What is the comparison between Leon and Wimbledon. Wimbledon is tennis' premier most event while the equivalent in chess is perhaps Linares or Wijk aan zee. And Anand is no Federer. If you asked tennis experts who the greatest tennis player ever is; i'd bet 70% would say its federer. You ask chess experts who the greatest chess player in the history is; i reckon not more than 5% would say its anand. Rediff's reporting on sports is very unrepresentative.

4 times anand had choosed for oscar awards in chess. this is bcoz most of them had choosen anand for best chess player in the world. and u r saying not even 5%. improve ur statistics.
i agreed anand is not all time best player of the world. but one of the best player of world of all time. i prefer gr8s like kasparov and fischer over anand! but dont forget anand belongs to india. and india he didn't got as much scope as others got.
before anand it was impossible to think of even asian award in chess. anand have revolutioned chess in india.
we have 2 period in chess. "before anand" and "after anand"
before anand, india's position in chess was very similar to the current position of football in india.
chess is the game played in 150 countried , this is second to football

Pat Thakur, it is chootiyon log like you that deify our average sportspeople like sachin, sania etc. I will be the 1st one to admit that Anand is above them and is our best sportsman and ambassador ever. But Anand is no Federer and Leon is no wimbledon. You are dumb and cannot understand my message when i say that rediff reporting on sports is awful. Go learn some english you gawaar.

it is time to raise and praise vishy above our tendulkars, gangulys and dravids and kps gills and sharad power...keep it up and hope more n more teenagers would take chess than politicised soports like cricke, hockey etc..
