YES as usual.. Both Sania and Leander Paes have access to international level facilities.

While what she has done is appreciable, the attention she gets in india is dispropotionate.. I bet the russian who won the match will be hardly known in Russia. What we need to do is to raise the bars. If Sania's losing is called acheivedment, what bench mark are we setting for our youngsters? Are we saying hey try playing tennis, lose in the first round of all grand slams and make all your money?

Dude you need to grow up and learn to appreciate things. Though it was the americans who landed first on the moon it was the russians who showed them the way with the first space expedition. Sania might never win a grand slam in her life but then she has showed way to millions of young aspirants.

sania's story is incredible with a bullshit facilities in india....that russian has never lost a final and she is ranked 6 in d world...why talk about russia...when u live in india..how many sports persons from India have made a mark in a global sport.....i mean cricket is not a global sport...but still we treat our cricketers as demi gods...in terms of female tennis from india..sania had nobody to look up to? till 3 years back she was ranked somewher around 800 and today she is 31 ranked..and after winning 2 doubles title consucetively she is ranked 26..Incredible.

In terms of achievement; sania has to her credit the fastest mover in terms of ranking from 800 to 31 in a single year..and this was achieved with our indian so called facilities...the only sports person from india who is now most popular in the world is sania and not even sachin..he is only known in the few commonwealth countries..sania we r proud 4 u!

Faceless Indian
RE:As usual..
by Faceless Indian on Jul 30, 2007 08:50 AM
Good one dude. You said it right. But in India the praise is all because of her spirit, glam quotient and her participation in major league events and trying her best.

Think about it - Madhu Sapre came third in Miss Universe and opened a floodgate for other Indian girls to go out and excel..... even dominate the world beauty scene for a decade or so.... ( Now whatever be the reasons, they won and they are in the history books - tomorrow no one will say that Indian girls won becoz cosmetics companies wanted to open up the market and hence made Indian girls win ).

Sania has indeed opened the floodgates in tennis. Go to any tennis park and you will see a thousand kids with tennis rackets in hand and pushed by their moms to be the next sania mirza. Soon the results will be there for all to see.Thats her contribution to Indian tennis.

And yes, like every other Indian sports fan, I too hope she raises the bar in her own performance and hopefully go faster, higher and stronger in her display against top ranked players.

One hundred per cent correct. She is doing what she could. Let us not at least degrade her if not supporting her. Nice words Faceless.

I don't think she uses the Indian facilities anyway. She is training is foreign countries with a foreign coach. So your statement is wrong. We should admit that she is good up so far, nothing more than that. She is over hyped and overrated. SHE WILL NEVER WIN A GRAND SLAM AND THAT"S THE END OF IT.

Shut up Deepak..your comments are coming more from a loser inside you..look at the positive aspects. Atleast she is repesenting at a very high level where we were not yet till now in Womens. It was Vijay amritraj, Krishnan etc who gave way for leander and bhupati etc..expect more from future..Sania has done more to he game and esp India..lets be positive..

If u r so concerned, support her in the monetory terms. Otherwise, just be mum, n let her do her best. No matter she wins r loses but at least she is giving it a very BIG TRY. Not like u to just comment on the one who is trying.
shame on us Indians who are trying to pull the legs.

till yesterday when she was winning she was talking about "mental strength" :-)) what a joke! Today when she lost she talks about "i guess we were both tired".

Oh really, what happened to your mental strength, baby?
Sania, when you can't walk it, don't talk! And don't try to give gyaan without knowing the meaning of what you are uttering.

As for you kaushik, the biggest losers are people like you. People who never achieve anything in their lives (never even probably came first in LKG) and who never miss a chance to celebrate what others call mediocrity since they can't differentiate between real success and mediocrity.

Unfortunately, because of people like you, the notion of "Trying" takes precedence over "Actually winning". This is probably the root of India's misfortune at not just sports, in specific, but also other spheres, in general.

You need killer instinct to be a world beater. Tiredness be damned... you'd show that you have a lion's heart by giving it all you have and NOT surrendering in 2 straight sets at 2 and 3! Sania is not even the best that the country has produced in Tennis and yes i don't give two hoots to the fact that she is a female. End of the day indian tennis achievement will be defined by the Davis Cup tie with France that India won with Leander (then very young) hanging in there and beating, I guess, Mats Wilander, in France. Our achievement will be defined by Lee-Hesh's heroics till such time that we have our own singles grand slam winner!

U R TOO GOOD AT ENGLISH. Try writing some articles to any of the dailies. U will be read (Read RED)But I guess, that will be called just "trying" and not "Acually Winning". B optimistic dear friend. She had played 3 big games in 5 days. Definitely it takes toll on one's physical and mental strength. Hope U understand and "try" to support her to "Actually WIN" some day.

Given the circumstances and opportunities in India, dont u think she deserves a better comment? hope u will learn to appreciate others efforts rather than criticising. Its easier said than done!!
