Why are we cribbing....
by Nishant T on Jul 02, 2007 10:24 PM

We all agree on following:
1) She is the best women tennis player in India.
2) She is too ordinary a player at this moment to challenge the worlds Top.

The first one is good but not extraordinary achievement. The 2nd one is not her fault either.
All she can/and should do is to try to improve and play better. If she is not doing, then we are justified in criticising her. But we cannot and must not ask her to stop playing tennis..we have no right to do so.
As far as the adulation and modelling money she gets, its because therer is market for that. Of course there are multiple factors apart from just playing tennis what gets her that (like looks etc). But its perfectly alright earning money if you can (we are in capitalist society..where what sells, sells)..and she is doing by all legal means.

Now, if we think that she is not worth watching, lets get life and have something else. But watching her and criticising (read CRIBBING) is just pathetic/loser mentality. I for one do not have much expectations from her, and would rather watch other players. She is not representing India per say..but she is playing for herself (thats true of every player playing Wimbledon for exaple). As far as REDIFF giving glossy headlines (like STORMS and CRASHESH and all that crap..they just want more hits NOTHING MORE).

Not again!!!
by Abubakr on Jun 29, 2007 07:59 PM

Its the same old story....sania sailing smoothly in 2nd round and then crashing out...Its high time that she concentrates more on the game. What goes wrong everytime?? Agreed that winning and losing r a part of the game, but losing out everytime is something hard to digest.Instead of pubbing around, and hogging the limelight she should focus more on the game now...

RE: Sania crashes out of Wimbledon singles

Another example of how endorsements, media and multinational companies kill talent. Like many others Sania has fallen prey to the lure of money. Like our cricketers she will win tournaments that have no real importance and keep the masses happy.

Disappointing

I would be very happy and surprised if Sania crosses 30th rank in ATP ranking. She needs to improve a lot before appearing for advertisements of comodities.

Accent & attitude
by Vivek on Jun 29, 2007 01:10 PM  | Hide replies

By the way what has happened to her accent? She speaks so NRI or rather American types -- her accent was not the same few years back -- i think media darling & glamdoll model tag has been taken so seriuosly by her that she`s forgotten how to play good tennis!!
Her attitude suggests the same.

Its obvious to happen to a young and ammature like her. Its the fault of blind fans and media to hype such players before they perform upto international standards.

Sania...a joke on us all!!
by ram on Jun 29, 2007 11:50 AM  | Hide replies

Maan, dis lady's only acvmnt. is dat she is good looking and amongst a 100 billion Indians just about manages to play tennis well...think dat she knows dis better than anyone else.

She's just an average player, but the "glamdoll" image that she maintains helps to keep all the hype alive on her...so she's ends up as a regular in ads.,public functions, award nites, store inaugurals etc etc...

I think she should contemplate joining bollywood seriously and immly., mayb even she knows dat movies r d next logical step...anyways, she should make hay till d sun shines, as for us Indians and those abroad who keep going to watch her play and support...pls. do so only if she manages to get into d 3rd round ever!!!!!

Rediff, pls. do care to send a copy of all d msgs. posted on dis site on Sania to her...if she doesn't know her "worth" already, our msgs. will enlighten her about it...thnx.

SANIA THRASHED OUT OF WIMBLEDON
by Manoj Nair on Jun 29, 2007 11:31 AM  | Hide replies

Respected Rediff Team, "Sania Storms to 2nd round and Sania crashed out of second" hei this aint a news now, please find something new about tht girl and publish it, then u can get a good response on it. I strongly suggest something as following:-
(a) The Rediff team wait till she enters a third round of any of an international tournament(including grand slams), so that u wont be get criticised like this.
(b) Please use "Sania escaped into second round" and "Sania thrashed out from tournament in the second round" instead of ur present using terms (stormed into and crashed out off).
(c) Miss Mirza u need to do something good in international level please, so that all this so called supporters can hav a time of theirs. Until DRtht all u guys is gonna be disappointed.

Whatever her supporters say about this "Great Tennis Ace/Icon"? Mizz Mirza can be described in five simple sentences and that is :-
"SHE IS GOOD FOR NOTHING"

Mr.manoj Nair
u r again showing yr -ve attitude.
don't say like that"SHE IS GOOD FOR NOTHING"?
Whatever she has done so far have u done as an international level player of the game which u have not mentioned so far?
I agree she did not play to her full calliber this time against Nadia.
Seh made several unforced errors and double faulted too.
Since, I had watched her full match yesterday,so I can now say that she did her best but she could n't move due to her injuriy also.
she surely needs a lot of efforts in her serve, backhand and court coverage.
But using such language does not speak good of player of an international level if ever u were, which,I still want to know from u Nair saheb.
Use ggod and ve words like a ve player.
Sania is still the best ever tennis player India has seen.
OK>
bye bye and take care carefully but vely only MR.Manoj Nair and co.

Yeah Mr Siddiqi, first of all let me say tht, you taking things too personal, dont do tht, ok, and now abt the so called negative attitude, I aint negative and I aint like tht either, u better do onething, u take out tht yellow glass out from your eyes so that u see the whole world in its natural coulour- I know u got wht me said, aint u - and now about my views abt the so called 'the still best palyer India has seen'- yeah Mr Siddiqi, being a free born citizen, one having the rights to say or comment about anything and everything or nothing, but in a manner which is parleamentarian, and I am hundred percent sure that I aint breache that cor.
And I just didnt understand, wht u meant by using Mr Manoj Nair and co, lemme say, I aint with a co or I aint part of it and neither I do undermine people either, it is my personal view and i felt I am correct in tht, so I printed that, and I am sure tht I aint wrong( by seeing all this response from the people).
I think u aint check all these messages in rediff, you please do that, and then say I used any bad terms which is unparleamentarian. Thanks man and you better take care please. Mr Manoj Nair

RE:SANIA THRASHED OUT OF WIMBLEDON
by SHUJAT MIRZA on Jun 30, 2007 02:31 PM
saying Sania is bas or doesn'nt have potential to play at levels at which she is playing is a negative comment not on her but on the entire tennis fraternity in general and the qulifying and ranking system in particular. In my opinion she is presently probably the best women tennis player India has produced and currently 34th (if her current ranking is that) best women tennis player in the world. And that is it. Nothing more nothing less. If this appears sufficint reason for you to encourage, admire or appreciate her, do so. If you feel she is not up to your mark you have better choice of not watching her play and read other stories. You can still critisize it as there are millions of earthlings always finding flaws with others (Particularly other's heroes) while continuing to suck their thumbs. Goodluck, continue sucking.

Mr Shujat,
hei nice on reading your comment, but cnt be agreeing with ur views anyway, as u said, she is currently the 34th best player in the world, then she having a liability to produce results of tht level too, until and unless she aint do it, she aint be counted as the 34th best in world. As u know, History always stands and talk and praise those, those who win, and all it matters is wht one produce when it needed, and Miss Mirza lacking tht, And about watching her playing, that is totally a persons own choice, that wht he/she do, and nobody have a right to direct or advise him/her about wht he/she supposed to watch or view or talk about, as it is a federal right of a person being a free citizen, and u just cnt do nothing about it. About the earthlings comment, u better check tht comment and find who the better candidate, who deserving that comment, and at the same time sucking thumps is not tht bad, and ha, you have better options in that. I think ugot wht me said. Take care buddy. Thanx

Sania, honestly doesn't have the potential to compete with the world players. She can only storm into 2nd round because of weaker players in 1st round. She is playing some tennis, that's ok. For a country of Billion, she is the only one in tennis at world stage. That's her only achievement....life time achievement.

at least there is someone to put India on that level. Why dont u try and achieve that. If u cannot then stop critisizing. Sometimes some positive words do works. Try abd support a person who has reached at least at some level out of "a country of billion"
