Sania mania is fading
by Laxman on May 31, 2006 01:21 AM

Indian tendency is too give too much recoginition for small achievement. Same has flattered Sania. Lot of advertisement, interaction with glamour world has made her move a little away from tennis. She needs to rightly balance between personal life and professional life.

Hype
by Gokul on May 30, 2006 11:39 PM

too much of hype is good for nothing. if one had been reading her columns in the newspapers, sania is never ready to admit her mistakes.

she didnt do anything exceptional for india in fed cup too. Hail someone like like leander who has been doing it for india in davis cup for 15 years.

Stop all the buzz and hype around her.

Welcome back to earth from your dream world sania

Not her favorite Surface...
by indiatennisaficionado on May 30, 2006 11:24 PM

Obviously none of the posts above follow tennis and realize Clay is not Sania's favorite surface... (read many tennis stars who got hammered on clay)

As for getting caught with media coverage, for the record she's no Kournikova (she's already won a WTA Title)... and you need to appreciate and encourage someone who's putting India on the international tennis map and inspiring a generation.

And why can only cricketers make all the money without showing results, with their fat paychecks?

If can't learn to believe Indian sports persons who are not cricketers, introspect before you dole out free advice...

Don't be another Kournikova
by ramprasad on May 30, 2006 11:13 PM

Hope Sania will not become another Kournikova. With all the adulation, media attention and incentives of all sorts, its easy to go off-track.

Tennis is not an easy game!!!
by Mohan on May 30, 2006 10:19 PM

Tennis is not an easy game and even to qualify for a grandslam is not a joke..sania is still learning and losing to the french champion 2004 is not at all bad.

All the guys who are bad mouthing sania mirza at this momentand are talking about her game being down because of advertisement is utter rubbish as they do not understand how tough is to excel in a sport like tennis...we have our boppanas.amrit raj, shikha and co not even qualifying

Sachin is being payed a bomb inspite of performing so poorly ...but still people feel its okay to have cricketers endorsing products.....

I mean if a Sachin tendulkar has a lean patch then it is part of the game and not because of advertisement but if sania mirza looses a match it is because of advertisement...how hypocritic we are!!!

Crazy Indians!
by Madhab Deb Barma on May 30, 2006 08:59 PM

It was all the sign of a billion-plus population country, having no role model to cherish for. So whosever does a little bit in sports, business (IT & BPO), or entertainment, that person is so much praised and taken to sky by media, "intellectuals", politicians and common public, that they lose sight of their main bigger goals and get involved in money making deals and publicity stunts--like appearing in lots of commercials, making guest appearances in all sorts of functions, promos etc. Don't blame Sania for all her recent failures. Who won't lose sight after getting so much money and adulation with so little success! Its the bigger society in which we live in today, is to be blamed. As for Sania, she better concentrate on her tennis and try to achieve something , otherwise it will be too late for her to get any medal at all in any tournament.

Sania mania
by prathap v p on May 30, 2006 08:38 PM

I am sure Sania career was spoiled by media. She would have been a great player had our media allowed her to play. With so many channels she was spending most of her time in the sudios and with media instead of in the court. Just like our ne cricket stars like Dhoni and irfan pathan. They will also meed the same fate of sania. I request media to allow them to play instead they bringing them to unnecessary contraversies.

BE YOURSELF
by Eshwar on May 30, 2006 08:34 PM

Hello,

Like many other sports persons of our country, sania is a victim of over publicity, because of which our players tend to get carried away. My advice is to be yourself and start doing things differently.

Eshwar
