It's been way too long since India had a world beater #1 sports person. You were always a forerunner. Today you have done it. #1 might be just a number for you, but for a lot of people it's a lot of inspiration. For many other their prayers come true. Hope you have many more successes come your way. Anand is much bigger than all Tenduas, Gangus and Sewashes put together. As long as we foolish Indian will continue hero worshipping stupid cricketers, no other game will develop in India. Hats off to Anand who has come up in life on his own without any help from Indian Chess Federation. Tandua and Gangus should learn from Anand.

Fantastic News!. Our Vishy is new World No.1. The gloom set over the Country due to the debacle of Cricket Team India is totally cleared by this wonderful news. Let the whole nation give a standing ovation to this Man who did all of us proud. Maintaining wiining position in a game like Chess for so many years is unbelievable performance. how many of us have seen vishy on an advertisement... how many of us has seen anand opening a shop.... inaugarating a mall or doing press conference or walking on ramp..... this guy has been a thorough preofessional and devoted to his game.... Hearty Congrtulations to Anand. One who is so devoted to his game and absolute concentration. Being in the game for so long and so consistent it is only Anand who can do it. I remember when the tournament was held in Hyderabad , Mr Chandrababu Naidu (then Chief Minister) invited Anand for breakfast but he politely refused saying he need to concentrate on the day's game. Such his is quality, all those who criticize should imagine how much it takes be in the International circuit for so long. Manjula

People like him(Yusuf) r the real shame and problem for india. Realy "frogs in the well".
Had Ananad achieved this by beating Kasparov It would 've been fantastic ..He was routed by Kasparov. Moreover it could 've been well justified had Anand beat Kramnik.. Achieveing this without any Stalwart in fray is absolutely insipid..

Great fanaticism shown... We are making role models.So don't we have the privilege to do cricism?
My comments are not only for Anand but for all players irrespective of the game that they are playing. They need to keep one thing in mind that they are representing the largest democratic country in the world. They need increase their mettle .Winning or loosing does n't matter but you need to fight for a better show. I can remmeber many finals in which Annad surrendered meekely to Kasparov and so are our beloved hypocratic cricketers.
Once againg fight and light the spirit of game and country.

Anand is the best example for fighting spirit. I can remember many finals where Anand beat Kasparov. Try to change your attitude for critising someone when he has achieved the top position. It is due to his merit that Anand achieved the top spot.

Kasporov is one of the all time greats... No other person could ever challange his no 1 spot. But that does not mean that anand surrendered meekly to him. How many games between them have you watched. And get your facts right dear... though kasporov is not playing anymore ... kramanik is still there... and he is currently ranked third... behind Anand...

How many games did you watch between Anand and kasparov? Kasparov is much senior to Anand and was at the prime of his career when Anand played? Now Anand is at the prime of his career. Now Anand can beat him. Even Kasparov himself have said that now it's the time of youngsters like Anand and Topalov.

You got me wrong Arun... I was actually supporting Anand. I said that he is ahead of Kramanik and never surrendered meekly to kasporov. Its a great news that he is number 1 now. He deserves to be one. I was actually opposing Prakash
Kasporov has stopped playing, so its impossible to say what would have happened now. But its a fact that no one (anand, kramanik or anyone else) could challange his number 1 position for over 15 years. Kasporov was a symbol of complete dominance, well ahead of the rest of the pack. Lets accept that. And there is not much of a difference in the ages of anand and kasporov. BTW, I followed all the 17 games between anand and kasporov in world championship of 1995. I know that anand always fought hard, but sometimes kasporov was too smart for him...

I appreciate your support for Anand. Infact, we all should be proud of him.
But as a word of caution - never take away anything from Kasparov. I don't think any time would come like that of Kasparov-Karpov. They are the best brains of the chess who ruled almost for 30 years!!! Only parallel I see their rivalry is of great Ayrton Senna vs. Alain Prost!!!
Remember NO ONE can win all the matches! Yes, Anand has beaten Kasparov. That doesn't mean that he is always there for get beaten. As you said he is MUCH AHEAD of anyone!! (honestly)

Anand had beaten both Kasparov and Kramnik. If now they compete with each other for world championship then Anand can easily beat both of them.Use your criticism for the stupid cricket players who are lions at home and cats at abroad.
This is my sincere request to all Indians that we should take a cue from Anand's performance and support and cheer for other sports and players. Esp after cricket debacle we should now concentrate to encourage other sport personnel so that they can bring glory to India.
