How about some more news on Athletics?
by Mitzy on Sep 08, 2004 01:50 PM

All media wants to boost are money-spinner commercial games... no one bothers about the basis of all games... if you are not a good athlete, you cant play a good game in any sport.
True, its a poor sport, since those who go in for Athletics are not in a position to join fancy Clubs & play individual games like Tennis....nor have godfathers to sponsor them. At least the media can give them a boost!

If India is to improve on its overall performance, some encouragement from the media would go a long way
CHildren show more improvement in their performance, once they see that they are written about or see a picture of themselves... they too would like to be appreciated

Please add a small section on the athletics in & around the major cities, at least.... that is, if you wish to promote sports at grass-roots level!

it's really shameful to know that we think what we should have done before the most importnat thing to be noticed in the athens is that our sportsmen are no where near to other countries they have no spirit to win .there goal was to enjoy going to athens and not wining laurels for the country...it is high time government spends usless money for this type of sportsman rather do some beeter use of the funds.the first thing being self disciplined which ti totally ni with indain sporstman...it is hurting to part of the nation without any medal.

Indians should do more sports
by Chinese on Sep 03, 2004 02:39 AM

As a Chinese studying in Canada, My impression is that Indian students and profs don't like sports. Every time I walk into the gym all I can see are Chinese students and white students. what kind of sports do you indian people like besides hockey? I think indians should do more sports during your daily life and don't stay in the lab for 24 hours.

School Children

Yea, they should start sending school childrens to China. As the say the training should start early.

Its not just about winning medals, but producing quality athletes. For which you need the infrastructure.

Sports in india
by jayakrishnan on Sep 02, 2004 04:31 PM

Hi

sports in india is not given the priority that it needs, and not to forget the corruption. When ever someone says i am a sportsperson ppl dont give much attention to him, but when he says that he/she is working is infosys or wipro they start praising them, this has to change, sports should become an integral part of our life, We have the money what we need is proper minds who will take up the challedge and set up good facility right here in india, provide good training by improving training standards, talent wise we r good no doubt abt that, its the metal attitude that matters, the will to fight it out, as they say "When going get tough the tough get going"

and i dont aggree with this thing of sending ppl abrod for training, how long are we going to do that, we can get help from US or other countries to set up better training facility and improve our training standards

regards
jayakrishnan

we have the potentail
by Dhirendra Dubey on Sep 02, 2004 11:31 AM

india, a country with full of potential but i am extremely sorry to say that unfortunately we are not utilising it to the full extent. i don't known what is wrong with the indain government.

i can't understand why our government/ the persons engaged in this ie. management panel, officers, and all, why they are not taking keen interest in this subject, why our indian sportsmen coming back with just a single medal, is this we are capable of?

if we have to change our status in future olympics, then we have to take some action on it, i will not tell what action to be taken, because they know it better than me. please wake up, its enough now?

come on just show what we are, and what we can do, just go ahead and do something. if they can do it than why we can't.

I disagree with you Usha
by neeraj negi on Sep 01, 2004 11:23 PM

Dear PT Usha, in past I have been enthralled by your performance in track and have agreed with most of your suggestions. However, when you start splitting hairs I find myself strongly disagreeing with you.

Lets start with you - other Los Angles games, I don't you put up a decent show in any other olympics and in one of these, if I remember correctly, you were unfit. Injuries to athletes such as Manjit Kaur, is pretty common even amoung the top class athletes. Personally I am proud what indian quartlet did in Athens.

Training in China alone will not help; remember training camps of our boxers in Cuba. What we probably need is a great rewamp of our physical training methods. What sports policy makers take for sports facilities is the physical infrastructure - the brains part of it is missing. Let us be aware that our coaches trained in NIS are not good enough - also we have not been able to attract the best talent to coaching stream. Added to this the medical support that our sports men recieve is minimal - I have seen many good athletes dropping out of sports because of small knee or ankle injuries which are treatable in other parts of the world.
