Sania, work more talk less
by Kalarab Ray on Jun 29, 2007 06:54 AM

This is my only request to Sania, who has great potential to become a world-class tennis player.

Please do NOT get carried away by all the media attention and nonsense. Just keep on working hard at improving your game, perform AND make as little public statements as possible.

Sachin Tendulkar, in his 18 years of immensely successful international career so far, has rarely made press statements.

Best wishes,

and do us all a favor. I was following so closely and prayed all day that she wins but this is a crushing defeat. she needs to concentrate more on tennis than eating Biryani all day..

Sania

Sania's loss is not a shocker. Petrova is a top ranked player and Sania had little chance.

Many comments try to ridicule Sania. I admire her positive attitude and she takes the defeats in her stride.

We should ponder why we are unable to do any justice to one sixth the population that we have. Though we have individual records in cricket, we are even behind Sri Lanka and we have accepted that as inevitable. Our athletes are no hoppers in the world arena and are are just passengers. The best was PT Usha, but she also came short at the world events. Had internet been there, she would also have been mauled like Sania.

Do we have any strategy? Even countries like Malaysia, Thailand are ahead of us in Badminton and other sports. We just create hype and our cricketers are the highest paid, but rank about the bottom among regular test playing countries. In major tournaments, we have no hope in our traditional stronghold, hockey.

So it is pointless blaming Sania. She has come to this level by her own talent despite adverse reaction for non sports matters. To her credit, she keeps a positive attitude. Since we have nothing much to crow about she gets good publicity for her wins.

Let us face the reality. We do not have much sporting icons and our set up is pathetic to produce any in the future. The East Europeans have better physique and may be we have just to settle for chess. Sorry it may not give a kick but at least we have something to shout about.

You take pride in some one "taking defeat in stride"? Thats the whole problem of our Indian sportsmen - attitude! This stupid talk of "winning and losing is the part of the game" etc etc comes only from losers!

Mr. Bharat,

Please understand Sania is just part of our make up. You can't expect miracles from her.

Where are the modern Krishnans and Amritrajs? They just cannot compete with the professionals from other countries. We are just left far behind. can we expect a sea change in our attitude? We have this chalega attitude and whatever we can expect will be only through some individual talents.

Our national fabric is unprofessional in every field.

Shes nothing but queen of First Rounds.....in every tournament she storms into the second round naturally the first will be a smoother one. Comes back to Hyderabad and demands perks from the Govt of AP for representing AP in the internationl arena....nothing but a mere Queen of First Rounds...

She is not realizing yet
by ANIL SAMAL on Jun 29, 2007 05:44 AM

She is very proud, not at all rectifying her fault. One reason is she is in her young age and its obvious that at that age the behaviour is know little but feel like know everything.
She need to be modest. Frog always think he is the king of the well. But there is a big world out of well.

Sania's exit

Rediff knows only two words, "cruised into second round" and crashed out in the second round". In first round, Sania thrashes the opponent and in the second round she is thrashed! However, welldone Sania. Good luck for the future. You will have your time soon.
