Usha declines last minute invitation
by Gireesh on Jun 10, 2004 03:05 PM

Its high time that politicians should be removed from all such important positions related to sports etc. Because they always have that "big brother" policy and on many occasions that is the reason India stands last in the list. Its Mr.Kalmadi's complex, P.T. Usha made somany records and brought goodname to India, now this is the occasion he gets to insult her. Milkasingh, P.T.Usha and all other sportsmen are our pride, and one can not question their capacity and fame.

Shameful

Who is this Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee and all.. What have they done for Athletics? Aamir Khan at least made a movie, if not abt Athletics, something related to cricket. What right do they have at least to touch the historic, precious, olympic torch? The excuse is they have selected people living only in Delhi and surroundings.!!! Such a lame excuse..! R u sure that all these 105 are living only in New Delhi? I'm not asking to omit film stars, but when it is something related to sports, the first preference would have given to sports personalities only, irrespecctive of whichever part of the country they r living.. It is not that u don't know these things, but the fact is that u don't want to know.

sports governing body has gone to dogs

It only shows that "sports governing body of India" gives more important to its non playing officials rather than real player champions. Shame on you Mr. Kalmadi.

Shame on my country. This is the worst example of how much athletics is neglected in our country.. Now it is only film stars and cricketers, who can do magic... I had this expectation from politicians only, now Mr. Suresh Kalmadi and Mr. Sunil Dutt, u people could only add up to the shame.. I wonder how an airforce pilot could do this... Forget abt film stars, after all nothing better can expect from Sunil Dutt.. The blood in him makes him do all these.. But Mr. Kalmadi, shame on u... U were supposed to work for the bringing up of Athletics in our country. After all cricket is not the only sport, which we inherited from our invaders, in the world. Come on get up, open ur eyes, and see what is going on in this world.. It is not only bollywood movies, and cricket. It is an insult to our beloved P T Usha, who perhaps never going to get another chance in this life time for such an auspicious event, who brought glory to our country, of course the new generation will ask who is P T Uha..!? But don't worry Usha, v r with u.. After all these fakes cannot understand ur pain. Have they ever participated in a single race at least in their school days..!?? No,none of them.

Olympic torch relay in India
by Amrita pillai on Jun 10, 2004 02:27 PM

It is a national shame that for an important event like Olympic torch relay eminent sportspersonalities like Usha , Amritrajs , krishnans ,and others were left out. It is all the more discouraging to know that people like Bipasha Basu are invited to participate in the event.

Whoever involved in such an exercise owes an apology to the nation and an assurance that such thing will not be repeated. we boast a country of one billion and it's not surprising that we donot have many world standard sportspersons. If such tratment is meted out even established sportspersons then one can only sympathise with our sports men that they can never expect fairplay from our system.

We are a cuntry of one sport like cricket, which is not yet played in olympics, and criketeers are given preference even in olympic torch relay which will happen in a country like India only

This has come to an end. Do our sports administrators notlike the faces of our sportsmen so that they have resort to bipasha, aishwarya etc. Will our sunil dutt stand up?

Olympic flame-PT Usha's omission
by IYLN Murthy on Jun 10, 2004 02:05 PM

This is nothing new. We know very well how to ill treat our sports personnel. Film stars inclusion in torch bearing adding salt to injury. They have absolutely no business in this area. Let the concerned authorities learn how to treat our yester years star sports personeel with more dignity and decorum. Shri Sunil Duttji please set right the house enough is enough.

PT USHA & her ilk
by Vinod Sailes on Jun 10, 2004 01:56 PM

Dear friend :

It is heartening to note the discretionary disapproval
of P.T.Usha.

We do understandl her discretions. For the moment
I should only say " she needs to go with the time "
and not sulk for matters of her own thinking.

Any way it is her will and we shall surely appreciate
her decision.

What a reason...
by Ranga on Jun 10, 2004 01:55 PM  | Hide replies

"Besides, she is married now and cannot travel alone". This is ludicrous. The guy might as well say that she is not allowed to come out of the kitchen in their home, so there is no way she can go to Delhi. And no offence, but with the dames from Bollywood running, I would guess Mrs. Usha will not be the target of any cat calls or eve teasing episode.
Anyway, all this belly-aching is sick. It is not like all these guys have some olympic medals in their homes to show off. They are all a bunch of losers who got to see nice cities of the world as part of the "Olympics campaign".

Hi Ranga,

Your reasons on this issue are pathetic. Look what cheap words and description you have used for a sportsman who rose to the international level, from almost nothing, to bring some pride to the deprived Indians and India.

Now you are in a modern life, with all fascilities, but that time, P T Usha, wouldn't have had a proper track to run, with the fact that right to proper living for a girl at the first place was not available.

You should bask in the shame of what you have said. C'mon, bring pride to India once, and then imagine the pleasure when people bark like this to your achievements and try to underplay you.

Usha's Omission.
by O. M. Antony on Jun 10, 2004 01:50 PM

It can be said as a negligence from the authorities. Why do the concerned department wait till the last moment for inviting a sport personel like P. T. Usha. The authority should apologise for this mistake.

Olympic torch relay
by Sunil Kapoor on Jun 10, 2004 01:45 PM

It is very sad to note that P.T Usha has not been invited for such an important militants. I can not understand the psyche of Indian organizers who rush to Bollywood and ask actors to participate in such events and make tamasha of the whole thing. This is a sporting event and should be open for sportsmen and sportswomen only..period
