddi and just focus on improving at home first. That may sounds like hard decision.....but that's what it boil down to

I agree with you on this . India should only be competing with the outside world on games like Kabaddi, Gilli danda etc . However if other countries pick up these games, we will get wallopped again and should switch to new village games invented in some obscure village in India. These corrupt good for nothing sports bodies have ruined every sport in India - Throw these incompetent idiots out of their coveted roles.
