It appears that you have already decided that he is guilty. Why do we need courts then if trial by media is sufficient? Why can't people like you leave the courts to do their jobs? It is not the media's job to try MJ Akbar or indeed anybody!
Rahul Gandhi was alleged of gang rape in the year 2006- Where were the Media and Aakar Patel. Nobody dared to ask a few pertinent questions- why the raped girl and her family members are still missing? Why the reporters who reported it are missing?
If somebody is showing, everybody would see. It does not matter whether is in top post or least post, it is human nature, men or women. Opposite poles attract. They enjoyed when he was seeing and after twenty years suddenly shouting from the roof top as if something is lost.

Do you hold a person guilty on the basis of accusation till he proves himself innocent? I don't think this could be law of land in any civilised country. A person can be accused for several right and greater number of wrong reasons. Try to put yourself in his shoes and you will be able to see a clearer picture. We cannot afford to have chaotic India. And if a person has to resign just on accusations then, then to give an extreme example to bring out the point, an enemy can throw an accusation at the general of the winning army to turn the table and convert imminent defeat into victory.

DO WE ALLOW "POWERFUL"PEOPLE TO GET AWAY WITH SEXUAL HARASSMENT? AN EDITOR IS THE MOST POWERFUL PERSON IN A NEWSPAPER/JOURNAL NEXT ONLY TO THE OWNER/S OF THE PUBLICATION

No. By your logic, first shoot them because they are powerful, then investigate and regret later if they are found to be innocent. In the meanwhile, by shooting such powerful people who are also (by implication people holding responsible positions) you have destabilised your administrative apparatus, all because of a complaint which could well be fake, made with an ulterior motive and what not. What a colossal societal harm. Look before you leap is an old proverb. You will do well to remember it. Hence, investigate and then shoot. Ask them to quit only if there is clear credibility in the complaint and there is also an apprehension of their influencing the investigation. Don't become vindictive out of inferiority complex against a person just because he is powerful and you are not.
