Very Many congratulations to Vishwanathan Anand for being declared as World Number 1 in Chess. All Indians are proud of you for your suplerlative achievement which should be emulated by all other Indian sportspersons in their field of sport.
RE:Congratulations to Vishwanathan Anand

Certainly the best Indian Sportsperson Ever ! With due regards to Sachin (can't forget his sharjah 140 and 132), Chess was never in the limelight in India. And Anand's crusade started in the soviet-ruled-chess era and when Anand had no access to the Botvinnik chess schools (where Kasparov etc studied). He has towered above all of those and more for so long now and he was rightfully the world no. 1 (holds the highest number of chess oscars, voted by the media!). But more importantly, he has truly been a role model in the way he conducts himself on and off the board. He is truly the greatest Indian ambassador standing for the cherished Indian values (which can rarely, if ever, be met by anyone else). Hearty Congratulations, Mr. Anand. We are indeed very proud of you.
There's nothing else we would like to hear than you becoming the World Champ! So please work on it... congrads and all the best. And the thing is, you can do it, so easily!
its great to see another indian being on top of another field in the world. vishwanathan anand has done himself and the country proud by being the first indian to be crowned world no. 1 in chess. my whole hearted congratulations to u and may u have even more success in the coming years. all the best. satyan israni
A country of 1100 million is having only 11 grandmasters !!! Shameful.
Forget comparison with Russia or USA, tiny Serbia, Isreal, Netharlands, Croatia, Sweden have MORE grandmasters than India. These countries have a population LESS THAN DELHI !
cONCLUSION - Viswanathan Anand is doing well, India is NOT. Hope we stop jumping like monkeys and while wishing Viswanathan Anand the very congratulation not forget that we are not superpowers in chess (or any other sport).
Once again congratulations viswanathan anand despite pathetic state of Indian chess you made it.

Hi,
So what if India is not in the Top 10 in chess or Top 100 in some other sport? We need to worry more about whether we are number one in economic growth, number one in
(1) Economic growth (2) Poverty alleviation (3) Quality of living (3) All-round progress
RE:Before we get Euphoric some FACTS on status of Indian chess in the world
by Osho on Apr 02, 2007 12:06 PM
Venkat..unfortunately we aren't top in those categories as well. Economic Growth - Yes we are but not on top poverty alleviation - no way. the economic growth is not proportional to the poverty alleviation. hence we are not on top. China is doing better than us. Quality of living - worst possible in the world. All round progress - its almost round, zero. Sports should be one of the factor in all round progress.. look at the %ages for your above parameter where we are doing well..

>> Forget comparison with Russia or USA, tiny >> Serbia, Isreal, Netharlands, Croatia, Sweden >> have MORE grandmasters than India. These >> countries have a population LESS THAN DELHI !
You are another dumb idiot which proves it!!
Population of USA - 300,000,000 Population of Russia - 150,000,000 Population of Delhi - 14,000,000 (approx by end of 2006)
Who is more population?? Stop your nonsensical analysis.
Coming to your another point - India is not doing good right in Chess right? Do a simple math:
a) Take all (I mean all, whoever plays in any level) the cricket players in India.
b) Take all the chess players in India.
Now make an analysis for the percentage wins accordingly. You can see definitely small Chess has more success value - which mean India is doing good in Chess!!!
But as a word against complacency - much needs to me done in the Chess (but the movement has already been started in the states like Andhra Pradhesh & Tamil Nadu).

yeah...to improve, we should bring reservation in Chess .... 250% for OBCs and 330% for SCs 220% for STa
He has left the country for personal pleasures. He has become one more pathetic Indian who does not want to live in India. We should not care if he becomes no.1 in world. Dont associate him with India. I congratulate him for his personal achievement.

Re: mesg by Indian Stupid first change your name (do no call Indian) you are sick . Anand moved to spain only for Professional reasons only for the love of the game ( Not stayed back in india to be pampered by the media, the ads and drool in luxury). His perseverance has made India proud (media or no media ,politicians or no politicians, fans or no fans ,he has achieved for what he has worked for)
RE:He is no more an Indian

Manjula, To me he looks like a person who does not wish to be Indian. I can never imagine an true Indian would ever want to live his life outside of India.
I can't belive that you people are trying to defend a person with such stupid reason(distance, etc) in this modern world.

If you step out brother, you will find the world is too competitive. The kind of job you and I have will never need the kind of resources professional sportsmen need. True Indian can live outside for sometime, can't he? Where does it say that he's left India for good?
RE:He is no more an Indian

I bet "Indian" you would run first if (if at all to you?) offered an job abroad.
You do not know how to define an Indian. Going by your own reasoning staying away from Inda in this modern world does not deny being an Indian. Were not the whole India & the PMs & other Politicians saying wah wahs to Kalpana Chawla ( who was holding the AMerican Flag)

Kutta,
Stop your stupid ranting which is senseless! Take the example of Valentino Rossi:-
Valentino Rossi stays in London, not in Italy!! (still he is the most popular sportsman of Italy & last year he was awarded a honorary PhD by an Italian Univ at his age of 27 yrs!!).
One need not to stay in the country (even I don't but currently on a vacation in our motherland) - if you have the Fire in the Belly you can do it from anywhere for his/her country (that's we are proud of my brand IIT!!)

Your name must be written in an indian language in your visiting card. but no indian visitor will be able to meet you. your mind is too narrow to accomodate fellow countrymen.
RE:He is no more an Indian

Manjula you look like opportunistic to me. If he is winning than he is very much an Indian for you. You will not mind if India hires people from other countries to get No.1 position or Gold medal for you.

Shame , You can never know to appreciate nor differentiate. It's a time waste with people like You.

call anand a non indian. He just shifted his residence to spain to be able to concentrate better on his game. But he always plays with indian flag on his side. He is registered as an indian player, and is a citizen of india.

Manjula, I agree with you. Mr. Kutta, while replying above, at 12.47, forgotton that he is using or interested in foreign invented facilities and just replying like some politicians. (kuch netha garibo ko sambhodidh kartha hai ki "we are Indians, we should speak & write in Hindi and not in English", followed by cocktail - johnywalker black & black dog). Manjula, do not mind.

Right Chandran. They make others also sick by their attitude .India is full of bigots, Look how everybody backed Kalpana Chawla (though she had any American citizenship and waving the American on that fateful day)

Wow!! There are lot on "Indian"s in rediff website. I am the original Indian who posted the first message.
I bet that Anand will not return to India even after retiring from Chess. Lets wait and watch whether he is true Indian.

Hi...you bloody fellow.... there were many indian leaders who went abroad and made India proud...Haven't you heard of Gandhi statues in South Africa...has he not returned back to India??? There may be many personal reasons for a guy to be out of his country....Don't fool around...ok

We Indians are like crabs in a basket, which does not require a lid !!! coz the moment one crab tries to come out, the others cling on to its leg and pull it down ... same with people like %uFFFDdian"who say that V Anand is not an Indian. Look at Anand's achievement .. he should be publicly felicitated by the PM/President of India .. anyways, Anand would be least bothered for any such comments from silly people like %uFFFDdian".. now , India would need him more rather than him needing India ..

Most of the International tournaments are held in Europe. If he stay in his home it will be difficult for his preparation and travel. First you try to understand the reality and then criticise.

but Bobby Fischer stayed in the USA.......and it is much farther from Europe than India is !
RE:He is no more an Indian

Is there any Asian player now in top 10 or top 20? Did Anand ever change his nationality? Fischer played chess in the early1970%u2019s. Time has changed and now there are lots of tournaments. Do you want Anand to stay in India and remain outside the top 50 rankings?
RE:He is no more an Indian
by honestindian on Apr 02, 2007 03:43 PM
I disagree with India taking credit for Sunita Williams and every move she makes. Her Achievments have nothing to do with India. People who have made it big by growing up and battling out here deserve all the credit we shower on them as proud Indians. Anand is no doubt one of them.
So mister, yo must eat your words. And/or grow up. The link that led to this page said "congratulate" not whine over your own failures. Unless you have a good answer to "what good have I done for this country", you shouldn't bring down people who have.

Dear sir, Convey my & our family'a CONGRATULATINS to Anand and lot of thanks to AICF.
