Congrats!!! Mr.Anand. Keep up the good show. The chess was after all invented in Bharat and it is only appropriate that someone from this country become no.1 in the game. I wish there are more young people to take up this game and continue reaching to the top.

However, when one goes through the whole list, only one Indian name can be seen. We need to have more people taking to the game and make to the list.

This all depends on how you market the game. The best marketing is seen as that of Cricket team. If we get money, we can have this as well..

ravi kateri & engineer good,
Neither Samunder guy nor people like you help anything positive to our country with such a pathetic mentality.
First of all, stop dividing India naming - North/South. I am from Andhra Pradesh, I did have good time in the West Bengal for 4yrs at KGP by mixing up with all kinds of students (represent many states in India). Believe me, when we talk in Unity we will win, else we will loose like a bunch of Morons!!!

Winning gold medals or becoming no.1 in a sport is a wonderful achievement.. but what is there for "Indian" to be proud of? Are these achievements a result of a system? NO. They are individual victories and they are entitled to their glory.
Stop basking in reflected glory. If you want something to celebrate, then go ahead and achieve something.
And as far as India being a country, what does north share with the south of india? Not a common history, not a common culture, language... india is a mistake. How many north indians learn about southern history? Get real guys.... India is a cobbled up nation. Does the common man in southern india care what happens to kashmir or arunachal pradesh?
I would really like India to be split into smaller countries and each charting their own destiny. And before the irate mob go up in arms with slogans like unity is power. I am not suggesting that we should not stay united. I am only suggesting that we should be independant.

Dear Sukhoi
I am from Andhra Pradesh and I have a goodtime in London as well.. that does not make London worthy to be part of Andhra Pradesh!
Independence is not about hatred. Independence is about having the power to chart own course through the future. Why should West Bengal's destiny be linked to Andhra Pradesh or vice versa?
UK has multiple countries.. yes you read it right, countries!! Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guersney, Gibraltar are all countries that form the United Kingdom.

Srikrishna,
Maybe London is not worthy to be part for AP. You are totally looking in a wrong way! My point was any individual can contribute to his/her nation by residing anywhere, if & only if that individual has that good intension (less selfish & greed)!!
Example, look at our NRI community (am a part of them too). We do contribute a lots by staying outside India. And biggest example is, China!! 40% of the mainland China investments has come from Non Resident Chinese!!! That's value WE SHOULD give to our motherland.
I didn't link up West Bengal with Andhra Pradesh. I was talking about my life at IIT-KGP in WB. I learnt & gained a lots because of the brand IIT!! So am in a better position (more contribution to India as pumping $$ into India!!). Hope you understood now.

Sukhoi
The point I am making is different. The point is Andhra Pradesh should be a country by itself..India is just a cobbled up nation... not a nation because of shared identity.
Investment is based on Return on Investment (RoI) and not based on nationality.
Stop sitting on a high horse... motherland is a slogan for politicking. Do you really think Vodafone came to India because their CEO is an indian alumni? Vodafone came to india because its a good investment opportunity.

Hey, come on! Why can't South Indians be proud? If there Mahendra Singh Dhoni plays well and is a gentleman off the field, the person from his native village/town would be justifiably proud and say that he has known him as a child. Does not make the person closer to Dhoni than others and does not mean that others are not proud of him. Being proud as a South Indian does not mean any animosity towards a community/rergion/nation. In fact, it reflects the diversity that we should be happy about. I am Tamil but I am very happy as an Indian and especially happy thinking that there is a sphere where people from my region are contributing well to the nation's pride.

I fully agree with the concept that we should desist from mentioning 'South Indian', 'East Indian', etc. This is one of the reasons why we Indians are known to as having parochial mentality.
I wish him more and more success in his career and personal life(since Chess game is individual). Anand has made India proud by becoming No 1. He became No 1 because he did not crave for wealth or gave ads like other sports. he plays chess as Indian (registered nationality as indian). Anand is true Indian. And no body need to give him certificate or natioanlaity to him.
There's nothing else we would like to hear than you becoming the World Champ! So please work on it... and all the best. And the thing is, you can do it, so easily! We all want this from you ...and this is the best gift you can give us. (If you need help, just ask me!)
